  1. I posted elsewhere (under "Discography") with a query about the RLR label. I don't know if the material from Newport in 1955 has been issued elsewhere, but the sound on it is not too bad. Anyway, some great Clifford on this thing, wherever it comes from.
  2. I'm bumping this one to ask about RLR. It's gotten mentioned a few times over the years together with the Andorran labels, so I'm curious if we've ever discovered exactly what the case was with this label. Boot? More or less legit? I recently got hold of most of the Clifford Brown things issued by the label--or reissued by the label. The sound is often pretty mediocre, but there is some amazing Brown on it. Anyway, can you all enlighten me on this one?
  3. My sense is that the Goodman estate is just about the hardest one to deal with in the entire jazz world.
  4. Agreed! I just finally finished listening to Disc 10, and I really enjoyed the small labels part. I was listening to an earlier disc a couple of days ago when suddenly I heard Charlie Parker. That brought me up and reminded me to look more closely at the booklet!!
  5. I haven't watched Color Purple yet. Despite my love of music, I'm put off by musicals!
  6. Watched that one last night. I thought Colman Domingo was excellent, and what an interesting part for Chris Rock!
  7. Me too. Well worth seeing! ("American Fiction") Especially loved the ending!
  8. Welcome back Larry!!
  9. I recently got this one. Fazola was apparently a very problematic human being, but a marvelous clarinetist. Some nice stuff here.
  10. Listening to Disc 6. It's amazing to hear him stretch out on these sessions!
  11. My wild guess would be 1,000. I got a first pressing, and the number on my booklet is 0791.
  12. I generally agree, but this one had a Wes Andersonish touch that I kind of liked. And Mark Ruffalo is great fun in it. That said, it is an odd film.
  13. Saw "Poor Things." Emma Stone is amazing in this very strange, but very good movie.
  14. Exploring some of the Song Books as I read the biography. Her singing on these was simply sublime.
  15. I can't find this anywhere! Are these previously issued recordings or new ones, and where can I find it? Many thanks!
  16. Two chapters into this new one. I'm liking it so far. She's done some good work on Ella's early years.
  17. Just saw Bradley Cooper's "Maestro." Really excellent!!
  18. Mine arrived Friday and I'm finally getting to listen to disc 1 now. Sound is *outstanding*! Really looking forward to exploring this set!
  19. Nothing for me since I got an email saying my order was being processed. We'll see.
