  1. It's probably a combination of those factors (OS, filesystem, different definitions -> (80 * 10^9)/1024^3 = 74.505805969 GB). Attached is the screenshot of an 80 GB hard disk's properties in my system. Total disk space 74.5 GB. Ah, whatever.
  2. No, that's not because of the OS (except for ca. 200 MB).
  3. ApproxNumberOfCDsOnPod = (1024 * 80) / x x...total size (in MB) of your average (runtime) CD encoded at your preferred bitrate. P.S.: Assuming the OS doesn't take away disk space.
  4. Now that I think of it, there's probably no "Nerve" CD out. I saw them in concert a couple of years ago where they played for about three hours (the crowd went nuts). Mayer is damn good - the youtube video doesn't do him justice.
  5. Jojo Mayer's "Nerve". http://youtube.com/watch?v=MUsUljsDBg8
  6. Yessss, it was about time for the Audio Team to chime in. I get good results when I burn a witch while the CD (no matter what genre) is being ripped with EAC. Shrink, if nothing else helps try burst mode. Burst mode grabs the audio data without synchronization.
  7. Fact? Sure, if you want to make a fool out of yourself then bring your observation to the programmer's attention.
  8. Something happened along the way what used to be happy was sad something happened along the way and yesterday was all we had. Cheers!
  9. It would be a tough message if you had left out the "often".
  10. Meanwhile on another webserver... A New Way To Buy Shoes Without The Husband Knowing ?
  11. A shrink that supports your shopping addiction. How cool is that.
  12. Personally, I'd throw out the shelves that are reserved for the soon to be amassed CD-Rs (the music will be stored on harddisk instead) and use that space for the computer (assuming a PC/shelf to HiFi distance of ~40ft). I understand that not everyone can be pragmatic about this when room design or the roommate set certain limits.
  13. Why do you say that? Or is it a goak? MG Max CD-R storage capacity 800 MB (= ridiculous), standalone recorders -> inflexible. A high quality sound card is a better investment.
  14. This is a music trivia/general small talk bulletin board that has plenty of room for people who come by twice to post about whatever they want to. At 0,0054794520547945205479452054794521 posts per day I have to wonder why one would even bother to discuss this.

  17. I'm very happy with firefox, and I'm seriously considering getting out of Office and also going that Linux route. The unknown is always scary though... Yes, try it. People seem to recommend Suse or Ubuntu to get started. For example download the latest Ubuntu release (CD Image), burn the image to CD-R, restart your PC and boot from CD. You can check the OS out without having to install it on your harddisk. http://www.ubuntu.com/products/GetUbuntu/d...direct=download (I'm using Ubuntu but I don't know which Linux distribution is the best/hippest/coolest/...) I still have a Windows partition because I can't get some of my old hardware devices to work under Linux (no Linux drivers and no wrappers for Windows drivers).
  18. Let's do a KDE versus Gnome flamewar sometime.
