I picked up the Pure Genius: The Complete Atlantic Recordings (1952-1959) Ray Charles for $85 I have seen Newbury selling used copies for more. Figured it was not that bad of a deal. They did have some good jazz cds , i was surprised.

I ordered 11 titles for around $80 bucks ....not bad......you would think that all the ojcs i have purchased in the last 3-5 years i would have everything they put out ?
-
A few years back you could walk into a newbury comics and snag it for about $130 bucks

When is someone going to Reissue Sinatras Reprise catalog, there are a lot of titles now OOP and only available as imports. The above title is GREAT just for the Johnny Hodges solo on "Indian Summer" !
-
Dan, wait a minute, i think if Cleveland finishes first against Detroit then the Indians will probably have the best record which means they would play the Mariners because the west is the weaker division and the team from the west won't have the best or second best record. So the Sox would play the wild card ........and you know that the Cubs could NEVER beat the Sox ......not with Beckett and Hopefully a healthy Schill. My picks AL: Sox Indians Angels WC: Yankees NL: Braves Brewers Dodgers WC: Diamondbacks ALCS: Sox over Indians .....again NLCS: Braves over Dodgers World Series :.....Lets have a Pahwade !!!!!!

Wasn't it sweet to see them walk Papi and have Manny make them pay? That strategy worked over and over again last year but I thought it was the wrong move all along. Papi isn't hitting and looks out of sorts. Now was the time to go ahead and pitch to him, they probably could have gotten him out. But Manny - Oh Man(ny) - I am with you, he should have a huge year since he's playing for a contract and wants to play six more years overall (he's selling himself short if he just wants to reach 600 home runs, if he averages 30 he'll be at 670 in six years). And yes, he needs to run out of the box. I'll take the win but there were some annoying/scary things happening. Dice throwing all those pitches at the start; Drew a late scratch - thank heaven Brandon Moss had his best day as a major leaguer; Lugo came out of the game for some reason though I guess it could have been defensive since he had that back issue; and Papelbon probably had his worst non-losing performance of his career. He had me wondering if he was suffering from a migraine, since that was what was happening when he had that horrifying blown save against the Yanks last year. Now, if DirecTV will manage to keep the ESPN2 feed, I can actually see what happened on the re-broadcast at 2 pm. Dan ,on the news at noon on WBZ they had a story about Direct TV....i guess it was widespread. I have a friend in NH who couldn't get the game . In fact they even said Comcast had problems in SE mass. ?? I hope its on for everyone tomorrow !

Manny is going to have a MONSTER of a year , he is in the best shape of his career. He worked hard in the off season Just wish he would RUN after he hits the ball .......He stood there for what seemed like 5 minutes why didn't he just take out a camera and snap a picture??? It was a pretty good game , i got up at 5 to 6 .....tired .....do it again tomorrow,

AP Borders Book Stores May Be Sold Thursday March 20, 7:29 am ET By David Runk, Associated Press Writer Facing Cash Crunch, No. 2 Bookseller Borders Says It May Put Itself Up for Sale DETROIT (AP) -- Borders, the nation's second-largest bookseller, said Thursday it may put itself up for sale and has lined up $42.5 million in financing to help the chain continue operations. Borders has lost market share both to online companies and to Wal-Mart Stores Inc. Borders Group Inc. said the financing commitment comes from investment funds affiliated with Pershing Square Capital Management LP, a major shareholder, and includes an offer to buy Borders' international businesses. "We believe that consummation of the transactions under the commitment will make us fully funded for 2008, where absent these measures, liquidity issues may otherwise have arisen in the next few months," Borders CEO George Jones said in a statement. Borders said it is reviewing a wide range of possibilities, including the sale of only part of the company or certain divisions. After postponing its scheduled fourth-quarter earnings results Wednesday, the company reported net income of $64.7 million, or $1.10 a share, compared with a loss of $73.6 million, or $1.22, during the same period last year. Revenue fell 2 percent to $1.35 billion, from $1.37 billion. Analysts polled by Thomson Financial expected profits of $1.42 per share on sales of $1.37 billion. Quarterly results included a $7 million loss from the sale of Irish and British businesses for $13 million. In yet another sign of pressures on retailers nationwide, Borders suspended quarterly dividends, which it will plow into operations. Last March, Borders said it wouldn't provide future sales or earnings guidance during a restructuring, but it said it anticipated returning to earnings per share growth in 2008. On Thursday, Jones said that may take a longer than expected. "Overall, we believe that the 2009 financial targets we set back in March of last year remain attainable, yet within the current economic environment, we will be slowed in our progress," Jones said. The sales agreement for international businesses announced Thursday gives Borders the option until Jan. 15 to require Pershing Square to pay $125 million for the international business, which includes Borders' Paperchase, Australia, New Zealand and Singapore subsidiaries. But Borders said it must pursue the sale of those operations first before any deal with Pershing. "This will be a challenging year for retailers due to continued uncertainty in the economic environment," Jones said. "Looking forward to 2008 and beyond, the company determined that additional capital was required to execute our operating plan, and as a result we began to explore various financing options. "The current credit environment has made many of these alternatives prohibitively expensive or entirely unavailable." Borders group a year ago announced a restructuring that included a fresh face for its U.S. superstores and a jump back into online bookselling. Borders opened the first of its new concept stores last month near its headquarters, and has said its new Borders.com Web site was to make its debut shortly. Ann Arbor-based Borders said J.P. Morgan Securities Inc. and Merrill Lynch & Co. have been retained as the company's financial advisers to assist the company as it explores strategic alternatives. The company said it can give no assurances that a transaction of any kind will occur.

