  2. The Ron Miles Trio "Distance for Safety" Endemic. 1987. Brilliant early Ron Miles, pressed on a local/private label (Endemic). Features Bob Drake on Bass on a couple of tracks. Fantastic!!!
  3. Leo Smith Trio "The Mass On The World" Moers Music. Nice trio, Leo with Dwight Andrews on Reeds and gongs and Bobby Naughton on Vibraphone and bells.
  4. I love Cecil Payne!! But...The record "Casbah" left me cold, not freezing, cold. The Delmark cds are fairly good,IMHO, they just don't hit me, y' dig? ----HB
  5. Yessir! It's a mighty fine rekkid!! I have an original NM copy (vinyl is NM, cover is VG+++++ . I have had many LP dealers beg me for my copy, which was found in a Value Village (thrift store!). Don Joseph is indeed great on the album. No bonus tracks for me, I'm good w/ the LP. Huzzah!! ---HB

    John Butcher

Yea, and verilly, I dig "News from the Shed"!!!! Butcher has done some really neat stuff, also, IMHO, some dreck. Oh well, so did Miles! ------HB
  8. Sabir Mateen/Daniel Carter/David Nuss "Tenor Rising, Drums Expanding" on the Sound at One label. A mighty goof, natural squared! DIG!
  9. Caspar Brotzmann "Mute Massaker" Swell dbl. LP set on the Our Choice label, from 1999. 8 Bold Souls "Last Option" Another swell dbl. LP set on Thrill jockey, from 2000. DIG!
  10. Well, I am no audiophile!!! But the Jazz Factory (Blue Moon) release is good, not great, but good. If you have the Spotlight LPs, you have an idea what the sound iz like. Essentiall stuff!!!!! Very listenable. FWIW. -----HB
  11. Dig the Bernie Green LP. Love the MAD Magazine LP he did! Now spinning: John Stevens "FREEBOP" W/ Gordon Beck, Jon Corbett, Pete King, Paul Rutherford, Jeff Clyne and John Stevens on drums. Nice session. Affinity, import. DIG. ------HB
  12. Randy Weston "Jazz a la Bohemia" Riverside, orig. Some great playing by Cecil Payne!!
  13. Love Brew Moore!!! Just unearthed the Ray Nance LP that features Brew. I am somewhat of a completist when it comes to Moore. Phil Urso has told me some, uhh, racy stories about Brew. Phil had nothing but good things to say about Brew. Brew Moore:
  14. Sabir Mateen W/ Daniel Carter & Andrew Barker "Not on Earth...In Your Soul" on Qbico. Can't get enough Mateen, and this live date from 2002, sounds fine. I am NOT an audiophile. Sure, Qbico LPs are not always of the highest quality, but the love and care that go's into each LP is so great and unique. Been spinning this a lot. Hell, only 300 copies (I think) and NO cd issue. HAW HAW!! -----HB
  15. Magnetic Fields and XXX materials have always worked for me, ESP. the latter.
  16. Chuck Nessa is right, in my experience. The universities/Libraries have no use for LPs (by and large). Think about it. I have a friend who is nearing his early '80's, his quandry?, what do I do with my amazing collection of (mostly) Jazz? At first, he wanted to give it (the collection) to his alma matter, then he got wise, and thought "Hell, they will just throw it out!. (I have seen this happen, at the University of Denver, D.U.). My pal has no relatives, and is now thinking hard about selling the whole collection to a well known dealer. Tough call, any you slice it. ----HB
  17. Yep, ditto that. When shipping LPs, one shld. separate. Personally, I agree with Teasing The Korean. I don't wanna' take the time to separate my LPs, just my opinion. GROOVE! ----HB
  18. Hey Now! Griot Galaxy "KINS" Faruq Z Bey & CO. and then: (a total switch...) Ted Brown "FREE SPIRIT" Criss Cross. The Griot Galaxy "KINS" was on the Black & White label. (Hey Clifford Jordan, thee Faruq Z Bey & The Northwoods Ensemble LP on Qbico sounds OK to me, FWIW). I'm no audiophile. ----HB
  19. ep1strOphy, I do indeed agree! Asha Puthli iz amazing! I also dig David Henderson's readings. Best, HB
  20. Thanks Late! Going to have to shed some $$$, for there are quite a few items on that site. Dan Gould, Heaven forbid that trading/acquiring "burns" of hard to find/long desired music happens on this forum!!!! The very thought..... ----HB
  21. Lee Hazlewood "Cake or Death". Lee's swansong???
  22. Ornette Coleman "Science Fiction" Columbia. Always a pleasure!
