  1. Caiman's got Grass Roots listed here for a reasonable price: Grass Roots
  2. The sound is fine, and quite an improvement over the previous incarnation. Get it---the music is indispensable.
  3. Thanks for looking: My auction
  4. Brad, Yes, the box seems to have tracks that are not appearing on the individual reissues. There are eight "previously unreleased tracks" in the box, plus an additional four previously unissued introductions. By my count there are only four bonus tracks among these individual reissues. Four of the unreleased tracks in the box come from the Seven Steps sessions alone, so two tracks are clearly not making it to the individual release. An unreleased version of "Autumn Leaves" is not to be found on either of the Four & More/My Funny Valentine individual reissues. And I think there are three previously unissued tracks from the Antibes date (one of those tracks being an introduction), only one of which makes it to the individual reissue. I'm sure I'm leaving something out.

    Feb 15 RVGs

It might be that Basra is held up. The local indie shop I go to has all the new RVGs except Basra. Has anyone seen it?
  6. No booklet with mine either. Some of the titles in this series have booklets and some do not. I think the amount of readable matter (ie, liner notes) there is on the album determines whether they issue a booklet or not. What that amount is remains a well-guarded secret. B-)
  7. Richard Galliano? If so, yes, amazing musician. If not, I want to know more. Please. That's Dino Saluzzi! He's great. Check out Responsorium. (Galliano is great too!)
  8. This might be the first time that this is seeing an appearance on CD (from what I understand it's a live date with shaky sound): Universal UCCU 5285(Impulse)(New) Rollins,Sonny/There Will Never Be Another You 1995 Anyone know these titles?: Universal UCCU 3009(New) Sheldon,Jack/The Cool World of 2300 Universal UCCU 3010(New) Richards,Emil/New Time Element 2300 Universal UCCU 3004(New) Axidentals,The/With The Kai Winding Trombones 2300 Universal UCCU 3006(New) Gillespie,Dizzy/New Wave 2300
  9. Not exactly the same thing, but you can use a Paypal credit card that withdraws the money directly from your account.
  10. Up, with more things. Thanks to all!
  11. I can't recommend the Mental Cruelty soundtrack highly enough. I got it as a result of this thread a year ago and find it really haunting--fugue-like, as soundtracks can sometimes be, with their returning variations on a main theme. Some very good Barney Wilen and Klook.
  12. All CDs are spotless, with domestic shipping included. Imports include obis. Email me at alix1@comcast.net if you're interested. Thanks! 13. I second the Rod Levitt. I'll add Tony Scott, who I've already suggested to Mosaic (which got a favorable response from them). How about an RCA various artists box that would include artists like Hal McKusick and Jack Montrose and others?
  14. Yeah, three were on RCA. The fourth appeared on Riverside. It's called The Dynamic Sound Patterns of the Rod Levitt Orchestra, and it was reissued on CD by OJC in 2003. Very recommended. It's the only one of his LPs to make it to CD, as far as I know.
  15. Thanks, Bill. I must've been in a fog. I forgot all about Gemm, and haven't checked on Euclid in a dog's age.
  16. Thanks, Hoyt. I'm looking for the vinyl since I know they haven't made it to CD yet. I was hoping that perhaps a board member might have a line on them. Yes, they would make a great Mosaic Select--worth a message to the Mosaic suggestion box! In the meantime I'll keep haunting the usual places. That performance of Levitt's music in Vermont last night was in honor of his birthday, too. I understand that he's lived in Vermont for some time.
  17. Steve Schwartz, who I believe is a member here, did a terrific two-hour radio show on WGBH out of Boston in honor of Rod Levitt's 75th birthday last night. I was lucky enough to pick it up while driving from Manchester, NH out to western Massachusetts in the middle of some torrential rain showers, and it made what would have been a difficult ride into an utter pleasure. So now I really want to check out Levitt's RCA sides (I already have his Riverside CD). Anyone have any leads on where I could find Levitt's three RCA albums: Insight, Solid Ground, & 42nd Street?
  18. Hi m&s, Just sent a query re: Basie in Sweden and Jaws & Stitt at Birdland.
  19. Another plug for this band. Satellite Rides is an excellent album, with a pair of opening tunes that pack a terrific one-two punch . Other worthy albums: Fight Songs, Hitchhike to Rhome, and Too Far to Care.
  20. Yes, mine came Friday too. Excellent excellent stuff. #44.
  21. No details, but I think they might be radio broadcasts.
  22. I haven't heard the Ellingtons yet (but will soon B-) ) but I've noticed what you describe in a few other SONY reissues--namely, Dan Hicks' Most of the Hotlicks, and on the Count Basie 4-disc set. On each one, only certain tracks register as HDCD. In all cases, the complete song is HDCD, but it's only some of the tracks, and no mention of it anywhere in the production notes. I guess SONY's commitment to HDCD technology is a wee bit, uh, tentative.
  23. Definitely pick this up before it's gone. I remember being among the choir of those calling for its reissue--it just seemed like a perfect package. In addition: Barney Kessel plays on the date with Kenny Drew and Larry Bunker plays vibes on one of the dates with Sonny Clark. I dig this as much as the Prestige stuff.
