  1. Saw him not too long ago at a WNYC trubute to the jazz photographs of W. Eugene Smith. He played in a very interesting band with Teddy Charles, and was playing very well. So long, Mr. Katz. You'll be missed.
  2. Please know that we're all pulling for you. Here's hoping you feel better soon.
  3. Happy birthday! Now, go buy music.
  4. Happy Birthday, Paul! Go out and blow a lot of money on music.
  5. Bev is a man. His photo has been on this board--there was a thread where you were invited to post a photo of yourself. Sorry about that, Bev. :blush2:
  6. Nah, I'm not a girl. The only girl here that I know of is Bev. I don't think I know of another girl with the same jazz record collecting disease that we carry. Bev is truly awesome!
  7. Some really good suggestions here. Thanks guys. (It's the rare girl who has a large record collection. Wonder why that is?)
  8. What are you guys doing with LPs which you have replaced with CDs? Selling them? To whom? How are you doing this? Piecemeal on ebay? In one fell swoop to a collector/store? I'm not sure I'm up to putting all of my 1,000 or so records up on ebay; that seems awfully time consuming. What's the best way to get rid of your records in the quickest way for the most money? Thanks in advance.
  9. My Phillies put up a valiant fight, and were only one Matsui hamstring pull from sending it to a 7th game. But you have to hand it to the Yankees. They are an incredible team. Congratulations to all the Yankees fans out there.
  10. Wow! What a great story. Did he ever do a Webern, Ives or Barber recording in the end? How much do you regret not being able to do the sessions yourself? Or do you regret that?
  11. So it's Pettite on six days rest at home versus Martinez on the road on four days rest. An intriguing matchup. Of course, the Yankees are the favorites with their superior bullpen, but I've been following the Phillies all my life, and this is the best, most gutsy team we have ever had. Ever! I would never count them out. Nevertheless, if they do go down, I'll forever be grateful to them for what they've given me and their long-suffering fan base. Utley, Rollins, Howard, Werth, Victorino, Ruiz.... These are names that will be remembered forever in Phillie fandom. Last year, they'd given us the second World Championship in the 100+ year history of the Phillies, and this year has been another incredible thrill ride. Go Fightins!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  12. I know it's an uphill battle for the Fightins, and the Yankees are the "best team money can buy." But now that they are down and written off for dead, perhaps the Phillies will play a little looser, win tonight, regain the momentum, put some fear into the Yanks, and do some more damage in Game 6. I think Andy Pettite on three days rest (if that's how they decide to go) will be vulnerable and I think the Phils can also get to Gaudin. The Phillies are a very gutty team; who knows?
  13. I bought it today. Will let you know my impressions when I get'll it. Nu? Richter was a killer pianist. Very enjoyable playing. Glad you like. Hear it's flooding in Israel. That's bizarre.
  14. I always loved his stuff. I once curated an exhibit of his photos. He was such a nice guy, in addtion to being so obviously talented. Not a good day. First, we had to put one of our dogs to sleep, and now this.
  15. Phillies in 5. Go Fightins!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  16. Happy Birthday, Brownie. Thanks for all your terrific posts.
  17. Braxton set. Man, this is great.
  18. Interesting. Thanks for keeping the Horenstein flame burning. I'm listening to the Vox recording of Brahm's third right now. Just great. Horenstein's Nielsen Fifth and Mahler First (both on Nonesuch LP I think) were my fine introduction to those great works. Off topic, but I wanted to mention to you that I found the Voicu/Haas record you mentioned in another thread. You were right. Really great stuff. Thanks!
  19. I bought it today. Will let you know my impressions when I get'll it. Nu?
  20. Interesting. Thanks for keeping the Horenstein flame burning. I'm listening to the Vox recording of Brahm's third right now. Just great.
  21. 50 deserves a big celebration. I give you permission to buy a lot of music!!!!!
  22. I think they mislabeled that photo. It doesn't look like Bill Evans to me.
