  1. What's more exciting than watching an ebay auction on TV? I'll lose much sleep in the next four days.
  2. Evan versus dave9199. It's always of great help to announce auctions in threads like this one.
  3. Couw, have you seen that Michel Petrucciani/Helge Schneider duet on TV some years ago. Schneider played drums, this was fun to watch. Damn, one of my friends started to immitate Schneider's silly voice some years ago and it became a habit - ANNOYING!
  4. German site/company: http://www.alphamusic.de/2643054.html They have the Mercury box for EUR 96.70 ($119.20). I have never ordered from them, I don't know about shipping cost to the U.S. (they do ship internationally).

  6. Quite impressive mouse-drawing.
  7. There's one post re burning speed, in the thread linked below, that sums it up quite nicely:
  8. I found the reviews on this site to be quite useful when I decided to buy a digital camera: http://www.dcresource.com/
  9. Michael, is it common practice for discographers to adopt mistakes made in liner notes like misnamed tune titles or misspelled names of artists without adding footnotes to provide the correct information? Sorry for going off topic.
  10. Thanks for putting your time and $ into this.

  12. And because the internet allegedly can't shatter offline class distinctions, there should be online class distinctions too? Drown in your think tank, Sonia!
  13. Sonia is aware that we're paying our ISPs, isn't she?
  14. Reminds me of this quote: "The secret to the sound is to drop the bass on the floor!"
  15. I'm in total agreement with Dan Gould and b3-er.
  16. Bill Crow's books "Jazz Anecdotes," "From Birdland To Broadway."
  17. I purchased Steely Dan's Gaucho on CD in 1985. It was my first CD purchase. It still looks and plays the same in 2004 as it did in 1985. Yes, nearly 20 years. However, an Ella songbook CD I purchased in the late 1980s is now clear. You can see straight through the clear plastic. There is no remaining digital code to produce sound or tracking on the CD. I keep it just because it's strange... but I'd rather have the sound back on the CD. Given where you live Wesbed, it must be humidity which caused the problem with the Ella CD. If it must be the humidity, why is the Steely Dan CD still playing? There are many factors which have to be taken into account.
  18. You can try that but it is not that easy. If you mark the value of a rare Mosaic 5CD set as "$30 (used CDs)" the customs may not notice the "fraud", but in doubt they can always ask the receipient for a proof of the value, which will then show that the set was auctioned for $250 ... Not necessarily. Moral issues aside, it shouldn't be difficult to load the auction page source code into an html editor, exchange the actual item number for an item number no longer in the ebay database, alter the price...
  19. A very practical way to archive music is to convert the wav into the lossless .shn format (which size is 50-70% of the original wav) and store it on hard disk. If my calculation is right, you can store over 500 hours of music in .shn format on a 160GB hard disk. Unlike with CD-Rs, it's also very easy to make backups.
