  1. Thanks, Big Al!
  2. Domestic K2 releases from Fantasy. $9 each, including US shipping. PM me if interested. Thanks. SOLD Chet Baker -- Chet (Sealed) Thelonious Monk -- Brilliant Corners (Sealed) SOLD Benny Carter -- Jazz Giant (Open, but mint, with slipcase)
  3. I always thought the John Hicks performance was quite good, and the Joanne Brackeen, as mentioned above. Seems a shame that there was never a Tommy Flanagan Maybeck disc.
  4. I've got Roots on vinyl, a very clean promo copy, which sounds great, but I have still wanted to see this make it to CD. I think the combination of Witherspoon and Ben Webster is one of those great jazz pairings.
  5. OliverB Sounds like you may have already found it, but my copy of Little Band-Big Jazz was issued by P-Vine in 1998, distributed by BMG. Catalog #: PVCP-8740. 24bit remastered.
  6. So glad to see this title finally making its CD appearance. One of his best, with Ben Webster and Gerald Wilson. Roots
  7. Charles Mingus -- Passions of a Man: Complete Atlantic Recordings 1956-1961 (Rhino). Box, book, and discs are in spotless shape (even the shrinkwrap is still clinging somewhat tatteredly to the box). $50, domestic shipping included. Thanks!

    Tatum/Webster Quartet

Verve did an excellent 2CD collection called 20th Century Piano Genius. It's a collection of home recordings, before a small, attentive audience, done in Hollywood in 1950 and 1955. The sound is very good.
  10. I emailed Mosaic about a Tony Scott set several months ago. Mosaic emailed back saying they'd look into it. Not a firm commitment, but it's something.
  11. I placed an order for the Ayers and Nance discs with Mighty Quinn a week or so back, and I received this reply from Jerry @ MQ two days ago: Thank you for your continued support. This is the way I saw my very small business growing. Repeat customers will be the only way to keep things moving forward. I just wanted you to know your repeat business means alot. The new releases our scheduled for March 14th, I'll ship them as soon as they arrive. Peace, Jerry
  12. I'd like to see: Kenny Burrell -- Freedom as well as some that were already noted: Kenny Cox Chico Hamilton Trio
  13. Up, with changes.
  14. Yeah, that sounds like a possibility. I'm gonna have to search around for that. Any examples come to mind?
  15. Makes sense. Did he originate it with Milestones?
  16. I have to agree with impossible that Tim Sparks' Tzadik albums are great, and I'd recommend THE CIRCLE MAKER by the Bar Kokhba Sextet too. I'd also like to suggest the Bar Kokhba's live 3 disc set in the 50th Birthday series. Others from Tzadik I like: Masada Rock--guitar trio album with a fair amount of serious twang Jenny Schienman's albums Steven Bernstein -- Diaspora Hollywood
  17. I have two related questions, since I'm putting together a kind of playlist: What is that beat called that is driven by what sounds like a rimshot, ala Milestones, Jeannine, Alamode? Are there other examples of it that you can think of? Thanks
  18. Excellent stuff!! I like that original cover too.
  19. Agression is an incredible track.

I wondered this too. Does Berne have an arrangement with (or at least permission from) Hemphill's estate or his publisher? And if he does, why not do a CD?

Thanks for the link, John. This really is one that should be available on CD. I have an old Arista copy of this, and now it's downloaded to my iPod too.
