  1. Thanks, I thought I remembered something like that. I had a chance to pick up the TOCJ version but now know better...
  2. I remember seeing something about sonic problems with the RVG version of this reissue. Does the Japanese TOCJ version correct the distortion or whatever the problem was?

  4. If the pre-order price is any indication - about $100. - this will at least initially be in the metal spine format...good news from my perspective.
  5. Has anyone heard if the new "Seven Steps" Miles box slated for release next month will be available in the old metal spine format?

  7. OK, so where can one buy these?
  8. Wow! What a list! Are these going to be in standard jewel boxes or those awful cardbord sleeves, do you know?
  9. As George Bush says (and he is getting his wish, isn't he!): "Bring 'em on". Yes to plastic jewel cases, yes to straight re-issues of the original albums with no alternate takes!
  10. I recently picked up the TOCJ version of Charlie Rouse's Bossa Nova Bacchnal and from about the 3:00 to 4:00 mark on track #7 "In Martinique" there seems to be some mike distortion on the guitars. Or is there? Is this just the second gutar in the background or is it in fact distortion, can anybody tell? How does it sound on the new RVG version? Does anybody have both to compare?

    Jimmy Smith

Can anybody give me the low-down on the RVG of Cool Blues? I remember reading something when it came out about improved sound quality from the first issue but that the liner notes had errors in terms of who was playing on which track. And, is this one of those live sets that has a lot of distracting noise from the band humming along, talking in the background, etc? I'm a Jimmy Smith fan but only want to jump on this one if it is a good-un!

    Donald Byrd

I got a line on the TOCJ of Byrd's "Royal Flush" Anybody got the goods on this one? I don't think it has been available in the US as far as I know...
  13. Per Mosaic replacing the first disc with a cleaned up "The Rock": "No, the bulk of the sets are pressed. Apparently a Japanese CD exists that was made from a tape in better condition, but that wasn't known at the time."
  14. True enough, I'm sending mine back.
  15. "I'm listening right now to the TOCJ, and there is no problem with The Rock." OK, so are they going to make it right?
  16. The next Select Sets (after the Curtis Amy and Duke Pearson sets due by year end) will be 3 CD sets by Bob Brookmeyer (# 9 in the Select series) and another of Bud Shank with Bob Cooper (#10 in the series). Projected release date: late Jan. '04.
  17. How 'bout one of the great Leo Parker Blue Notes? Have they forgotten these? Rollin' with Leo would be a great RVG addition!

Indestructible has a different recording date for "track #7" but there are only 6 tracks? What gives?
