It's the close-up headshot LP (original I guess). Didn't realize there's a nasty looking scratch across the first song on Side 1. Perhaps my Nitty Gritty cleaning machine will minimize the sound from it a bit...

I didn't mean nothing great in terms of the music, but it seems every estate sale has the dealers pushing you out of the way, looking for the big money BLUE NOTES & PRESTIGE, etc. But in terms of music, what I picked up today comprises most of my collection, so I'm quite happy - especially never having seen much Lionel Hampton or PeeWee Russell in most people's collections. I'm listening to record 2 of the Lionel Hampton box as I type and it's just totally blowing me away. I have a few of the RCA black&white two-fer CDs that came out a few years ago but I don't recall getting as excited when listening to those... Truly a great find for me today

All of the below for a $1 each and in MINT condition (even the multiple and boxset) from an estate sale. Not the best stuff, but I like it so... 1937-1941 COMPLETE LIONEL HAMPTON 1970s RCA 6 LP BOXSET BENNY GOODMAN - CARNEGIE HALL CONCERT (2LP COLUMBIA 6-EYE - probably 2nd pressing) PEE WEE RUSSELL PLAYS PEE WEE (BELL RECORDS) CHARLIE BARNET - TOWN HALL JAZZ CONCERT (COLUMBIA 2ND PRESSING/6-EYE) SINATRA-BASIE (with gatefold cover - never saw that before) AHMAD JAMAL - TRANQUILITY (ABC) Again nothing great, but I like it. I have the newer digipak - is the one you mention an older release? -
Try royalmailers.com - their LP mailers are about $0.15 - $0.20 cheaper than BU.

I love the Duke and Coltrane LP, especially In A Sentimental Mood - that version just REALLY does it for me...

Bruce Lundvall Leaves Top Spot at Blue Note

Bruce Lundvall story Only story I could find on the web about it after being notified by a Facebook friend's posting... -
I have a Bunny Berigan tribute CD of his that is quite enjoyable plus some LPs on the Monmouth-Evergreen label. God Bless that he lived up to 91!!!

Why not check out some of the recordings on redhotjazz and then make a HUGE wishlist from there. I've discovered so many great bands from there and have begun to expand my expanding (much to my wife's dismay ;-) collection...

There's a great article on the boxset and its origins here: Ella Fitzgerald - Rediscovered

RIP Ken Ober - Remote Control was definitely one of my favourite game shows and one of the hippest. I didn't want to say it, but sadly now, Ken has become part of one of their famous game show categories.

Best Buy must've figured out the error - box is $59.99 and backordered now...

Picked up a sealed LP of MEZZ MEZZROW on Disques Swing for $1 and a Japanese import LP called AMERICAN MUSIC BY ALBERT BURBANK - BIG EYE NELSON on Dan Records for $2 with a neat booklet, albeit it's all in Japanese.

What about all the other labels that EMI owns where titles haven't seen the light of day on CD - Imperial, Capitol, Roulette, etc?

Saw the RCA 45 Dashboard Record Player and was really intrigued by this. Guess it didn't last long, plus not sure if it was skippy. Here's a pic - RCA Under Dash Record Player

What about CREOLE COOKIN' on Verve with Bob Brookmeyer, Jerry Dodgion, Pepper Adams, Zoot Sims, Joe Farrell, Bob Wilber, Dave McKenna and others! Probably one of my favourite Hackett LPs...

John Cage's composition 4'33" is on heavy rotation in my office cubicle complex! :blush2:

Panera always has Jazz playing - sometimes extremely loud in the bathrooms! I'm sure they're corporate CDs but it's nice to see that decision coming down from corporate America...

PHIL ZITO and his New Orleans International City Dixielanders 10" Columbia LP with PETE FOUNTAIN & GEORGE GIRARD - pretty nice shape and sounds good - $5 at a local LP store BENNY GOODMAN STORY - Vol 2 on black/silver Decca - EXCELLENT condition - $2 from same store

I don't think she was completely naked for the shoot! I swear I see some skin colour, photoshopped where a bikini would be in the pic where she's laying down.

The label says The Perennial GEORGE LEWIS but the music doesn't
tjluke68 replied to tjluke68's topic in Miscellaneous Music
OK, the matrix # is 8277, but the first 7 is so faint that it looks like a 1. So searching the net - looks like they put YUSEF LATEEF - BEFORE DAWN on that side. I'll have to find that LP since what I heard was mighty tasty. Plus gotta find another copy of THE PERENNIAL unless someone wants to share a WAV or MP3 of Side 2. Thanks again for the help - didn't think to look at the matrix numbers. TL -

I forgot to mention that it leads me to believe it was a mis-pressing on Side 2 of the LP I have. Really wonder what I'm listening to - it's a TRUMPET player version of the LP, so probably something from the 50s... -
I recently picked up some George Lewis (the clarinetist) LPs on ebay and was listening to THE PERENNIAL GEORGE LEWIS, when I wanted to see who was playing the vibes, the guitar, etc. Well those instruments weren't listed on the LP back-cover. Then I took a look at the LP and realized there were 4 songs, however the cover listed both side 1 and 2 as having 5 songs each. I'm sure this has many times, but the thing that pisses me off is I was really, really diggin' the vibes, guitar, clarinet, piano, bass, drums (maybe even trumpet) mix and I have no clue what LP it's from. I'll have to listen to it again to see if I can distinguish any cover tunes and then scour allmusic.com (or elsewhere) to determine what I'm listening to. Anyone have the same LP or the actual songs? Thanks!

I have a source here in NJ where I've picked up many original SEALED LPs and several CDs over the years. Just last week I picked up Eric Kloss, Bill Hardman, Larry Coryell and Eddie Lockjaw Davis Muse LPs - all SEALED and about $5 each.
-
I was at an old LP distributor recently and picked up some great SEALED LPs. My tastes run all across the board, so I found and greatly enjoy: MAX MORATH - In Jazz Country - WITH DICK SUDHALTER TERAMASU HINO - Live in Japan on CATALYST NEW PAUL WHITEMAN ORCHESTRA - Monmouth/Evergreen LP - with JOHN R.T. DAVIES TUTTI CAMARATA - Tutti's Trombones - with HERBIE HARPER, FRANK ROSOLINO, etc plus some MUSE LPs by ERIC KLOSS and EDDIE LOCKJAW DAVIS, neither which I've had the chance to open yet.
