YES ....BUT the problem is after the next 4 against the Royals the SOX hit the road for another loooooooong trip. Seattle, Oakland and i think back to Baltimore. Who came up with this schedule ? it really seems that the Red Sox have had the hardest schedule so far in the Majors and they started in Japan. The Cubs have played the least road games.

Just ordered from Dustygroove: Johnny Pate - Outrageous

Bartolo Colon touched 97 in his first rehab start with Pawtucket, and after a lengthy rehab/shoulder strengthening regimen, Curt Schilling has started to throw. Seriously though, if Colon is anywhere near the velocity he had when he was winning his Cy Young, he will be the steal of the year. If Schilling pitches again, I'd put Beckett - Dice - Colon - Schilling - (Wake, Clay or Lester) up against anyone in either league. Schilling probably wont be ready till after all star game but they need to make decision on Colon by June 1. If he is healthy where do you put him in the rotation ?.....its not like pitching has been a problem for the Sox. Do they send Bucholz down ?

My dad passed away today...

Very sorry for your loss Jim ,my prayers and condolences are with you. -
Nothing you can do about that loss, i'm surprised Papelbon was mad . The Tigers barely hit the ball out of the infield , excuse me swing, error ,broken bat blooper....sometimes the breaks go the other way. As for Lugo he can be frustrating at short , but is Lowrie a really big upgrade defensively ? Lugo played well in the World Series and his hitting this year has not been bad and if the Sox make it to the WS again this year or even just the playoffs did that signing really hurt them ?

The Red Sox are 22-13 and the A's are 21-14 , i guess that japanese trip didn't hurt either team !!!

Same thing happened to me. -
Yes, another GREAT game tonight , Dan explain to me why they don't put someone on the DL., how bad is Ellsburys injury or Drews . They keep saying they have 2 guys on the bench(cash, lowrie) and didn't want to pinch run for Ortiz until he reached second ? JD s injury sounds the same as A-Rod ( maybe not as bad??) and now Coco s leg is hurting .....geeeez . Maybe they should put Casey on the DL and bring someone up that can run. All these guys are sitting on the bench and they cant play ?

Lester threw a gem tonight , pitchers duel against Halladay who pitched another complete game lost. Pedroia saved the game in the ninth with an unbelievable diving lunge to stab a line drive off the bat of Wells.
-
Dan, what did you think of Mastersons debut ?...pretty impressive . He reminds me of a Derek Lowe type BUT with more movement on his pitches. They keep talking about whether he is a reliever or starter ...but judging by yesterday he is a starter! They did say he will be called up late in the year to work out of the bullpen.

I received my CDs today !! thanks, John !!!!!! -
Damn ..the Red Sox throw out a depleted line up on Patriots day , Varitek is out sick, Manny has the day off, Sean Casey gets a rest and they still have a 8-0 lead in the sixth. Bad news for the Rangers Gabbard hurt his back slipping off the mound .....he left in the 3rd.

Take your pick .......which World Series was thrown ? This is what they say about Game 4 of 1918 WS : Game 4 had been tied, 2-2, in the eighth inning, when Cubs pitcher Shufflin' Phil Douglas gave up a single, followed by a passed ball, followed by an errant throw on a bunt attempt that allowed the winning run to score." This is some pretty serious information, and I wonder if anything will be made of it. This is what happened in game 6 of the 86 WS : The Sox took a 5-3 lead into the bottom of the tenth of game six. Reliever Calvin Schiraldi retired the first two Mets. One out ( One STRIKE!!!!!) separated Boston from its first title in 68 years. Gary Carter and Kevin Mitchell singled. Knight brought Carter home and Mitchell went to third. Up came Mookie Wilson. Reliever Bob Stanley's wild pitch allowed Mitchell to tie the game at five-all. Wilson ended it by sending a slow roller to first, a certain out -- until Bill Buckner let it squirt through his legs. Knight raced home with the winning run. This is some pretty serious information, and I wonder if anything will be made of it.

Charlton Heston has passed
zen archer replied to clifford_thornton's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
So weird last night without knowing he passed we were at a party and the talk was about The Omega Man. That final scene where he dies with his arms out, christ like in the water fountain. Back in the 70s they used to show that film on channel 38/56 here in Boston a lot, the Saturday afternoon movie. RIP CHUCK ! -
The Sox were right about Pedro ,after last season being out and now this . It doesn't look too smart having given him a 4 year deal.

Meanwhile the Red Sox had what I thought of as a "must-win" with Dice-K facing Joe Blanton in a rematch of opening day, before Rich Harden faces Jon Lester again today. That's going to be a tall order so I was glad that they managed the win last night with a stellar performance by Dice. Two hits over 6 2/3, 9 Ks and ZERO walks. Complete turn around from Opening Day, I am sure this was the game he hoped to have in front of the home fans last week. But that was definitely the Dice-K we are hoping to have all season. The one weird point was when Papelbon was called on for a four out save, with no off-day tomorrow. I mean, I thought of it as a must-win game but does this mean that Paps will be used more this season? At least he was back to his dominating self after nearly giving away the game in Tokyo. Dan, Great win for the Sox today , Lester looked strong and Papi finally showed up . The Bullpen looks Great ...its all about pitching. After all the travel, jet lag and whacked out schedule a 3-1 start is Fantastic.
