Isn't the one I listed a different record?

I ordered it from Amazon about a month ago and it still hasn't come.

Listening to the local college radio station on Saturday and heard something I really liked which turned out to be a Rashied Ali record that was just released this year! I was listening to the local college radio station and the announcer mentioned that Nimbus West was started here in Santa Barbara and recorded at least one of their records at the local Lobero Theater (where Charles Lloyd plays every year-- often on his birthday). This article suggests that, though they did record the piano solos at the Lobero, the company was based in LA. I was a big fan as a kid. ( I'm surprised he's only 7 years older than me.) Now I only have his first Lp because of the Gil Evans arrangements.

Agreed (though IIRC, it leaves out the dialogue with Monk from the 12/24/54 session).

Just came back from seeing the Charles LLoyd Delta trio (Jason Moran piano and Marvin Sewell guitar) at the 600 seat Lobero Theater in his home town of Santa Barbara on the night before his 87th birthday. The nearly sold out audience was enthralled (as was I). When I saw him there on his birthday 2 years ago he never sat down. Now he often sits when he's not playing. Saw Don Was there and asked if they had recorded the concert. He replied that Charles records all his concerts. It was all very contemplative with (IIRC) no up-tempo songs but I was shocked when they took their first (pre-encore) bows. I thought they been playing about 25 minutes. Turns out it was more than an hour. I guess I was mesmerized as were most of the audience. Two encores later they'd played about 90 minutes without leaving the stage. T

IIRC (and I often don't) BOC was supposed to do some music for the film "Heavy Metal" and though the deal fell through ,they released some songs that mention characters in the movie. (Sorry to be so vague but, though I was involved in the film and the soundtrack, I didn't know much about heavy metal music so left that to others. I did meet Bruce Lundvall who was representing Columbia records, so he and I talked about jazz while others dealt with the rock. I remember showing rough cuts of the film to Ronnie Dio and Don Felder but had no idea who they were. )

Well the cd has now arrived. I was wrong (I'm often wrong): there are extensive notes in the booklet. However I think all the important information regarding these performances is on-line, though the booklet contains much more about Powell's life and career.

Damn good movie.

His 3 books are easily the best bio of Pops-- including the supposed autobiography. There is some repetition from book to book but I expect that someday the 3 will be combined, edited, and updated into the authoritative biography. Ricky has now put up a chronological Spotify playlist of all the recordings mentioned in the book. A great idea.

I think Ricky's jocular persona hides a serious scholar. (I say that as a former academic.) This is a work of scholarship and a great read. Agreed.

Ordered the cd and have dowloaded it. Physical cd hasn't arrived yet but I think most of the info in the booklet can be found on the Bandcamp site even if you haven't purchased it.