Good for the Players !!!!! Red Sox End Threatened Boycott Of Japan Trip! BOSTON -- The Boston Red Sox boycott of their final game in Florida and season-opener in Japan ended Wednesday when a pay dispute over compensation for their coaches was resolved. Wednesday's game started about one hour late. It is the last before the team leaves for Japan, where the Sox are scheduled to open their season on March 25 with two games against Oakland. Earlier in the day, the team had voted unanimously to boycott the game against the Toronto Blue Jays and their planned trip to Japan unless Major League Baseball agreed to compensate coaches for the season-opener overseas. "Everyone connected with the trip will be fairly compensated," baseball spokesman Rich Levin said. Team spokesman John Blake did not say how the dispute was resolved. The controversy started when manager Terry Francona found out that the teams' players and managers will be paid an extra $40,000 for the trip to the Far East, but the coaching staffs from both Boston and Oakland would not receive the appearance fee. Francona said that the coaching staffs of all previous MLB teams that made the trip to Japan were paid the same stipend as the players. "I did not have an off day yesterday. I had the phone glued to my ear because I was promised some answers, and I haven't even received a phone call," Francona said. "So I'm a little bit stuck. What I want to do this morning is get excited to play a baseball game and what I ended up doing is apologizing to the coaches and being humiliated." The Red Sox had refused to take the field at Wednesday's game, which was scheduled to begin at 12:07 p.m. The team did not take batting practice, but shortly before the game Coco Crisp and Dustin Pedroia stretched for a few minutes before returning to the clubhouse. The team eventually took the field at about 1:15 p.m. If the issue was not resolved by Wednesday night, Red Sox players said that they would not board the flight to Japan. Some fans said that they agree with the players for boycotting because the coaching staff deserves the same pay. "What's $40,000 for Major League Baseball, you know? I mean the coaches make a lot less than the players do," one fan said. "What is fair is fair." "If a promise was made, you should honor the promise. They obviously were expecting things, and it's respectable for the players to be looking out for the bullpen catches and looking out for what they were promised and what they are going to get. They do a great service to the team. They play an important role, I think," another fan said. -

I can vouch for that. Thanks. I'm looking at the Mosaic now. I don't know the answer to Paul's original question about the material on the Rex Stewart disc I ordered, I'm afraid. A cut from that Ellingtonians album was featured on the BBC program -- "Cherry," I believe. Sensational tune. The HRS does look inviting. EDIT: On order. Thanks so much for pointing this one out. Very excited! I need to pull the Trigger on the HRS set , it seems i have been eyeing this FOREVER !

The Borders i went into yesterday at the Atrium in Chestnut Hill had NOTHING in their jazz section. Which in the past was very healthy , i was very surprised to see how depleted it was!

Read this below about the Babe , he either got his superhuman power from the bourbon whiskey , the 18 hot dogs or gonorrhea . Babe Ruth’s extraordinary journey from a Catholic reform school in Baltimore to the storied confines of Yankee Stadium in the Bronx made him the idol of a nation. The ballplayer of ballplayers, Babe was also a man who indulged in earthly pleasures, as sportswriter H.G. Salsinger noted, “He could eat more, drink more, smoke more, swear more, and enjoy himself more than any contemporary.” A legendary gourmand, Babe was fond of drinking a quart mixture of bourbon whiskey and ginger ale at breakfast, before attacking a porterhouse steak garnished with half-a-dozen fried eggs and potatoes on the side. During an eating binge just prior to his collapse on a train ride in April 1925. Babe reportedly gorged himself on a dozen to eighteen hot dogs before blacking out, and a week later he was at St. Vincent’s Hospital in New York, undergoing surgery for an intestinal abscess. New York writers termed his illness “The Bellyache Heard Round the World,” but in recent years historians have speculated that Babe actually suffered from gonorrhea and not acute indigestion. -
