Sorry, guys. I couldn't make it. Too much family stuff got in the way this past week. I am stuck in Toledo right now at my brother-in-law's place. Our minivan broke down in Maumee. Bad timing belt. Egh... I hope you are having a great tour! I'll have to catch you next time. Jim

I'm a coke addict. I have been trying to give it up but usually drink 2 or 3 bottles a day. I quit smoking 5 years ago. I always told myself that if coke is my only vice, then that's not too bad. Well, i've put on a bunch of weight in these past 5 years and it's time to make some changes. My uncle still owns an arcade business in Lansing (Pinball Pete's). About 25 years ago when I was 13 or 14, he would take me with him when he went from store to store fixing his machines. One of the benefits, other than free games, was that I could have all the free coke I could drink. I was hooked at an early age!

Do you deliver? ← I'm going to be just north of Greenville, MI next week and may even check out Organissimo in Pentwater on the 6th. I'm not sure if everything will fit in our mini-van, but if you are interested, i'll darn sure try! -

Unless you have a Squeezebox or have a music server, I don't see any reason to have a giant hard drive. They can fail as easily as an iPod. I back up all of my digital music to CD-R's. I just bought my first DVD writer so I will probably start burning my mp3s onto DVD+Rs. I keep an excel spreadsheet with the contents of my discs. When I want to hear something, All I need to do is find the disc, and transfer the music to my iPod. It's easy, it's cheap, and it's served me well for 7 years now. If the iPod dies, I still have my files. I may eventually build a cheap box to serve my music and put together a 500 GB Raid, but I will still always burn my music to discs.

I don't use iTunes any more. I use Foobar2000 with the foo_pod plug in. It's very technical, but you have much more control over your music. I haven't experienced a crash and I've owned 4 iPods. I always sell the old one and upgrade when a new model comes out. Here are a few links if you want to give it a try: http://www.tinkafoo.com/log/foo_pod.html http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index....showtopic=19156 http://www.foobar2000.org/ Make sure you use version 0.8.3 of Foobar with the plugin. It's not yet funtional in the new beta.

I never had any USB issues in OS 9. Maybe some of the earlier drivers were a bit unstable in OS 9.0.4, 9.0.5. All of those issues were ironed out in 9.1 and 9.2.
-
I forgot about that firmware upgrade. Thanks, Chris!
-
I really suggest you upgrade to os 9.2. I'm pretty sure I have a disc around somewhere. Send me PM with your address and I'll send it along.

Maybe you should try turning on your virtual memory since you only have 128MB of physical memory. Find the memory control panel, open it, then find the check box that turns your virtual memory on. I would set it at 192 so you have 128 MB of physical memory and 64MB of virtual memory. Once you have changed the setting, you have to restart your computer. When you hear the chime, hold down the option and apple key as it reboots to rebuild your desktop file. There are some instructions here: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=10182 Give it a shot and let us know what happens!

Can you open the Mac system profiler in the utilities folder or Apple Menu and post a screen print or cut and paste the system information that comes up? Also, control-click on your desktop hard drive and post the information that pops up. Maybe we can troubleshoot the problem!

I'm glad you've found a constructive way to take out your aggressions since you've stopped visiting the Politics section of the board!

STAX/VOLT - The Complete Soul Singles 1968-71
Jim Dye replied to rockefeller center's topic in Miscellaneous Music
Oh Hell Yes! $40 bucks? I'd have it by the end of the night. It's not out of print. However, it has been repackaged in a smaller slip case and the book shunk down to the size of a jewel box. Essential stuff. -
I'll just be glad that I won't ever have to hear that awful Rob Thomas song again. What ever happened to the Black-Eyed Peas? Let's get it started! Ha! Let's get it started! In here! :bwallace2:

How long are you gonna be in Cleveland? I'm going to be up there in a couple weeks. I'm hoping to see Organissimo in Michigan, hook up with connoisseur series500 around the 6th of July for some Detroit area record shopping, and head to Cleveland to visit my wife's family until the 11th. Maybe we could hook up for a beer if you'll be around.
