Gattuso is so aggressive that sometimes I think he should see the yellow card before he even steps on the field. Gattuso always seems like that, always on edge. I thought the Gunners were the better team for the last 30 minutes or so. At least they won. Losing or tying at home would have been a blow. Arsenal was definetly the better team in the complete second half, and they had very big chances in the first half, and they had the best scene of the match in the first half, with the unbelievable ball from fabregas to van persie (whom i really do not admire, but i have to admit this anyway.....), so, sorry, of course Arsenal was the better team, no doubt!!!! -
How do you deal w/ all the music you'll never hear?
manfred replied to colinmce's topic in Miscellaneous Music
yes, i have to admit that i have had this feeling, too.... guess, you are younger than 35, are you? (should not sound arrogant or boastful, age is no merit!) you will once see, that about 98% of the recordings do not deliever, what you think, they promise to you, or what you expected from them..... if it would really help you, i could send you one of may hat albums, for instance one of Joe McPhee or Steve Lacy.... -
What a talented family: Rafael & Sylvie van der Vaart.
manfred replied to B. Goren.'s topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
sorry, have to destroy this romance, writing from hamburg, where the male part of this "talented family" played for the HSV, he`s a bit haughty and boastful, and he likes it to be sulky and huffy, because nobody sees, that he is the greatest player.... but even bert van marvijk didn`t play too often with him.... but i guess this belongs another forum..... prances and nasty, as you said about sylvie...... -
that`s very nice, thank you for the photos! that`s very nice, thank you for the photos! well, i`m really impressed by your collections....

...i think so, too, but the point is, that it`s not the fault of the musician, that some critics call`em "the future of jazz", the new miles, chet, lee, lester, louis, dizzy, terence, till, bix, wynton, hannibal, butch, kenny, clark, bubber, fats, clifford, ack, manfred, freddie, woody, dusko, blue, booker, wallace, roy, tom, leo, tom, tom, mike, enrico, tomasz, paolo, markus, reiner, olu, baikida, paul, ian, palle, randy, chuck. ..... so i have to check them out by myself, and with your kind help, that i`m asking for from time to time... even if i will get it from van basten....;-)

wowh, looks very impressive and sweeping, but also exhausting and demanding....do you hear this already for breakfast...?? perhaps try some tord gustavsen or ketil bjornstad from time to time.... ;-)

thank you, that helps, will have a look on Robert Glasper, too, never heard of him, are you familiar with aaron parks? Again, read something about him, but have not heard his music...... I reported on a Aaron Parks gig I saw two years ago Think of it you might put into your check list, John Escreet very impressive pianist , very modern. thank you again, hope you are not related to this terrible football-player "van Basten".....;-) (he kicked us out of european championship some days ago.....)

The Five Albums That Changed the Way You Hear Music
manfred replied to md655321's topic in Miscellaneous Music
The more precise i think about this question, and the better i remember my hearing-experience, The more easy it seems to me to come to the music, that really changed the way I hear music, I think, there are not so many records, that really change the way of hearing… Number One, no doubt, is “Cream - The Last Concert”, That was Thunder and Lightning compared to everything, I had been listening up to this movie… The drum solo of Ginger Baker on Toad, and the improvisations of Eric Clapton cleaned my ears from so much acoustic garbage and rubbish, that I really heard “new” things when leaving the cinema, similar to the new way of seeing, when I got my first glasses Number Two was a concert of “Globe Unity Orchestra”, I was not prepared to what would happen on stage, I sat in the first row, and, really, i`m not joking or kidding, I was scared, they would attack me, I really thought they were escaped from psychiatric ward and I was looking and expecting nurse and doctors would (should) come to bring them back….. -
Don Cherry Humus/Actions and Loes McGillycutty
manfred replied to manfred's topic in Miscellaneous Music
hey, thank you!! how do you know that? -
i started this topic already five years ago on allaboutjazz and got not a single reply, perhaps now?? On Don Cherry`s LP "Actions" there is a singer called Loes McGillycutty, singing on track "Humus". I don`t know anything about her, and I have never seen another LP, she is singing on. Does anybody know her? Any other LP, she is performing on? Any information about her? Thank you for helping! Kind regards, Manfred __________

there are different "ways", on which music comes to me.... 1. opened and changed my heart: a) Dumitru Farcas & Marcel Cellier: Taragot & Organ Improvisations, Vol. I b) Keith Jarrett: Köln Concert 2. opened and changed my soul: a) Mike Westbrook: “The Blake Setting” b) Art Ensemble of Chicago (live in Hamburg about 1989 at “Fabrik” and "Urban Bushmen") c) David Murray live with Aki Takase, about 1990 at “Fabrik" - and "Flowers To Albert" d) Don Cherry - Humus (on "Actions - live in Donaueschingen with New Eternal Rhythm Orchestra") 3. opened and changed my ears: a)Cream - last concert (concert movie - 1968, Royal Albert Hall/London) b)Red, Black and Green by Pharoah Sanders on “No Energy Crisis” - various artists (from “Thembi”) 4. opened and changed my body: a) Pat Metheny “Two Folk Songs” from 80/81; b) 10.000 Maniacs: Stockton Gala Days 5. opened and changed my brain: a) Anthony Braxton: Circle - Paris Concert b) Roscoe Mitchel: Nonaah -
