  1. Now on disc 5 after a hiatus.
  2. Jeez, I leave for just THREE weeks on a trip.........!
  3. One doesn't hear jazz accordion very often, but Pete Jolly plays a lot of it here.
  4. Between $350 and $500. It's a valuable set.
  5. Just watched the movie for the first time recently. Sonny's playing on the soundtrack was a highlight!
  6. Nice Butterfield tuba on this one.
  7. I really liked that one. Viola Davis gives another oscar-worthy performance.
  8. That's very kind. I still remember the first time I heard him. I'd just bought this BYG LP (a French issue of some Savoy stuff). I put it on, and his trumpet just exploded out of the speakers of my old little portable stereo record player. I've been a fan ever since!
  9. My avatar speaks for me. Fats was truly fabulous.
  10. Yeah, that happened while I was in Europe. I came home with way too many new things!
  11. Yeah, not exactly Tony's favorite album!
  12. "Wave" is a tough song for any singer. Sinatra also struggled with that low note: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZIrNtAq-t8w But he did sing it at a better tempo!
  13. Dizzy is slightly off mike on this one, but still very fine.
  14. One of the few Bear Family sets I own, and a very good one!
  15. Wow--they sure are getting this one out in record time!
  16. Recently picked up "Curtis Fuller in New Orleans" on Progressive, which I'd never heard of. Looking forward to listening to it.
  17. I'm smiling at the notion of going right up to the guy and asking "Are you Neal Hefti?" That certainly took a little bit of journalistic chutzpah!! Thanks for the story!
  18. I agree with you, though there are nonetheless some nice moments on "Magic Touch." I think Tadd was trying to make some money with that one. I have to say Avid does a better job with these multiple album reissues than many other labels do. Meanwhile, some nice sound on this Japanese reissue:
