Chicago/Austin High Jazz in Hi-Fi on RCA is a nice album; but why did Mosaic need to reissue as a single when the UA & Dot dates were unavailable. There were already 2 previous reissues of the RCA: (1) German as part of the jazz classics series and (2) Fresh sound (legitimate, licensed). There was no void for the RCA album.

Noticing how many of those came from the "Jazz 999" series, under 1,000 Yen from Toshiba EMI, now Universal, is there any likelihood/possibility of another series, I think there were 5 of those Jazz 999 series with many titles previously unissued or very hard to find as they were limited pressings. So, any indication of such a reissue series appearing again?

Producer Paolo Piangiarelli (founder Philology Records) LOVED Chet (see liner notes Piangiarelli wrote for many of the albums). In looking through this thread, there are a couple Philology discs mentioned "Live at the Moonlight" (very rare, at least on cd, 2 CD set); "Little Girl Blue" (w/Piangiarelli's daughter on the cover. I would add "Heart of the Ballad" also (duo w/Enrico Pieranunzi, whom Piangiarelli says was Baker's favorite pianist, also is part of the Space Jazz Trio from "Little Girl Blue"). One of the worst dates (May 22/23 1987) is "Night at the Shalimar." Piangiarelli describes the difficulties; basically that Baker was too strung out to play. Nonetheless, the next date appearing in the discography is the Tokyo concert (June 14, 1987), a highpoint of his career post losing his teeth. Piangiarelli produced many, many albums of Phil Woods (for whom the label is named) and Lee Konitz, although judging from the notes. Piangiarelli was very aware of Baker's lifestyle, see for example the notes to Naima Unusual Chet V. 1 (there is no V. 2). I post this to point out that in that final decade of his life, Baker had a close relationship with a producer who really appreciated him for (or despite) all that he was. For late period Chet, consider some of those Philology cd's; also I second the Moon "Deep in a Dream of You" and the date w/Urtreger & Michelot on Carlyne. Live at Fat Tuesday's w/Bud Shank is not bad either.

I think this set has just been reissued on CD recently; it had been very expensive.

Xanadu Master Edition Series - Elemental Music
bakeostrin replied to dougcrates's topic in Re-issues
I have 'Inimitable Teddy Edwards' on Xanadu. I wasn't aware it had ever come out beforehand on Muse. It's not listed in the Muse release list I picked up from somewhere - Mike Fitzgerald it sez on the top of the page - on the web years ago. The only of Teddy's albums in that list are 'Feelin's' and 'Horn to horn' with Houston Person (Muse 5540, 1994). But the latter was a Houston Person production, of course. MG I am wrong on that one, Xanadu only based on date (1976), after Xanadu started (1975 w/David Allyn album); appears on the French 2-fer, w/the Payne/Jordan date originally for Muse; my confusion and mistake. Came out in 1995 XCD 1231, US issue from Artistic Music Distribution Millburn NJ; has been offered for sale on this forum before, I picked up on Amazon or ebay. Xanadu Master Edition Series - Elemental Music
bakeostrin replied to dougcrates's topic in Re-issues
I brought up the Kwanza/Oops b/c it appears that the latter version has two extra tracks. Further, I wonder if those two extra trackswere CD only because I didn't in my (very brief) search come up with an "Oops" title on LP from Xanadu. To the above post of previous Muse issues, add "Inimitable" by Teddy Edwards and "Love and Understanding" by Jimmy Heath (I know that was reissued on CD on the Xanadu label in the US). I do not recall of the ones that made it to reissues on Xanadu ever having been issued on CD by Muse (at least in the US), I would appreciate additional information. I am glad to see these reissues, but look forward most to seeing items not reissued previously, although these may be fresh reissues for many. -

Similarly, "Kwanza" was issued on cd in Japan (Nippon Crown CRCJ 5015) as "Oops" on the Xanadu label in Japan in 1993 containing 2 additional tracks: "Sub Set" 10'11" and "Wazuri Blues" 4'37" This is a tough one to find. Was it an LP for Xanadu itself? Also, was "Silver Blue" ever issued as a CD (I see only an lp and 2-lp set)? thanks baker -

