Looks like amazon.it realized its mistake. price is up around 70 euros now. Just received today my set ordered from amazon.it. Shipped from Germany. Agree that packaging is not great. The cds are in those bifold cardboard holders with the open slits facing each other on the inside fold. To remove a disc I have to squeeze the top and bottom of the sleeve to allow space for my fingers to reach in to slide the cd out.

TD: I do not know if tickets at door will available at this concert. For some previous Tubby's concerts I waited to just before the show and tried to buy tickets and then saw that the show was sold out. The shows were never enticing enough at those moments for me to drive an hour to see if I could still get in. Oh, and I have tried emailing Tubby's before including about this show and have had no response.

What about the LPs on Horo never reissued on cd? Other than the already bootlegged cds, e.g. Sun Ra's "Next Steps", isn't there free jazz on Horo worthy of cd reissue?

What live music are you going to see tonight?
cliffpeterson replied to mikeweil's topic in Live Shows & Festivals
Yes, Sunday was a busy day. At 2:00 PM, I caught a straight ahead session in Athens presented by Planetarts.org. Then I motored down the road to Kingston to hear the Grassi Trio. Unfortunately, that concert started 15 minutes late so I heard only 20 minutes or so. Great stuff. Then I drove back to Saugerties to see Ban and Maneri in support of their new ECM release, Transylvanian Dance. Ban's and Maneri's explanation of the research into Bartok's field recordings to prepare for the record was absorbing. The music was engrossing. -

I preordered all 4 cds from Dusty Groove. DG indicates that Funny Funky Rib Crib is to be issued about October 25th while the others, which were to be issued about 10-18, have been indefinitely delayed. OTOH, Forced Exposure indicates that all the cds and the LP Box are to be issued on November first. -
Went looking for any upcoming concerts-none posted on her website. So I did a google search and turned these up: JALC October 16th: https://ticketing.jazz.org/17541/ October 18th Smalls: https://www.smallslive.com/events/28545-sheila-jordan-quartet/ November 17th Birdland: https://www.livenation.com/event/rZ7HnEZ1AK-Mkd/sheila-jordan-trio November 23rd Cold Spring: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/sheila-jordan-and-cameron-brown-tickets-1011508157127

Dusty Groove reported on this. Apparently Palmetto found an additional recorded version of the "A Beautiful Day" tune and determined that "11/8" had been edited. About 20 extra minutes. This to be issued on November 1, 2024 and will be on 2 cds: https://www.discogs.com/release/31449392-Andrew-Hill-Sectet-Plus-10-A-Beautiful-Day-Revisited As yet, there is no announcement on Palmetto Records' website.

Agreed that according to Michael, the Sunday, August 25th concert does not include Shipp (I was at that July 28th Lace Mill concert). Regarding the Saturday, August 24th Jazz at GAC concert at Time and Space, LTD, I have no personal knowledge as to who is appearing. But if you click on the link in my post above, it brings you to the announcement of this concert on the Garage at Chatham website. On the far right side of the screen there is an image that has "Kirk Knuffke Trio" above "with Michael Bisio and Matt Shipp" with some artwork below that. When I wrote my original post above, I thought nothing of that image. I see now that this image is taken from the cover to Knuffke's "Gravity Without Airs" release except that what is on the website does not include "Gravity with Airs"-that phrase was cut off. See: https://taoforms.bandcamp.com/album/gravity-without-airs. IMHO, the website announcement is misleading if Shipp and/or Bisio are not scheduled to appear.

The individual cds are available for preorder at Dusty Groove and Forced Exposure -
Well, as I remember it, Cam Jazz bought Black Saint and Soul Note around 2007-2009. So, at least as far as the issued albums, Cam Jazz owns that material. The box sets are still uploaded on that website. I have never read that there was unreleased material. The box sets did not compile all of the individual albums. For instance, there must be around 7-10 String Trio of New York albums that never got the box treatment. One advantage of the box sets was the pricing, which for me made buying them attractive. Dave Douglas recorded 3 albums for Black Saint/Soul Note. According to a 2008 post on his Greenleaf Music website, Cam Jazz acquired the Black Saint/Soul Note "catalogs" in 2008: https://greenleafmusic.com/black-saintsoul-note/

Search for "Berlin Jazztage" on YT. Recently uploaded there is a Yosuke Yamashita Trio with Manfred Schoof Berlin 1974 color video and a Muhal Richard Abrams Sextet Berlin 1973 color video. -
Big Beat Steve: "I cannot imagine any library in our greater area having that book for loan". Most of the books that I have made special requests for through my local library have been loaned by university/college libraries, not public libraries. But, again, WorldCat.org will show you what entities have a copy of your desired book within x number of miles. Just now, I checked Worldcat.org for "Harlem Jazz Anecdotes". The first 19 hits are all for university/college libraries. The 20th is the New York Public Library on 42nd street. There are 333 hits in total worldwide. There is a search function that allows you to search only public libraries. OF those 333 sites, 4 are U.S. public libraries. 22 hits are for copies outside the U.S. That includes 2 in Germany, 1 in Botswana and a couple in Australia. The Teddi Reig autobiography is an example of a book that I read because it was available as a special loan,

Regarding the availability of "Harlem Jazz Anecdotes" through a public library, my local library, Bethlehem Public Library, takes special requests for books that are not available to it through the regional library system it is a part of. Indeed, I made a special request for "Harlem Jazz Anecdotes" within the last year and was able to take it out on loan for a specified period with no chance for renewals. This is something that I have done for other books not available in our regional library system. In such instances, I check WorldCat.org for the availability of the desired book. Worldcat will show if a desired book is available and where based on proximity to your location (I understand Worldcat can search worldwide). This presents an alternative to the special loan request. That is, you might go to the closest source that has your desired book and take the book out directly from that source. In the case of "Harlem Jazz Anecdotes", a copy was available at a college library 11 miles from my home and that library would have loaned me the book based on my local library card (or a state library card). I was just too lazy to do so. Of course, I could have read the book at that college library.
