Not sure if this is old news or not plus the Craigslist ad has been taken down, but on a blog that I frequent I read about the master tapes for Black Jazz Records being up for sale: Read about it here

I pre-ordered my copy from blowitouttahere.com (or something like that) for about $10 less than the Hip-O MSRP.

LF: Sidney Bechet - RCA Jazz Tribune Series, Vol. 5

I've been looking for the LIONEL HAMPTON version in Volume 5/6 and the Amazon, etc prices are quite exhorbitant. Probably better perusing the used CD stores. -
Record Store Price Stickers on Used LPs
tjluke68 replied to Teasing the Korean's topic in The Vinyl Frontier
Yeah, the Princeton stickers were horrible. I remember the clerks would give tips on removing them - hold the cover onto a 100 watt light bulb for a few minutes until the glue heats up and then you should be able to remove it (yeah, along with half of the cover as well...) A year or so ago, they finally switched to a more end-user friendly sticker that peels off much easier. -
Noises Off: Unintended/Unexpected Sounds of Jazz Recordings
tjluke68 replied to BillF's topic in Miscellaneous Music
I recently bought JAZZ COURIERS / SOME OF MY BEST FRIENDS ARE THE BLUES CD on Acrobat and about 10 times thru the entire CD there is what sounds like a pop-up displaying on a computer screen. Seems like whomever did the transfers was multi-tasking (instant messaging, texting, etc) and it kinda ruins the mood of the disc... -
I've found some interesting JAZZ/HOT JAZZ 78s at yard/estate sales recently - stuff I've never heard of before: listening to it now - LEE MORSE - Where'd you get those eyes c/w Daddy's Girl scored within the same week or so: DON VOORHEES PAUL BIESE GENE RODEMICH
-
Tea for me, too. Typically 8-10 cups per day. I "naturally" decaffeinate the loose leaf tea by pouring out the first batch after letting it seep for 30 seconds. Makes long car trips even lengthier due to the pit stops...

Not sure of exact number but probably: 4000 LPs 4000 CDs 500 78s

I had Freddie Hubbard sign a CD for me when he was at the JAZZ STANDARD some 10 years ago or so and Stanley Turrentine sign a CD when he was at Blue Note or Birdland (forget which). I've also picked up some LPs at yard sales or on ebay with autographs by Woody Herman, Maynard Ferguson, Stan Kenton, Count Basie and probably some others I can't remember right now...
-
I saw him about 5-6 years ago in Red Bank, NJ at the Count Basie Theatre; a very fun show! He will truly be missed.

I have the BOSSA NOVA JAZZ Glad-Hamp LP that I found recently at a yard sale for a buck. I love it despite allmusic.com's 3 star review. It might be on my short list of what to burn to CD next...

A Reedman Reaches for His Roots
tjluke68 replied to mjzee's topic in Jazz In Print - Periodicals, Books, Newspapers, etc...
Anyone going to see Rudresh & Bunky at the Jazz Standard in NYC? They're playing tonight thru Sunday (started last night). I want to go but can't convince the wife to join me - I might just go stag and maybe meet up with some other organissimo forum members... -
I'll be adding a thread to sell CDs soon as well and it's for shelf space/dis-interest reasons as well. Mostly jazz stuff that I have bought in haste or thought would be better than it was and some alt rock, etc stuff that I just don't listen to anymore...

Was at a neighborhood Friends of some Park flea market/giant yard sale and came across some book/music wholesaler that had some interesting items for sale at $0.25 each or 5 for $1. Picked up the following even though I hadn't heard of most of the artists/bands: RUDRESH MAHANTHAPPA - Kinsmen VASHTI BUNYAN - Some Things Just Stick in Your Mind - Advance CD PANAMA 3 - Calypso Panameño, Guajira Jazz & Cumbia Típica on the Isthmus 1960-75 Advance CD JACQUES LOUSSIER - Bach No 2 SWINGLE SINGERS - Jazz Sebastien Bach No 2 PIERRE ALAIN GOUALCH - Exploring the music of Serge Gainsbourg EASY BEATLES - Various artists, some easy listening, doing Beatles but has Shirley Scott, Clarence Whheeler, etc so some of it really kicks GARY BURTON - Astor Piazzolla Reunion RIVAL SCHOOLS - former members of QUICKSAND (one of the best post-punk, hardcore bands IMHO) plus some others that weren't too memorable All in all about 11 CDs for $2 - so really about $0.18 each. REALLY REALLY REALLY DIGGIN' THE RUDRESH M CD, the GARY BURTON and a few songs on the VASHTI BUNYAN CD...

Was at a somewhat local CD/record store last weekend and picked up the following: MERCURY VSOP 4CD boxset - $8.99 (no OBI strip, not sure if there was one - plus there's no back tray insert - again not sure if there ever was one) SUN RA - Lanquidity - $5.99 Top it off, there was a downtown sidewalk sale, so they took 25% off of the prices above, so the VSOP cost about $6.74 - WOOHOO!!! Anyone have a scan of the VSOP back insert, i fthere is one?

I was working for a music marketing company back in the mid-to-late 90s when the digipak was released. We were doing some promo work for IMPULSE at the time and remember my supervisor having to gather up all of the boxes and throw them in the garbage. Not sure if it's collectible, but he gave some of us two copies of the sealed CD and tossed the rest in the garbage container outside. Me, thinking Coltrane, collectibility and dollar $igns was thinking about doing some dumpster diving later that day but when my supervisor came back from the trash bin he mentioned that "luckily the garbage truck was there so we just threw 'em in and watched 'em get crushed." JEEZ!!! But I doubt it's something collectible but who knows...

I once heard James Moody tell the same joke about 5 years ago, but he may have inserted George Foreman's name instead of Frazier.

Sidney Bechet and son Daniel Sidney Bechet
-
Serge Chaloff - Boston Blow-Up (Capitol original) Art Blakey - Three Blind Mice (UA original) - both a little scratchy but for $1 each at an estate sale, can't go wrong. Hopefully my Nitty Gritty record cleaner will help. Listening to the Chaloff now and it's pretty good with just a quick wipe with the felt cleaner and solution - few pops/clicks here and there but still enjoyable...

Will the masses picket, just for the fuck of it, when one of them die? These pigs are disgusting excuses for humans...

Listening to a BILLIE STEWART Savoy 78 (which MAY or MAY NOT be BILLIE HOLIDAY). Gloomy Sunday c/w In My Solitude - Sure sounds like her plus there are some great sidemen as per some of the websites that offered up information on the MYSTERIOUS 78. Anyone else have additional info???

Supposedly my mom went to see Santana when I was about 3-4 years old and took me along - would've been about 1971-1972. AFter that, the first concert that I went to when I was around 14 years old was (don't laugh) ADAM ANT in 1982/83 in at the Capitol Theater in Passaic, NJ.

LaVern Baker Atlantic 78 - Tweedle Dee b/w Tomorrow Night. Has a slight crack in it but still sounds great!!!

Listening to SONS OF BIX - COPENHAGEN on the Jazzology label. Found it at an old record distributor that I frequent a few times each year.
