  1. Don Friedman Trio "Circle Waltz" On Riverside 431 Original. Hey ? Can anyone explain me WHY i feel like crying EVERYtime i listen to this song ? Maybe it just the cover ?
  2. i have an Ira Sullivan record with the blue label reaing "delmar" and an adress reading 439 s wabash , chicago 5 . if it helps...
  3. la "Vie parisienne" is a famous "operette" by Offenbach. if you read or understand french language, it will have a particular XIXth century french savor, spirit and state of mind. if you don't.. well, its nice music.
  4. I'd own the both of them if they were 33 1/3 rpm LPs. I am not getting into this 45 rpm fetish. And I still don't agree that cutting them at 45 rpm makes them sound any better. It just adds cost and makes them more expensive. Agreed. I'm not interested in having to get up after every song or two for just a little bit better sound. However, when they reissue Basra, I will make the exception. What blows my mind is that there are people on the Hoffman board buying these and they don't listen to jazz. Of course they might change their mind after hearing them, but damn, $50.00 a pop and you don't know anything about the music? Agreed to everything. This 45rpm reissue is just an intend to create another marketed driven mania. IMO Hoffman and his clique of arrogant know-it-all are nothing else but businessmen. Now regarding "Basra" bought by non jazz addicts, its another proof of the intelectual vacuity of some audophile onanists.
  5. Dodo if you read french
  6. me too-alltime favs. Dodo is one of my favourite piano player. (as you can imagine)I love all his recordings on trio and with Bird. His very short solo on "Relaxing at Camarillo" is one of the most beautiful thing i ever heard ; gives me chicken skin every time i m listening to it !! all is condensated in few bars... and listen how he "voices" on the bass solo... its exeptionnal ;.. Dodo has a very bright , open sound It has been said that he has an "ultra classical" or "beyond classical" approach, and i agree with that . He is always relaxed. he was a creative and brilliant, and i suggest anyone to listen his trio late 40's recordings. espacially Cosmo Street and Dairy Departs are among my favourites... IMO the best way to definite Dodo's playing is "dreamer" Did was a dreamer anf he played like that.
  7. Its a nice session. Nothing unforgetable , but fine. Anyway, 611 !!! Is the reputation of the seller an explanation ?
  8. steve kuhn trio at 611 !!!! - i scored my NM copy last year at 33 $ . Absurd.
  9. Meanwhile, someone else is dreaming about a 500 $ record auction... for something that deserves to be in the 1 $ bin, not only at Stereo jacks, but anywhere in the world... Soultrane
  10. the Stray Cats, and i'm even more ashamed to have liked it. And to have heard a Gretsch 6120 Chet Atkins through a pair of Fender Dual Showman was even better. Thanks Brian !!
  11. i arrange them by label and catalog number, but for a long time i used to arrange them by instrument.
  12. Assuming this is not a joke - Rocky Boyd is a real person. He used to live in Boston, and occasionally showed up in the audience for jazz gigs. It was a joke. That's why I put the big smiley after the statement. I thought the OP was meant as a joke as well. Well, no it's not a joke. In fact, it's ME on the cover of the record. Now the world knows.
  13. Rocky Boyd (in italian) A very complete information, with a good bunch of imagination...
  14. Look a that !! Someone wrote that Rocky was boyd was a "nom de date" for another musician (John Coltrane) anyway, someone must have met him in 1961... Rocky' s autograph By the way.... "Why not" (on Rocky's "Eease it" ) credited to Pete la Roca = "Why not" (On Dave Pike's "Pike's Peak") credited to Dave Pike = "Impressions" (on John Coltrane's "Impressions") redited to John Cotrane ... right ?
  15. Maybe he should have posted it on "You Porn"
  16. Matthew Gee All Stars "Jazz by Gee" Riverside RLP 221 white label Deep Groove. Side One : the quintet Side two : the Septet !! Fine session from 1956.
  17. Booker Ervin : "The in between"(superb !) Frank Foster : "Manhattan Fever" Lee Morgan "The Sixth Sense" "Live at the Lighthouse"
  18. I strongly recommend "Jazz in Four Colors" on RCA Victor and Conte candoli and Lou Levy "West Coast Wailers" on Atlantic (although the highlights of this fantastic record are tenorman Bill Holman choruses IMO) "Fire in the West" features Lou as a sideman, and its a very brilliant session led by virtuoso altoman Herb Geller. You can buy everything from Lou Levy.
  19. I guess they couldn't resist that white label, similar to early Riverside, some OJC have. It makes those "Sound of Sonny" looks like the real deal, especially with a blurred Ebay picture... please add the typical Ebay "more money than brain (and eyes, and knowledge)" behaviour, and you have an explanation of those 500 $. Try $599, not $500: http://cgi.ebay.com/Sound-Of-SONNY-ROLLINS...bayphotohosting I have seen this ebay listing many times...is it a sincere mistake ? or a very bad scam ? other reissues are lsited in the price range ... anyway, nobody "bought it now".

  21. West Coast Wailers (Candoli and Levy !) Atlantic 1955
  22. Yes. This is the prefect word to apply to this.
  23. Found a 3/4 Paul Smith alpaka coat at 50 £ on Ebay UK.
  24. I absolutely agree : Asia Minor is a MASTERPIECE and i'm always surprised that it did not get the recognition it deserves (maybe because it is not on Blue Note). This is one of the BEST New Jazz albums, and one of the VERY BEST hard bop session EVER (yes yes yes !!)
  25. The other one is much better, time to get it now, I'd say! I confirm that "Roamin with Richardson" is a fine album !!
