I had one previous version of this on cd that I gave away some years ago because it sounded dull and I had so much Ra. I had thinned out my Ra collection and now have built it back with the new legit reissues. This Corbett Vs Dempsey sounds fantastic imo--I'll be very surprised if you don't prefer it in comparison to other issues.
that's good to know. I have the CvD version on order as I always found the sound wanting on the Charly edition

It still gets a nod here, but it's neither the top choice nor the only choice.
The first Blue Notes are foundational, both as a group and as individual records. But...they imprint, strongly imprint. So they are not necessarily where I go first to relax and enjoy an Andrew Hill record, although yes, any "list" of "essential" Andrew Hill records begins with those, especially Black Fire and Judgement!.OTOH, fuck lists.
So....my "go to" Andrew Hill records, the ones I go to when I'm not wanting to study or binge are these:
+
and then two that are not really "definitive", but ones that I like for their unique personalities
Eternal Spirit was my first exposure to Hill or Hutcherson as I recall. That led to my buying "Our Thing" which introduced Kenny D and Joe Henderson which the led to etc... etc.....I still rate Eternal Spirit

No strange odour on mine. That might be the first time I've deliberately, or accidentally, sniffed a CD cover
You need to check out Peter Tosh - Bush Doctor. I recall that it had a scratch and sniff sticker that had very distinctive aroma of the non legal variety...

sad news, what a year it's been. A really great musician.

Terumasa Hino--------Journey to air---------(Love/Ultra Vybe)
Pretty wild workout. I'll need to give this a few more listens to establish if the star studded band actually make it airborne. I know nothing about this reissue program other than it being part of RSD2020. For anyone interested pressing seems very good but then again I've got nothing to compare it to. Printing quality of the sleeve is adequate , about the same standard of the Blue Note 80 LP series.

Stefon Harris "Black Action Figure" Blue Note cd.
not played this in probably a decade but I recall it being really excellent. Another to dig out...

My local RSD shop didn’t carry this title. They’d just opened up after an extra prolonged lockdown I guess they didn’t want to take the risk

I got my copy today via amazon uk in less than 24hrs!

Sad news. A great musician

I'd be happy to help if Daniel has any problems. I recall copying the Morgan 50s set booklet for someone here but struggled to get it work properly using an A4 flat bed scanner. In the absence of an A3 copier i ended up photographing the pages with a macros lens...

Of the duos , the only one i know is the Sommer one which i recall liking (not played it in a while). I recently picked up the FMP reissue of Santana (rec. 1968) with Favre and Kowald. Very enjoyable set with a clear debt to Cecil Taylor.

A couple of new discs just arrived from Holland.
First up..... Guus Janssen/ Win Jansesen------Home Made Music----(geestroden)
I've admired Guus J for nearly two decades since seeing him perform. Here his playful side is well illustrated. JS Bach like melodies and other eccentricities pepper this entertaining release. What's not to like when a disc starts with Herbie Nichol's House Party Starting. The other disc is as yet unopened new release from the ICP - de hondemepper (ICP 062)

Yes - it has been for sale on Bandcamp.
I had my suspicions on source as the John Thurlow book mentioned that the tapes were believed destroyed. This LP sounds to be from a master though - impeccable sound. Good news !
Cadillac have done a great job - flipback laminated sleeve as well.
to them !
Thanks for this, ordered....although it'll take over a fortnight to reach Scotland.....border quarantine perhaps?

Another thumbs up for the three volumes on NB. All excellent, performance and sound. I order from NB directly too. Highly reliable with orders getting here in about 4 weeks. I'm happy these were on CD as I'm not convinced by NB's vinyl pressings.

If the Hoffman Board rumour is correct, there will be a 3LP Tone Poet issue for this one forthcoming. Presumably without alternates?
it's been a while since I played this but recall that the balance and sound quality left a little to be desired.

Same here.
Same here too. I picked up TOTS years ago and was indifferent to it but as time has passed I've enjoyed it as I've dipped in and out. I don't get rushing but a building of tension.

"The hardest one for me to find was Jimmy Smith's "Cool Blues".
The important thing there was to get the early 2000s RVG reissue that pitch corrected the McMaster 1990ish reissue
.
I'm not the biggest JOS fan, with many of his recordings leaving me cold but Cool Blues is superb. Absolutely love it...

Don't forget Ted Brown he's still going now into his nineties. I love "Jazz for two cities" (Imperial/London), fifties date co-led with Warne Marsh but for me i've enjoyed everything he's recorded.

The label seem to expect to set out soon of course copies may well be with distributors etc .
its an excellent release as I’ve mentioned on another thread

I occasionally use FB but generally don't like it and really don't know my way around it.

Cecil Taylor and Tony Oxley--------Birdland, Neuberg 2011-----------(Fundacja)
Recent issue from the Polish imprint. CT seems quite rhapsodic here. Excellent sound for both men with a perfect balance.
