  1. Those are some great points.
  2. Hey gang -- joined the group during the "Diego Incident" and would like to stick around. Harkening back to my college days and the "Cs" I usually got in economics -- I recall the basic concept of supply and demand and how when supply was low prices were high. I know all bets are off when you are dealing with music and collectibles, but other than Lee Morgan's "Candy," I don't think I can recall seeing any of the "high-price blue notes" for a which another copy doesn't come up a few times a month -- Blue Train, Jutta Hipp, Undercurrent, the Hank Mobleys, etc. Same with the Prestiges -- even Saxophone Colossus (50th Street). So, what do you folks think are the truly rare, collectible records? With your permission, I would define these as good music, well recorded and hard to find. One I'd like to offer up is an original pressing of Telefunken Blues on Savoy. What's on your list? Regards, Brian
  3. Ken McIntyre (with Eric Dolphy) - Looking Ahead (New Jazz). One of my favorites.
  4. Dante: Hi. Here's relevant info with respect to my dealings with paypal: 1. I won three LPs and paid for all three via paypal -- one payment covering three items. 2. Almost immediately after auction, I was contacted by jazzguy43 and he gave me a "heads up" on Diego and his dealings with Diego. 3. Had decent amount of back and forth with Mr. Padovese before I did anything -- in true sucker fashion, I chose to continue to believe him for a while. 4. Found this website (which is great!) in my search on the auction -- the information here did not provide comfort that Diego was a trustworthy human being. 5. I initiated my claim on January 17, 2007 (so, a week earlier than yours). 6. I called numerous times to build up a calling record after initiating my claim (i.e., to establish that I was a "pain in the ass"). 7. I also emailed numerous times. I could never find a way to email additional info to paypal via the web page regarding my specific dispute, so I just sent them emails through their general "contact us" section and referenced my claim number. 8. In the various information I sent to paypal, I included links to the boards where numerous purchasers were complaining about Diego's auctions. Also continually noted in my conversation that I was aware that paypal hade received dozens of complaints relating to Diego. Everytime but once, they refused to acknowledge this was true -- one time the person I was talking to let it slip that paypal had numerous complaints regarding the guy. 9. Today they credited my account in the full amount and closed the dispute. So, you may be a week behind me if my dispute is any example of the applicable time line. If you haven't called them in a while, I would lob a call in just to get it on the record. Let me know if you need any more info.
  5. All: For what it's worth, all the $$$ I sent to the great (soon to be late?) Mr. Padovese was refunded to my account by paypal ($350 or so) today (Feb 12). I kept calling and emailing paypal and reciting their own buyer protection policies to them. Finally led somewhere. A lot of hassle. Just wish they had refunded my money in time so I could've bid on the great records Michel6627 (or whatever his name was before he departed the Ebay world) had. Looked like some great deals there too. Forever more careful, Brian
  6. Curtis Counce - Carl's Blues. Carl Perkins sounding great. On Contemporary label. Anyone ever heard Carl Perkin's DooTone LP? I have not. Was wondering how the music is and the recording quality.
  7. And yet, there he remains, an Ebay member, despite the high negative total and the complaints of numerous buyers to Ebay.
  8. I bought three boxes of records for $100 off of craigslist this weekend sight unseen. Price included the guy driving them to my house and dropping them off. Guy said that there was some jazz and instrumental stuff in there as well as classical. Price was about $0.20 per record so I figured I would simply pick up some interesting stuff to listen to and experiment with. You never know what you may like. The record covers were full of dust and the records themselves were almost always covered in brownish dirt and grime. As it turns out, a lot Walter Wanderly and Montovanni stype stuff was in there, along with a few Orpheum Jazzland reissues. But in the last pile, I found an original Sonny Criss, Go, Man! on Imperial. Used a VPI cleaner and it turned out to be unplayed -- the spindle hole still had vinyl residue in it and the record was shiny and unmarked. The cover had a couple of splits and a small tear on the front, but displays reall nicely. Record plays great. I was extremely happy.
  9. Hey gang. I am a long-time lurker on this site. It's great. I am also one of the misguided that participated in recordsforall's auction. Long-time ebay buyer. I've bought hundreds of pieces of vinyl on Ebay over the past 7 or so years and admittedly paid for an education along the way. Prior to this fiasco my only truly bad experiences on Ebay, other than overpaying for LPs, were receiving a few overgraded records and getting sucked into the occasional bidding frenzy. I saw recordsforall's feedback rating and the paypal buyer protection plan offered on the auctions and the relatively low-range prices and jumped in on a few records. I've been in touch with some of the other "winners" in the auction. Wanted to second some of the thoughts shared above. Paypal's inability to recover funds from recordsforall's account is separate and apart from their obligation to "insure" funds stolen in fraud. Their buyer protection program statement (on their site though not readily upfront) as of January 17, 2007 listed the qualifications for a transaction that would be covered. It is all geared into the status of the seller AT THE TIME THE AUCTION WAS LISTED and is based on the seller's feedback rating and certain other quantitative stuff. If buyer protection was available on recordsforall's items his auctions listings would say so -- and they did. Not a lot of wiggle room here for paypal. I knew Diego Padovese was going to send me a package o' crap in order to show paypal a mailing receipt as proof that he sent me the LPs. I, for one, had the package sent to my law firm, had the delivery witnessed and then videotaped the package being opened to reveal, in my case, a motown 45 rpm. I've offered the videotape to paypal, but they have not been interested thus far. Oh well. I intend to stay on paypal by all means available to make sure they honor the insurance program they have set up and on which they market their services. I've never seen a more easily provable case of fraud -- so if they aren't going to pay on these auctions, not sure when they will. In the meantime, I am watching the following auction with keen interests. Some eerie similarities between recordsforall's auction and this one -- recent Ebay membership, feedback built up on 45 rpm sales, sudden change from paypal payment accepted to international money orders only, no hisotry of blue notes to sudden availability of high-end, top quality stuff, etc. http://cgi.ebay.com/LEE-MORGAN-Lee-Way-LP-...1QQcmdZViewItem In the meantime, thanks to the long standing members of this site. I've learned a ton from reading through the posts. Hope to be a participant going forward. B