Brooklyn Brothers and Cuber's Cuber Libre are both part of the 25 scheduled CD reissues, yes. More here: Xanadu Master Edition series Yes, thank you. There was a Xanadu cd entitled Duke Jordan with Cecil Payne and Teddy Edwards, consisting of two previously released Muse albums (Brooklyn Brothers & Inimitable Teddy Edwards). But I am unaware of a stand alone Feelings ever appearing on cd previously (Japane, US or France); likewise Cuber Libre. -

Was the Teddy Edwards ever issued before on CD? There was a session w/Duke Jordan that was part of another cd which included Jordan & Cecil Payne (Brooklyn brothers I think was lp release, this session is also going to be reissued)? Is the Ronnie Cuber part of this group? -
I am still trying to find that CD for an acceptable price. Does it even exist? Sorry I couldn't help back then ... all those shops are now closed But yes, it does exist! You can get this music on CD on the US reissue from the 90's; it is available for under $10 US; the covers were very unattractive, but these Vogue covers do not appear to be original (other than the Broonzy set, for example; that is a great attribute for the 10 cd box, original covers, some by Pierre Merlin); also I prefer jewel case to digipaks (US reissue was jewel case). It was also paired w/another album on the same cd. Thanks to all for the great information & reviews on this thread.

Xanadu Master Edition Series - Elemental Music
bakeostrin replied to dougcrates's topic in Re-issues
I am glad that this music will be available for those who don't have it. I also think it's a nice list, but how many of these are the first reissue? The Ronnie Cuber? Attic of My Mind? Dakar was released in Japan, but wasn't it only 1 cd, so this one has new material (not released elsewhere?)? That Bob Berg cd is tough one to fnd, although issued in France & Japan Someone mentioned "East/West Controversy," Wasn't that issued by Vee Jay also (and that album was issued in Japan on cd), correct? thanks in advance -
Hello, Has Verse/Solid re-issued any more in this series? thanks in advance baker

BNLA Series, more 999 Yen reissues from EMI Japan
bakeostrin replied to Daniel A's topic in Re-issues
Are there any more reissues of the 999 Best and More since this thread? thanks in advance baker -
I am trying to purchase a single cd from an Amazon Japan seller, but the seller will only ship to Japan. Can someone in Japan purchase for me and forward it (I'll pay in advance)? Alternatively, is someone aware of any Japanese sellers who will purchase and forward the item (Hiroshi Tanno used to do that)? thanks

Regarding the packaging of the new series of 25 cd's, the website shows that cd's when placed together form a mosaic (no pun intended) of the MPS logo. Is there a list of which of these were never issued previously on cd? thanks in advance

Can anyone post a list of the reissues in which this cd appeared or provide a link to a site? thanks in advance.

I read this the other day and thought, what about Gerald Wilson, before I posted I saw that Mr. Wilson had paased away today. I am sure there will be another thread on Mr. Wilson. It depends on how you feel about Sir Charles Thompson.

Consider enjoying "Peter the Great" by Pete Brown featuring Joe Wilder on trumpet. It is available on the Verse reissues out of Japan. The album was made nearly sixty years ago, very pretty music.

Is that Gerry Mulligan CD hard to find; I recall this one quite a bit in the used bin at Amoeba in Los Angeles. The Nick Travis was on RCA (reissued by Fresh Sound; don't know if it's still in print); would it be in this series? The old 1980's Mulligan from Columbia is quite easy to find. But the sound leaves much to be desired. Very flat and metallic. I would love a new remaster. I've never seen the Fresh Sound Travis, but I doubt that it is legit. I don't see why it can't be in this series as it is RCA, there have been plenty of RCA recordings in this series. I see, yes (regarding RCA, Wilen & Blakey, etc.). As to the Fresh Sound RCA, many were reissued while within copyright maybe 15 years ago. They were promoted extensively by Fresh Sound using the RCA logo. I recall discussions here, or on the predecssor board, regarding those reissues and their legitimacy (although I may be misremembering after all this time).

If you want the Tubby Hayes, it is available as a Vocalion reissue. I haven't looked, but is the Huphrey Lyttleton also reissued in some other form, if anyone knows?

One other consideration, for Ruby Braff fans; "Holiday in Braff" appears in total on "The Best of Braff" (very widely available). If you have the Japanese reissue of "Ruby Braff Omnibus," as well, then there really is not much to be had on "Ball at Bethlehem" and "Ruby Braff Swings"
