  1. The album is very good with the exception of the goofy vampire spoof dialog that Philly does at the begininng of the album. Very corny.
  2. Blues for Dracula by Philly Joe Jones. Scored a first pressing in VG++ shape for $5 on Saturday.
  3. Yikes!!! Hopefully you didn't pay alot.
  4. And you know Atomic paid no more than $5 for that record!!!
  5. Lovelady by Lovey Powell on Transition. It also came with the booklet. Looks in VG+ shape. Paid US$10 for it at an antique shop. I wish it was a Cecil taylor, Donald Byrd or Doug Watkins though. Have no idea what this will sound like, but i couldn't pass it up.
  6. Smaller diameter size? Smaller logos? Smaller font? What should I be looking for to distinguish a original blue label from a later blue label? Thanks again.
  7. OK. Being a newbie here, what is the difference between "small" and "large" on Riverside? I have tried to research the forum before asking the question but can't find other mentions with details. Is there a thread where the riverside labelography and jackets differences are detailed especially with the early blues, an what makes a first press with this series? Thanks for sharing the knowledge.
  8. Wynton kelly on eBay What makes this Wynton Kelly a 2nd Press? Did it come out on the white label originally?
  9. Four years of hitting that store every month and sifting through Herb Alpert, Judy Garland, and Barbara Steisand records finally paid off. I'd rather do that than go back to the yard sale bit. The success rate on that is really slim. I got a chance to play the record and it really sounds clean. Unfortunately, I was hoping that the music was a little bit more out there, but Lacy sounded pretty constrained. I almost had a better score this weekend. I decided to drop in on a Goodwill thrift shop next to a Mexican restaurant I was eating at. After culling through a bunch of Montovani and Andy Williams, I pulled out an original thick, glossy Blue Note Sleeve of Donald Byrd At the Half Note (BLP 4060). Unfortunately, the sleeve was empty; no record. I still bought it for 50 cents. You never know....
  10. Steve Lacy --Soprano Sax Prestige 7125 Saw it sitting in the yet to be priced bin at my local record store, on the floor. Asked to see it, wondering if it was the OJC. Take out the record. VG+ NYC DG!!!. I stuffed it back in the sleeve and my heart started pounding. I ask the 20 year old multi-pierced girl behind the counter how much? She says, "Oh that's been here a while. It's really old. The manager can't come up with a price, but I'll ask him." Needless to say, I've been looking for this record a while I'm wondering if he says $50, I'll probably take it. $80? don't know. 5 minutes later, the manager comes down and says, "Is $10 ok?"
  11. I am also interested Axeman dsockel@comcast.net Thanks, Dave
  12. I have the chance to buy Volumes 1-4 of these, but they look like second pressings from 1963 or so. They are the black label (stereo) with gold writing with a deep groove. The record jackets have the pictures pasted on the covers. Can anyone confirm what they first pressings looked like? Were they the heavier yellow?
  13. Heading there for business next month.
  14. If you only had time to visit one store for jazz vinyl in San Francisco, where would you go? Amoeba? Thanks.
  15. Trying to gauge market for some potential releases. Thanks, Dave
  16. Why am I looking for these contacts? I have over 1,000 reel-to-reel tapes of radio broadcasts, club dates, etc. from the 50s-70s and am exploring the feasibility of releasing some of this material commercially. One of our first steps is to contact the artists' estates and determine if they are interested in participating, and if so, at what cost for the rights. We have alot of the greats and alot of the shuld have been regarded as greats in the collection. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide. Dave
  17. Roland Kirk Philly Joe Jones Dizzy Reece John Gilmore Any known resources would also be helpful. Thanks.
