That's a good question. It does seem to me like I remember reading *somewhere* from Michael that Mosaic had "completed" the pre-bop BNs with its releases, but my memory on that is far from sure. gregmo

Mosaic covered pretty much all the pre-bop BNs in its earlier days #103 The Complete Blue Note Recordings of Albert Ammons and Meade Lux Lewis (2 CDs or 3 LPs) #108 The Complete Recordings of The Port of Harlem Jazzmen (1 LP) #109 The Complete Edmond Hall/James P. Johnson/Sidney De Paris/Vic Dickenson Blue Note Sessions (4 CDs or 6 LPs) #110 The Complete Blue Note Recordings of Sidney Bechet (4 CDs or 6 LPs) #114 The Complete Art Hodes Blue Note Sessions (4 CDs or 5 LPs) #115 The Benny Morton/Jimmy Hamilton Blue Note Swingtets (1 LP) #119 The Pete Johnson/Earl Hines/Teddy Bunn Blue Note Sessions (1 LP) #132 The Complete Blue Note Recordings of George Lewis (3 CDs or 5 LPs) There were also the Ike Quebec and John Hardee sets, but I don't know if those would classify as "pre-Bop" or not! gregmo

Mosaic's Black and White label box set

He didn't say, but my guess is that the fact the release date is that far out might indicate they're still searching. gregmo -
Mosaic's Black and White label box set
gmonahan replied to ghost of miles's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
I mentioned this set in an email to Scott, and he answered that they're hoping for a November/December release date. The cynic in me says that means some time in 2022. gregmo -
My favorite so far! They'd be rich beyond the dreams of avarice! gregmo

I'm listening to disc 2 of this one. Great sound and selection so far! gregmo

Another Mosaic Armstrong to come out this August.
gmonahan replied to Hardbopjazz's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Mine arrived today, and I'm enjoying disc 2, listening to the rehearsal takes of "Mack the Knife." Some very fine Teagarden on the first couple of discs. I like how they've organized it, with the Singles on the first two discs and the rest devoted to the albums. I also like Riccardi's notes in the booklet so far (I read as I listen). Lots of interesting detail about Satch and the sessions, and he doesn't whitewash weaknesses. gregmo -
Which Jazz box set are you grooving to right now?
gmonahan replied to Cliff Englewood's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
I just queried Scott about it, he said "We'll look into it." That could mean they actually will look into it or be a polite brush off, i.e., not in our lifetime! gregmo -
Mmmmm--lookin' forward to hearin' me some Big T!! gregmo

It's Mosaic. I've ordered it. I'll be interested to see if they do that 60s Lee Morgan set. I still think a Lionel Hampton 40s big band set would sell. gregmo

It is a gas, and "Blue Horizon" may be the greatest clarinet blues performance on record. Ok, not may be. IS! Listening to a bit of Ellington with Dizzy:

Mosaic Sets but Especially Tina Brooks
gmonahan replied to Dan Gould's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Yeah, I go back to the Monk Blue Note set, but like Jim, money was a big factor in those days, so I didn't order the Tina Brooks set at the time. Once the cds came out, though, I got those and bagged a copy of the booklet from Mosaic to go with them. I've made up for it since, though the Brooks LP set is now one of the few Mosaic sets I don't have. gregmo -

Yep, same here. And more or less on time too. Will wonders never cease?! gregmo -
A very wise decision! gregmo

I was still furious Thursday that I hadn't invested in the damn Buddy Bolden set. gregmo gregmo

Palmer, by the way, wrote the "detail" notes for the Mosaic booklet. Michael Cuscuna himself wrote the introductory essay. gregmo
