Goooooooooooooooooooooooooool

Regarding Champions league, except for Madrid the favourites were underwhelming leaving some business to do on the second leg. Swiss side Basel lacked the ambition to really hurt Porto despite a fine counter attack goal in the 11th minute. -

Anybody saw the crazy match from last weekend between Leverkusen and Wolfsburg ? -
As usual am always late to parties, started watching the series being a Cohen Brothers fan was not sure if I should and whether I'd have the time.. Saw the first episode, must say I was enthralled by what I saw. You could see it as an hommage to the universe of the Cohens films not just a long version of one of their major film. From the first episode among the tip to other films, you obviously have Billy Bob Thornton's character who is playing the Javier Bardem's character from No country , in the blink you will miss it category , in one of the places we visit we see a poster for a special on white russians , anything else I miss ? Anyone else followed the series .

What live music are you going to see tonight?
Van Basten II replied to mikeweil's topic in Live Shows & Festivals
Saw thursday and friday two performances. Thursday Jean-Michel Pilc: piano Or Bareket: double bass Jerad Lippi : drums As great Pilc is, the fact it was less Jean-Michel Pilc trio than Pilc and his musicians made this more ok than great, his sideman truly work in a sideman fashion and the whole thing lacked the telepathy of Moutin and Hoenig, still a good evening of music mind you but with the likes of Pilc I expect nothing less than very very very good. Pilc did his usual rebranding of standards mixed with his improv and compositions but the fellows weren't able to lift it up to higher grounds whether it was by design or they couldn't more with them , not knowing Bareket and Lippi I'll you be the judge. Friday Jeff Lederer - saxophone Kirk Knuffke - cornet John Geggie - bass Matt Wilson - drums More of my idea of group music, a lot of fun was to be had listening to the always gregarious Wilson. Local musicians Joel Miller and Christine Jensen joined them for a few pieces, which led Miller and Lenderer to finger each other instrument during a piece, I'll let you imagine it ! Nice variety of music overall, some hebraic inspired tune, a beauiful arrangement of a Carter family piece , some Monk and of course a few compositions by the leader. Was. not familiar with Lederer quite a solid player , Geggie was his usual discreet himself bringing his "Ottawa sound" to the ensemble. Cornet player was less in evidence than the Lederer but showed to be more than a capable musician. The kind of evening you finish with a smile on your face. Unfotunately Atomic was the same night than Pilc so had to pick between them, considering how dead this town can be to attend concerts by out of town musicians, frustrating that two fine ensembles ended up playing the same evening . -

Considering they destroy every garbage bag put outside in my neighborhood and even gnaw the cover of my dustbin, count me out -
Considering the range of music called and labelled jazz , it needs way more more precision. Are they talking about Wynton, Brotzmann, Miles Kind of Blue period, Miles Bitches Brew period , Armstrong, Bechet, maybe they are talking about Norah ?

To make this cover even creepier, Carlos was mostly a singer whose main customer base were kids . -

That's why they don't want the women driving, it is already bad enough -
It's indeed always akward talking to musicians , it is a bit like talking to a beautiful girl you try to act in a way so they will like you but too many times you end up doing the opposite. Among the most approachable people I met among musicians is Hamid Drake and, I remember a very talkative Glen Hall once.. Locally Marianne Trudel is a sweetheart everytime I meet her.But overall as it was said people from jazz music are generally appreciative of people saluting their work as it is not like they have to go through a lineup of people wanting an autograph or so.
