  1. I wish I could look at the world the way you do, my man. This is singularly one of the craziest posts I've ever read. Now, on the Mustang issue, I agree, the 6 is more than capable enough, and I've had this discussion with my own parents (they want one, and they want the V8, or they did until I showed them the specs and the price difference. Now all of the sudden, the Bullit edition suddenly isn't so important). But, here's where I mock those who whine about SUV's: in many cases, they serve the exact same purpose as a minivan and get comparable gas mileage. But one's okay and the other isn't? That's completely fucked thinking. And the whining about what will happen if an SUV hits your little car is screwy as well. You KNOW that there are tons of SUV's on the road (and there's at least one Hybrid SUV available at the moment as well, thank you very much), and yet you still went ahead and bought a tiny little automobile that won't survive a crash with one. Whose fault is that? You knew exactly what you were getting into. As for me, my next car will be an SUV because I've torn up my back too many times getting drums out of a VW GTI. And as much as I love VW's, they're too small. So, the next one will be a Jeep Grand Cherokee. And when somebody in some tiny little car hits me and their car turns into an accordian, I'm gonna tell 'em that it serves them right. That said, I wish that every company were forced to develop hybrid versions of all of their cars (Corvettes and other niche market cars excluded, natch), so that we'd use less gas, conserve energy and be better off financially AND environmentally.
  2. Another option is a little goofy but could work: Park your car at the Cumberland CTA garage. $1.75 for 12 hours, right off the CTA Cumberland stop (blue line). During the winters, I actually do this because parking in my neighborhood is so tough. Take the blue line into downtown, and do whatcha need to do. And remember that public transit and taxis are your friend. Old Town School of Folk Music. There's a Lincoln Park location that'll be closer to you, but I don't know how well stocked they are. for things like ragtime, boogie and chicago style jazz, you might actually find some stuff. Goose Island has a new beer that I've only seen in bars, but I might be wrong: 312, and that's actually some tasty stuff. And Berghoff always has stuff too. If you're willing to go to the suburbs, there's a place called Lunar Brewing Co. in Villa Park that I've played at a few times, and their beers are top notch. Myopic in Wicker Park, on Milwaukee Ave. If you go, get ahold of me and we'll get a beer at one of the 6 million clubs around six corners (Milwaukee, Damen & North) as I'm right down the street in Ukranian Village. Blues jams are few and far between, but there's at least one good jam session every night except saturdays somewhere in town. Also, if you're at the Ambassador, there's a great club right downstairs from you in the Pump Room. Fridays and Saturdays, Erin MacDougald plays there. If you like vocal jazz, and you like to look at extremely good looking singers, that's the place. And the $13 burger is worth every penny.
  3. Sounds good, hopefully I can do it. One thing we COULD do is all chip in off-site with a few bucks and set up our own payouts. It would be a bit of a pain to set up. Alternatively, and given the nature of this board, we could replace cash by CDs. Guy ← OK, so a freeroll on a weekend. Prizes, if any, will be handled off-line between us. Who's in? List so far is: BigWheel Guy UprightBill . . . ← I'm in, depending on the weekend. ← Are you coming to game at my house next Friday? ← I'm out of any game bigger than 2/4 for a couple of months, unless you can guarantee some real fish at your table...lol...

  5. Considering that we're better as a road team than home team at the moment, one could make a case for sweeps. Although, honestly, I doubt it. However, a sweep of the Yanks and taking two off of the Red Sox wouldn't be out of the question depending on pitching. And, yep, that'd be 5-1. I think more realistically, we take 2 out of 3 from each, so 4-2 is my official call. As for your prediction, quit your whining. The White Sox will rule October baseball until we get our asses handed to us in St. Louis.
  6. No, but come to think of it, with the Astro's turnaround, its still possible that you could see the rocket at Fenway in October. That would be a helluva sight. ← I don't think that the Red Sox will be playing any other National League teams this season. If you want to see the sox in the world series, you'll need to fly here, my man. I predict we get swept by the Cardinals. Yep. I said it.
  7. this explains everything!
  8. In the main event or the other games? Where did you place? Did you play against any name players? What were they like? My questions are endless... and how far is Muskegon, MI from Chicago?
  9. I totally understand that we play in the single weakest division in baseball. But, to get a little whimsical on ya for a second, think about it this way: This has been the year of teams, not superstars. And the Sox really are playing as a team. Hell, no one's even ragging on Thomas these days, which is totally unprecedented. So, yeah, this half, now we're in trouble. We took two from Boston, have done well against the Yankees when we saw them, and now we get to see how good this team really is against the AL East. No matter what, the Sox at this point are practically guaranteed a playoff spot. With a little luck and a lot of heart, these guys might just make the world series. Do I think they'll win against St. Louis, if it gets that far? Not at all. But a world series where I could feasibly make all 7 games, played between two teams that hate the cubs equally would be a wonderful, wonderful, wonderful thing indeed.
