I have received much joy from several rodcasts! Since you have a Mac, you should get the new iLife 06 suite. Apple has added podcasting tools to GarageBand. I haven't spent too much time with it, but it looks like it makes the whole process pretty easy. I would suggest getting an Odeo account. Free bandwidth, easy online tools and the ability to podcast by phone! It's very cool.

My Father-In-Law's Dell started showing this message AFTER he replaced a noisy cpu fan. The replacement fan probably didn't match the exact specs of the failing fan, so the BIOS kicks in with the warning message. Everything else is fine, though. Let us know if the message goes away one you replace the fan, Jim.

I believe you can turn off FireWire disk mode. There is a check box when you look at the iPod preferences in iTunes. There are some instructions here but they may refer to an older version of iTunes: http://www.iconlockit.com/iPodDiskUse.htm

What artist did you discover for the first time in 2005?

I have also heard very good things about the Toshibas. I have a Dell Latitude that they gave me at work and it has been excellent. You might want to wait a week or two until Macworld on or around January 6th. The rumors going around are that Apple will release it's first intel processor based iBook, with a 13.3 inch screen. You possibly will be able to dual boot both Windows and OS X. http://www.thinksecret.com/news/0511intelibook.html

I really enjoyed this week's show. I even ripped the stream and copied it to my iPod so I can listen again when we drive up north for the holidays. A CD Baby order is imminent. Thanks for the great show, David. -

Thanks, Jim! I like the option of up to 8 inputs. I'll definitely consider the firepod! What kind of rack case do you recommend?

I've been given the task of putting together a mobile recording rig for recording podcasts, spoken word events, panels, etc... I need something where I can bring in at least 4 independent vocal tracks and mix them later. The budget is between 1000-2000. We already have a PowerBook with Logic Express. Here is what I have come up with: MOTU Traveler Firewire audio interface. (850.00) 4x Shure SM58 mics. (400.00) 5x Sennheiser SD202 headphones (150.00) plus stands, cables, pop filters, etc... Anything else you can think of?

I was flying home from Detroit yesterday morning, parusing the SkyMall catalog. After looking at all kinds of useless gifts and gadgets, I turn the page and immediately start laughing. Guess what I see? -
Thanks, everyone.

I just found out today that a close friend that i've known for nearly 30 years died of an asthma attack on Monday. I suspect an accidental OD since the guy was a walking pharmacy and had fallen on some pretty hard times. I'm flying home to Michigan on Thursday. I've never lost someone close to me who was my age. I think I'm having a much harder time with this than when I lost my Dad to Lung Cancer back in 1990. Maybe it's because I have my own family now. Sometimes life can just kick you right in the jimmy. Damn.

The Back Room is still open. I was able to get in for a short time this morning, but now it's unaccessible. I have submitted a helpdesk ticket with my webhost. AFAIK, this is completely unrelated to the Organissimo Jazz Forums being down. ?????
