  1. I see Plectrist is available at Tower online. Don't know if you can get it shipped to Taiwan.
  2. I've picked up several of these too. Was Another Git Together issued on CD?
  3. Get it. An excellent set. I too had hunted down the individual vinyl albums (mostly in less than new condition) but was hoping Mosaic would put it together. Sounds terrific. I dig every one of the bases that Amy covers.
  4. Plain fun. With Johnny Hodges how can you lose? I'd listen to him play kazoo. Real good late-period Verve small-band swing, with lots of appearances by Ben Webster and Lawrence Brown. I bought this as soon as it came out, and play it lots.
  5. I've just been listening to this one in the last week or so. Excellent album. Neat that it kicks off with a Harrell composition called Asia Minor (a nod to Dizzy Reece?).
  6. I was gonna jump in with an Anderza endorsement when I saw this thread. A really good recording. I even like the little bit of harpsichord that turns up in it, as odd as it is ("Blues Baroque" sounds pretty cool!). Anderza has got a kind of pinched bluesy sound, derived I guess from Charlie Parker but by way of Ornette Coleman and Eric Dolphy. If you see the Anderza anywhere pick it up though it may be hard to find. It's one of a kind in its own way.
  7. One more VSOP recommendation to add to this list of very worthy titles: The Wright Approach by Dempsey Wright. It's got Wright on guitar with Richie Kamuca, Victor feldman, Ben Tucker, and Stan Levey. All arranged and produced by Bill Holman.
  8. Great news that this is finally making an appearance on CD. There was a thread regarding this and other concurrent releases: Here (scroll down to Jan. 15) Thanks for pulling out the vinyl freak column too!
  9. Thanks for the link, Claude. I guess I'm hoping that the Tony Scott reissue will be his 1958 Coral album, 52nd Street Scene. Wouldn't his Victor work make an excellent Mosaic project?
  10. Very glad to see Soul Sisters appearing. Lots of Grant Green on this. My vinyl is seriously worn. I'm also psyched about the Johnny Frigo and Tony Scott (though I don't know what Scott & Frigo albums these are) and curious about Kellaway's cello album which I've heard about. Mel Brown is a guitarist, I believe--any word on Chicken Fat (Must be Greasy)? Or The Golden Flute?
  11. Just saw this one go this weekend on ebay. Maybe it'll surface once again as a re-reissue from Japan.
  12. Thanks for calling attention to this one. It is available on CD from Fantasy, on a two-fer (with Soul Mist) called Blues Groove. I'm ordering one.
  13. I think Wahoo is one of Pearson's best, too. James Spaulding brings so much to that record, as he does to many of Pearson's sessions. (It's on its way, Underground.) I've also added a few more to my list above.
  14. All CDs below are for sale, domestic shipping included. Everything's in spotless shape (a few are still sealed). The imports all have obi strips. Paypal is best, but checks or M/Os are okay. 15. Yeah, I was looking for that "Coltrane" Deluxe too. The Harder They Come holds up real well--a sterling set of tunes. I'm liking the second disc as well, which is a kind of contemporaneous reggae grab-bag. Some familiar to me, some not.
  16. From the 2/3 off sale, I just received among other things the Tom Harrell Vanguard disc, and The Harder They Come deluxe 2cd edition (10.19 w/free shipping), which comes identical to the retail version, no BMG stuff on it.
  17. Oops! Ah yes, sorry about that...I should've checked your address first!
  18. BMG music club has The middle years Part 1 (36-38) 3CD set listed for 12.79. Here's the link (I'm not sure it'll work): Waller
  19. Hey jazzshrink, Thanks so much for providing that info. I was just about to re-post my query in the discography section. It's an excellent disc, well worth finding.
  20. Mosaic has the Koch reissue of Blues Bag listed as going out of print. Now's the time to pick it up.
  21. Just re-playing this Basie set this morning (it provides an excellent wake-up) and discovered something slightly odd, not very significant, but odd. Six of the octet tracks on disc two are remastered with HDCD. I once noticed this same kind of thing on a Dan Hicks comp (also from SONY), in which some tracks were HDCD and some not. Is HDCD, in addition to its arguable sound enhancement, used sometimes in digital transfer if the source (tape or otherwise) is damaged?

    Jazz In Paris

    Yes, this one's great!

I have a few dozen from this series. There are so many to recommend, but for now I'll second the endorsement for Kenny Clarke: Plays André Hodeir. I'd also like to mention the discs released by guitarists Henri Crolla and Elek Bascik. I believe there are two titles from each of them. Also, if you like accordion, get the Guy Viseur.
  24. I'm the guy who got the De Franco Mosaic set for $200--actually $202.50. I've been looking for this one for several years, having passed on it back when it was available. For a long time, the prices for this on ebay being what they were, I'd pretty much given up on the idea of getting it. When it would show up for auction, it generally went for about $350-400, which was beyond my range, but I'd keep bidding on them within my limits. These days it does seem that the prices for OOP Mosaics aren't quite so inflated; they're becoming more affordable (well, relatively!!). Recently, I've seen De Franco sets sell for $265 and $255, which is well below the prices I used to see for this, so when I got mine for $200 it seemed pretty reasonable. Who knows, the prices for this may continue to drop, particularly since these recordings are beginning to see reissue by such cheapo companies as Past Perfect. How long will it be before Proper gives it the "Proper" treatment?
