They played on football fields!

The last piece of the mainline Opeth discography for me was Lamentations. There's a decent price at Amazon(US) for the Special Edition - 2 CDs & 1 DVD for $13.42. I looked around for rumors of a blu-ray but didn't find any so I bit. It arrived in less than 24 hours and that indeed is the version you get. Amazon is getting closer yet to yesterday delivery.

It sounds like he might. That outing was more or less the equivalent of workout innings between starts. Using Zito as an extra innings reliever made me think "Charlie Leibrandt" for some reason. Sorry Berigan. As far as East Coast bias, Sports Illustrated had the Giants losing to the Angels in the World Series as their preseason pick.

If you take into account the ballparks (ERA+) the Cards had a better ERA since AT&T is a well know pitcher's park. As for saves, the Cardinals had a much higher run differential so their relievers didn't have as many save opportunities. This is a nice problem to have. And just like that the Giants are coming back. Hmm, Timmy warning up in the pen.

Great night for the ex-Mariners Fister, Ichiro and...da da da da...Raul Ibanez. Sheeeesh, pretty good playoffs we're having.

I skipped the TV to go with Mike Shannon and the KMOX crew. Shannon started the 9th and repeated a couple of times how important the "Warshington" run was in the 8th. To get the local flavor was something as they are still stunned. Mike Shannon sounds out of breath right now. Wow!

Thing is Cano, Ichiro, Swisher & The Grandy Man (Can't) have all stunk too. But the Yankees have better replacement options with Alex at least when facing right handed pitching. Woo hoo, it's time for baseball again!
-
Why not? Last year's World Series surpassed these current fine games.

Now that's what I'd like see happen, the Easy Listening Hall Of Fame! And then to find whatever board has the threads seething with anger over Perry Como not being in the inaugural class and the arguments over old school easy listening and these new breed autotuners.

Movies so bad they become campy
Quincy replied to slide_advantage_redoux's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
The Room is highly recommended for fans of bad cinema. It's so bad that at times I wanted to bail but something so idiotic would happen and drag me back into it. I should clarify that I do have a friend who ended being a replacement for an actor who dropped out during the shooting of the movie. In some cities (even my own) it will appear on the late movie circuit like Rocky Horror with fans who scream out lines. Here's one write up although there are spoilers, if one can spoil a spoiled movie to begin with. Exquisitely bad! -
I don't think they have #5. I believe it's the first two in STL and last 3 in DC. I don't think it's fair to the Division winner in this format. I agree. However some feel the 2-3 is more fair as it allows the team with the better record the chance to win the series at home. Baseball might return to the 2-2-1 format next year.

Good enough! Amusingly enough I was talking baseball with a friend who is a Deadhead yet he said he couldn't stand the Mustache Gang because of their long hair & beards.

Explain the Cardinal hatred to me. Tony "Genius" LaRussa is gone. Is it a style or arrogance? Is it based on the INF fly call by the ump (there's been little mention of the timeout-strikeout-HR-next-pitch except by Chipper post game). Is it just the winning a WS from the wild card position last year and winning another title too soon too? Is it that they have the most titles by a NL team, thus are Yankees Senior Circuit? I'm genuinely curious as other than from Cub fans I'm not well acquainted with Cardinal-hatred from a national perspective. I do understand getting screwed by the umps because of Denkinger, or the team that broke your heart being hated.

I'm visiting Cardinal country and it's a hell of thing to have 3 elimination games in a row carrying over from last year's World Series. 4 PM is an awkward time for a game and as my dad isn't a fan we went out to dinner. The waiter who we've known for years is a fan so I put my iPhone on the corner of the table for him (and me) and when he'd walk by he could glance though I also gave verbal updates of "no change" and the like. That was an awful call & I feel for you Berigan, though if we get this going again maybe they'll bring 2 home. Given the delay if MLB had any sense they'd overrule it right now. Yeah, sure, that'll happen.

I hate that. That's what was done in the '81 strike season. The Cards & Reds had the best records but neither won a half and so were left out of the playoffs. This format is used in single A short season ball (and perhaps other leagues) though the minors are different since the best players are promoted along the way.

Not to turn this into the Hoffman forum, but FUCK Jan Wormer and his fucking rock 'n' roll hall of fame. I loathe his fucking magazine & mind(less)set.

I love what you have to say about your Rangers but I disagree here. The more you carve up divisions the more likely you have a losing record "win" a division while more deserving 2nd place teams lose out. Look at the NFL when a 7-9 Seattle team made the playoffs. And yes, I know they won their first game but still. Whatever the debate is for AL MVP about Mike Trout vs. Cabrera, the thing that kills me is those twits who say "Well Detroit won their division." Yeah, but who had the better record? Angels. And who had the best record in baseball once the kid was called up? At least with 3 games to go in the season it was the freaking Angels. So shame on them for not calling him up earlier because of arbitration issues down the line. Anyway, I'd rather go back to 2 division than go to 4!

April makes it tricky but the 2009 Tigers were in first from early May until the final day of the season. They blew a 3 game lead with 4 to play to the Twins.

Wishing you a most excellent birthday.

Homer Bailey is scheduled to start on the last day of the season. I wonder - if the Cardinals are able to clinch the wild card the day before Homer might have the best shot to pull a Johnny Vander Meer...since Johnny did it. A hung over Redbird team with a line up full of scrubs? The things that aren't in his favor (aside from the staggering odds against throwing 2 no hitters in a row): 1) The Cards & Reds do not like each other so I doubt the Cards would lay low even if they've already clinched. 2) Homer is the 4th starter so if he goes much over 100 pitches I would think Dusty would have to pull him. 3) It's Homer Bailey. He's just as likely to give up 5 hits by the 3rd inning.

I agree with what you're saying though I'm not sure about the picture (Hawthorne final season?). A whole lotta music on the blu-ray as I started it too late in the evening that I couldn't finish it in one sitting. Look forward to many more spins as that's one hell of a band. Great interview too btw.

I have the Wynton Christmas LP which I bought back when I had maybe a dozen jazz albums and mostly bought it to have jazz Christmas album. I don't think I have him on the side for anything though I may someday pick him up on a Blakey. I have Branford on 4 though I don't see listening to Sting's Dream Of The Blue Turtles or Miles' Decoy again. I like his appearance with the Grateful Dead on 3-29-90 which is probably my favorite guest appearance for the band. So the final score on leader 0/1. Sideman & leader is 4/1. Branford wins.

I know you're only passing along what was in print but this is a shocking error. It was Bob Fucking Gibson, not Negro League star and Hall of Famer Josh. Damn! Unbelievable!

I like Beltre's reaction, which basically is: "Name names and don't hide behind 80%" Which is true, Gagne has put everyone who was on that team under a cloud now. My reaction: *Yawn* Does anyone care anymore? I took a look at the LA roster for his record breaking save season. If 80% were juiced it wasn't very good juice.

Not everything he did was a ballad. Many years ago a friend included this on a mix tape to show his peppier side. Whether you find it fun or irritating is up to you.
