I think it's one of the most enjoyable Miles albums, it hit me immediately and I've never grown tired of it. Such a beautiful, relaxed vibe. One of the Miles albums I play most frequently.

What is your opinion of Hulu Plus?
Shawn replied to GA Russell's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
The difference between Hulu Plus and the other streaming services is Hulu offers episodes of current-season shows, usually the next day after they air. Netflix & Amazon Prime generally offer past seasons. However, because of the "increased expense" of providing current season shows you still have to sit through commercials, even on the paid plan. I usually just use the free version of Hulu, I don't bother paying for the Plus package. They do have a fine collection of Criterion titles available. But really...it's a free trial...so what's to lose? -
Netflix - Lack of Quality Selections?
Shawn replied to Tom 1960's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
By request here is a list of some lesser-known titles currently available from Netflix streaming. Many of these are independent films that received little theatrical distribution but deserve to be seen by a broader audience. The list is in no particular order and I’m not going to rate them, because I think in the end enjoyment of film is wholly subjective. I would say they range from fair to excellent and everything in between, but I found something to enjoy in all of them. Short Term 12 (2013) – Drama Liberal Arts (2012) – Drama Much Ado About Nothing (2012) - Shakespeare Stuck In Love (2012) – Comedy/Drama Grabbers (2012) – Irish Horror/Comedy In A World (2013) – Comedy Your Sister’s Sister (2011) – Comedy/Drama Blue Ruin (2013) - Drama Breathe In (2013) – Drama I Give It A Year (2013) – British Comedy The Cabin In The Woods (2011) - Horror/Comedy We Are What We Are (2013) – Horror The Kids Are Alright (2012) – Comedy/Drama Arthur Newman (2012) - Comedy Monsters (2011) – Sci-Fi My Week With Marilyn (2011) – Comedy It’s A Disaster (2012) – Comedy Killing Them Softly (2012) - Drama Violet & Daisy (2011) – Comedy Albatross (2011) – British comedy/drama Somewhere (2010) – Drama Valhalla Rising (2009) – Action End Of Watch (2012) - Action Thanks For Sharing (2012) – Comedy/Drama Miss Pettigrew Lives For A Day (2008) – Comedy The Iceman (2013) – Drama Bottle Shock (2008) – Comedy Rampart (2011) – Drama The Goddess of 1967 (2000) – Drama The Host (2006) – Korean monster movie Europa Report (2013) – Sci-Fi Odd Thomas (2013) – Horror/Comedy -
In the top right corner of iTunes you'll see a small drop-down menu, one of the options you can select is "genres" which looks like the artist view but is separated by genre. Much easier than using the song list view. I just updated a couple minutes ago, looks cleaner than before, will play around with it later tonight.

The main reason I'm watching Star Trek: Enterprise.... Linda Park

Whenever you update the Spotify software it reactivates the open automatically feature. FYI.

Star Trek: Enterprise - season 1

I would recommend listening to both Damnation and Heritage, both feature all clean vocals. They should be available on the UK version of Spotify. Each record has a very distinct personality, taken in tandem with Pale Communion it's quite the trio. Opeth is a "grower" band, it takes a little while to absorb their records, but I find that makes them even more rewarding once they sink in.

Doctor Who - Really loving Capaldi as the The Doctor.

This just got added to Netflix streaming recently, sounds like something I should check out.

I'd have to agree with that. This IS a great collection! Yes, that was the album I heard. Left at my Grandmother's house by either my Mother or Uncle, all of my early music experiences were a stack of albums and 45s that they didn't take with them when they each went to college.

I got about halfway through season 1 yesterday, it's a hoot, completely gonzo.

First time watching this series...all the hype over the past week about the return got me curious... Twin Peaks - season 1

One of the first records I ever remember hearing was the song "Hungry" by Paul Revere & The Raiders, I was probably about 3 years old at the time.

The usual stuff over the past week: The Good Wife Doctor Who Haven Vampire Diaries Sleepy Hollow

Glad you guys liked the Opeth and Big Big Train recommendations. I think the spirit of Prog is alive and well in the 21st century.

Happy Valley has been released as a "Netflix Original" Streaming Exclusive, it has been available here in the states for a few months now. "Netflix Original" means Netflix invested some money into the British production in exchange for exclusive US rights to play it via their streaming platform.

I also watched Gracepoint. I have not seen Broadchurch so it's all new to me. Tennant does a good job approximating an American accent.

They lost me as a customer right around the time they added the majors, I haven't even looked at their website in several years.

Different writing & directing staff on that season, also a different show-runner. However, all of them returned for a back to form season 5. I think there are a few good episodes in season 4 (particularly the Sophie B. Hawkins dance), but season 5 is a marked improvement throughout and got the series back in the right direction. I'm really looking forward to season 6 which will air on Yahoo after the first of the year.

Forget what I said... I watched the pilot of Gotham and it was quite good. Great looking show, good cast, has promise. I've also enjoyed the first two episodes of Forever.

Junior Mance on "Light And Lovely" from "The Tenor Scene". This piano solo was the reason I gravitated toward the Griff & Lock albums in the first place. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ui01MZOeVHo Dave Brubeck's *almost* avant garde solo on "These Foolish Things" from Jazz At Oberlin. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qtx3Dw8aM60

I'll probably wait until after the season completes before I start watching it. I have too many shows queued up as it is...and I'm starting to get burned out on comic-related material in general.
