  1. I'm just getting into old R&B/DooWop. I've recently picked up some great compilations from the WestSide UK label that contains great sides from King, Federal, DeLuxe, RCA, Bluebird, etc. Some of my new favourites are STEVE GIBSON & RED CAPS, WALLACE BROTHERS, THE CATS & THE FIDDLE, and others. I highly recommend the WestSide comps as their much better in packaging than Collectables/Oldies! I believe much of it can found at half.com, ebay or gemm.com. Check out DOOWOPPIN, Jive Is Jumpin': RCA & Bluebird Vocal Groups!
  2. I just picked up an MPS 2 LP Colorado Jazz Party set from 1972 with Sweets Edison, Clark Terry, Kai Winding, Urbie Green, Flip Phillips and others. Great stuff! Anyone know if this has been released on CD? Thanks!
  3. I wanted to know if had ever been out on LP plus any other possible information...
  4. I picked up a CD yesterday called THE CONCERT - 23.6.1958 - Jazz Legacy/Baden Baden/Unreleased Radio Tapes. It's on the Delta label and has Zoot Sims, Kenny Clarke, Hans Koller, Willie Dennis, Peter Trunk, Lasse Werner and others performing 12 tunes from some concert in Germany. I can't seem to find any other info on this concert. Can anyone help? Thanks!
  5. I picked up the Mel Brown CD with Herb Ellis, Gerald Wiggins and others! I've had the LP for some time and was going to transfer to CD. This is great! Now I gotta go get the Gloria and groove to her and Grant...!!!
  6. Byrd is the Wyrd I've seen them on the Blue Note LP liners and always wanted the Donald Byrd one. I could probably get one cheaper by doing a laser printer iron-on of Caricatures or Best of... Anyone own this or the others that were available back in the day?
  7. I haven't gotten into too much new music lately since most of my purchases are Jazz related, but I did happen to check out THE START on FUSE TV. Really great stuff and sorta reminds me of 80s new wave. Check out their song, "The 1234" on thisisthestart.com - click the PLAYLIST button in upper right corner... Rock On!
  8. FUSE TV - Cablevision's answer to MTV shows this as a regular promo!
  9. If you like that version of Showboat, then I recommed an LP that came out on Warner Bros around 1959 with the Jim Timmens All-stars doing showboat. It has Jimmy Cleveland, Donald Byrd and some other greats that I can't recall right now. Another good one with Jim Timmens (arranger) is on WB - Stewart/Williams doing Porgy & Bess. This one has Cootie Williams, Rex Stewart, Hilton Jefferson, Ernie Royal, Urbie Green, Lawrence Brown and others! I put both LPs on 1 CD (with artwork)if anyone is interested in a trade... Thanks, TL
  10. When is Warner France, Japan or US going to put out: JIM TIMMENS ALL-STARS doing PORGY & BESS or SHOWBOAT w/Donald Byrd, Jimmy Cleveland, Rex Stewart, Cootie Williams RUBY BRAFF - GOES GIRL CRAZY PAUL DESMOND - FIRST PLACE AGAIN CHICO HAMILTON - WITH STRINGS, 3 FACES OF DICK CATHCART - BIX MCMLIX MARTY PAICH - BROADWAY BIT, I GET A BOOT OUT OF YOU GROOVE HOLMES - BOOK OF BLUES SAXES INC TROMBONES INC plus tons more from the late 50s/early 60s that have barely seen the light of day on CD.
  11. I snagged a bunch of the Ellington's SEALED at Borders about 4 years ago for $4.99 each - WOOHOO!
  12. I have a bunch of these great CDs (most have never made it out in the states) that I've picked up over the years DUKE ELLINGTON - ALL-AMERICAN, COSMIC SCENE, A DRUM IS A WOMAN, JAZZ AT THE PLAZA, MIDNIGHT IN PARIS, DANCE AT BAL MASQUE BENNY GOODMAN - HAPPY SESSION, another one who's name escapes me right now) TADD DAMERON/MILES DAVIS CD - forget the title I'm sure there are others. Can anyone help or offer up some titles I haven't listed that I need to hunt down? Thanks!
  13. I was at at the Jazz Record Center in NYC recently, and noticed some new Blue Moon reissues. There was a Bennie Green LP that was originally out on Enrica, plus a Rocky Boyd CD (which Black Lion put out under Kenny Dorham's name), 3 Jack Quigley Trio CDs (I'm trying to find a different release that I have that's quintet and was on red vinyl), plus a few others that I can't remember... Anyone have these on CD and wish to comment? I was low on cash and failed to pick up any....
  14. No one has this or cares to comment? I find that hard to believe...
  15. I've been trying to get my paws on this LP for some time and have never seen it in any record stores and it's always gone too high when on EBAY. Does anyone have this and care to comment? Does anyone care to burn me a copy to ponder over purchasing? I guess Capitol/Blue Note/EMI has no immediate plans to release on CD, since it's all originals (I'm sure Xmas standards sell better than originals) Thanks!
  16. Not on ebay either but I picked up some autographed LPs at yard sales: MAYNARD FERGUSON CAMEO LP BOBBY HACKETT LP
  17. Vinyl. HIGHLY doubt this will ever show up on CD, unless of course I make a copy for trading purposes...
  18. I'm a HUGE JAPAN fan! Been listening to them for about 20 yrs now and still going. I would recommend almost everything that was put out, even though the first 2 LPs are quite different than their later material. ADOLESCENT SEX is quite good and the song, "Rhodesia" is phenomenal off their second LP, OBSCURE ALTERNATIVES. For some great David Sylvian, check out his "First Day" LP with Robert Fripp and some of his work with Yellow Magic Orchestra's R Sakamoto (not going to attempt the first name), especially the song, "Forbidden Colours." JAPAN ROCKS! Have a great JAPAN shirt (reissue?) that I got from a vintage store 'round here in NJ....
  19. Just picked up Alton Purnell's Funky Piano New Orleans Style. Can't wait to get home and give 'er a spin...
  20. Scored a NM original Douglas LP copy of PETE LA ROCA'S TURKISH WOMEN AT THE BATH for a quarter. Yes, $0.25!!! It has one of those cutout marks but still, it looks barely played and sounds GREAT! Also got a copy of Gabor Szabo's Bacchanal and a Don Goldie Argo LP for the same price!!!
  21. I picked up the Artie Shaw/Gramercy Five, the Rollins/Hawkins disc, the Benny Goodman/Harry James Years CD and a Jelly Roll Morton CD. All 4 plus tax was $21.20 - that's equal to one CD if I went to Sam Goody at the mall...
  22. DrJ, check your Private Messages if you wish to trade for the Stewart-Williams/Timmens CD. Thanks, TL
  23. I've been bitching about all the great Warner stuff that's never been on CD months ago on the Blue Note BBS. Some of has been issued on CD (Chico Hamilton, Paul Desmond, Marty Paich, etc) but a ton of it remains unissued. I have LPs by Matty Matlock, Jim Timmens All-stars (Donald Byrd, Jimmy Cleveland, Lawrence Brown, etc), Stewart-Williams (Rex Stewart & Cootie Williams & co doing Porgy & Bess), Trombones Inc (Eddie Bert, Bob Brookmeyer, Bennie Green), Saxes Inc (Ben Webster, etc), Pete & Conte Candoli, Ruby Braff plus many more... Since it appears that there's no reissue program to get these out on CD, I've decided to make my own copies as I've recently burned the Stewart-Williams/Porgy & Bess Revisited and Jim Timmens All-Stars/Showboat Revisited onto 1 CD - WOOHOO my own 2fer!!! Anyone wishing to trade for something similar, let me know...