  10. My prediction: embittered Mariners fans start whining about teams that are winning. Big Al is right. This is our year. Losers? Sheesh, you hatin' types are starting to grasp at straws.
  11. I have to admit Dan, I'm kinda worried about the next month or so in the CWS schedule. The first half, we played lots of Central and West teams, who are, for the most part, weaksauce all the way. Now we've got Boston twice, the Yanks twice and Minnesota (I'm hitting games for that series, and probably the Indians as well). Considering how poorly we've done against Oakland and some other formidable teams, I am shaking in my boots a hair. However, after losing two to the Tigers (!), I think the boys will be pumped to do some damage this weekend. We'll see how it all turns out. ← And now we know: four game split, and the pitcher you were ready to concede would be a loser saved you from losing the series. Might be interesting come October, because if the wild card comes out of the East and the White Sox do indeed have the best record in the league, it will be the White Sox hosting the wild card team. I figure, as long as Schilling is in the rotation and the back end of the bullpen is set, we'll do OK. ← If doing okay means losing in 5 to the White Sox who will have had another chance to face you guys and learn from our past mistakes, then sure, you'll do okay. Don't get cocky. Guillen and company are doing one helluva job managing a team with a meager bankroll and usually fairly empty stands. For the most part, they're getting everything they can get out of these players, and these guys are playing AS A TEAM and kickin' some major ass.

  13. this guy has a helluva sense of humor. The questions and answers are hilarious. If only I lived in England...
  14. The new version of the DVD is practically a how to play poker documentary. I wore out my VHS copy, and someone stole my DVD. Time to buy it again I assume.
  15. translation: my parents' VCR will be tied up in timer mode starting tuesday, I believe.
  16. Moneymaker is a cocky and pouty little bitch. I saw my cousin demolish Hellmuth in a ring game. I like Negraneau's style, and Ivey's a damn good player as well. There's an english player who plays every hand like it's his last (Gus something), and I wish I had the balls to play like he does. The guy that won the WSOP won with 7-3o. I can't believe it. He actually raised pre-flop with those rags, and it paid off. To each their own, and 7.5 million to him, I guess.
  17. We'll see. You do know that Hermanson was a joke with the Sox, right? You do know that he bounced all over, in fact, before stumbling into this job? I don't think he's the second coming of Rivera. BTW, is Contreras lined up to face the Sox? You might want to consult his time with the Yanks to understand how he handled the pressure ... ← First off, we could both wallpaper entire rooms with baseball cards of players who came into their own after stumbling around for a while. Actually, The Cubs alone could wallpaper their entire locker room with players that became great as soon as they left "the friendly confines." Hermannson is doing well by us now, thank you very much. I admit, Contreras is awful, but he's the worst of the five, and our relief is getting deeper and deeper by the day. So, fine, it'll be three out of four. No sweat. But if you honestly think you guys have a chance at winning this series, Dan, you're delusional. But we'll see. I might very well end up with a copy of this message PM'd to me with the words "nyah, nyah, nyah" underneath it come next monday. We'll see, won't we?
  18. ahem, until you drop 4 this week to us at the ball mall.
  19. As of right now, there are still 185 players in action. In order to broadcast everything, play would have to be so slow that it would be unbearable, and nobody would be able to get into rhythm. Man, that would suck a ton. Not to mention, that'd be 20 tables with rabbit cams. Even with all of the sponsors that the WSOP now has, I can't imagine that it'd either be cheap or worth the expense for that matter. But, also, as you were saying, a live broadcast, unless it was delayed maybe 5 minutes, would be disastrous. Could you imagine the shit that would go on? Now they make nearly invisible earpieces. Have someone watch the WSOP netcast from their hotel room and send you messages on what everyone is holding. That would be entirely within the realm of possibility and incredibly shitty.
  20. not on the flop. check and call on the flop and look for the turn. If the turn is a seven, check and call, and realize you've probably lost the hand. Ditto for the river. But, if the turn and river are A-Q, K-10 or some other high cards that will attract action, bet your chips and your neighbors. Nothing pleases me more than an ace on the turn on a flopped straight.
  21. Yes, happy belated birthday...
  22. that's 5,600 AFTER the three days of flights. Yikes.
  23. Don't feel bad. We got swept for the first time since August of 2004 by Oakland. At least we won't face them again until possible offseason play. This I would dread. Now, July 22nd-24th vs. Boston at the ballmall. Now this I look forward to...
  24. "Freddie Freeloader" has overdubbed vocals in Chinese... Guy ← Good to see that Jon Hendricks vocals on this one are seeing the light of day again.
