  3. After wondering about the question as to whether Dee Dee Bridgewater gets me hot or not, it seems rather mundane to ask fellow board members whether they recommend a source for sleeves for cds. in advance, thanks.
  4. Just wanted to alert all nick brignola fans, that the reservoir label has put out a recent live disc which represent all or most of the material from the sweet basil concert of a decade ago from which one disc's worth of music was already released.

  6. I spoke with mosaic a couple days ago and they had slightly over two hundred of this ellington box set in stock. and then there are the copies sitting out in brick and mortar stores or other places like collector's choice. byw-they had only nineteen of the chico hamilton sets. can't remember how many jacquet though I think it was more than thirty and less than one hundred.
  7. how about the von freeman live date recently released? sounds pretty good to me
  8. how about that live date on leo with the disney tunes? if that funny or what? not actually a arkestra date but I like sun ra's piano on billy bang's tribute to stuff smith on sould note/black saint
  9. check out janet grice on bassoon-her music has a latin tinge
  10. funny, I just finished reading sudhalter's book about white jazz players. sudhalter holds purvis in high esteem
  11. at bard college on march 22nd about 1 hour south of albany, north of redhook new york. appearing with andrew cyrill dave burrell and reggie workman as i recall
  12. just wanted to start a thread that was actually about jazz and considering the origin of the site name I just wanted to drop that I head joshua redman about two weeks ago with sam yahel on organ and keyboards. christ there was more electronic gear per musician then i have seen in awhile. redman has some 8 pedals in front of him that he could hit while playing his sax. I alway wondered about being able to split your concentration when doing something like that. yahel did about three tunes on the organ and then walked over to a completely different setup which had rhodes on a 90degree angle to what I think was a synth. fun update to the classic tenor organ date. while I have a bunch of organ recordings can't say I have seem more than a couple in concert. the other one was jimmy smith and I want to forget about that performance. the club was filled that is about 150 people. the next night that couldn't have had more than 30 for the cindy blackman quartet which was a better concert in my opinion. later
  13. you gotta love pharoah-poses a problem and when the water gets too hot then backs out.
  14. check out cuber on live at the blue note on pro jazz which is his best recording on that label. has a couple good recordings on steeplechase. he and nick and I believe cecil did a date that was a three baritone band about 6 years ago. not an original player but so what? lots of fun to listen to
