Watched Rugby World Cup action, as the sport is rather hierarchised it's the usual suspects that qualified for the Quarters, uneven France showed their best side against England to have a date in a semi-final that will turn out to be an officious European championship against Wales who won against Ireland in what was a terrific match . On the other side of the bracket not sure that Australia was deserving of a win against the defending champs but at the end of the day they will meet the hosts the All Blacks who had a tougher time than the score indicates against a good defensive side in Argentina.

Was going to write about this one, however the offer is mostly good for people on the old continent as they charge shipping fees of 14 Euros to send it here Thought that Amazon.com was out of whack with their shipping fees but these guys are worse.

What live music are you going to see tonight?
Van Basten II replied to mikeweil's topic in Live Shows & Festivals
Time to play catch-up saw two weeks ago Wilco with opening act none other than Nick Lowe. Last weekend saw a double act first in a dute Ballake Sissoko on Kora with cellist Vincent Segal , tremendous set followed by singer Mamani Keita, unfortunately not as tremendous. Yesterday saw local pianist Yves Léveillé with his quartet plus with a guest the very fine Yannick Rieu. Tonight going to see Boubacar Traore. Good times. -
Started watching the Bills-Patriots game, when the score turned out to be 21-0 New England, elected to do something else thinking this was turning into a rout ... Wooooops

Are there any box bargains currently available?
Van Basten II replied to GA Russell's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Amazon UK sells it for 27 Pounds which is even a better deal, thanks for the tip. Hoping for a cheaper version of The Smiths to come out. -

Great game between Valencia and Barcelona for about 70 minutes the hosts were outplaying the Catalan side , They did falter down the stretch to manage to hold on to a tie. -
The 100 cd set Russian pianist set is back at 60 Euros at Amazon France.

Did enjoy them, hope they'll stick to their word and not make a comeback 5 or 10 years from now.

Once that said, must say in terms of creepy classless characters Mayweather may be in a league of his own

Boxing PPV Here's a rarity, an undercard loaded with interesting competitive entertaining fights, especially the Morales-Cano bloodshed. Regarding the Mayweather-Ortiz, well we already knew from the Maidana fight that Ortiz was not very strong in terms of mental resistance but tonight he outdid himself by being a Darwin award worthy in the dumbest way to lose a main event since Mike Tyson's ear biting incident. Think of it, he got knocked out because he was too busy trying to give a hug to his opponent !!!!

Wynton Marsalis & Eric Clapton Play The Blues

Sometimes their management do them after the end of their lives...expect volume 2 sometime mid century. Can we throw in Xmas discs and 8 disc box sets where 7 discs are different mixes of disc 1? Deal. -
Wynton Marsalis & Eric Clapton Play The Blues

I read the whole not because I really cared that much about the original subject but because I was wondering how it ended up on a discussion about freakin' Don Rickles. Regarding the original subject, what is it with all those duets that popular artists do near the end of their career, should be a law prohibiting this because most of them are either crap or at best forgettable. -
Black Saint/Soul Note Box Sets
Van Basten II replied to romualdo's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
David Murray fan, and John Zorn fan, Wadada Leo Smith fan, Miles Davis fan, Charles Mingus fan... etc... Many thanks for your answer: probably you are right. I don't have the original vinyl, but in the first CD reissue, mastering volume is a bit different and for that reason Harris seems to be more present in the record. Anyway, I think that this idea from CAM jazz is good: a cheap form to have a great part of last seventies and eighties Jazz. It deserves the buying, although you have any of the CD included in each box. Any bet about the next bunch of boxes? Greets! Welcome aboard , would love the see the Trovesis or the Abrams come out but they are a lot of ways they can go. -

Van Basten II replied to mikeweil's topic in Live Shows & Festivals
They are going to be in DC on the 18th, but alas, I am going to see John Butcher and Keith Rowe that night. I did see the Angelica Sanchez Quintet I think a year ago at An Die Musik in Baltimore. Very good. If there are two sets, stay for the 2nd. Don't know Angelica Sanchez but she has a great bunch of sidemen, wish I could attend Saw last night Matana Roberts in solo followed by Matthew Shipp in the same format, both strong solid sets but the pianist stole the evening. -

If I remember at the same time USA Today created their Baseball weekly at almost the same time than The National started.

Watched it saw also Dortmund-Arsenal. Sloppy defense for Barca costed them, still weird to see a team dominate about 88 minutes of the game ending up with a draw. Dortmund deserved at least a draw. Also considering the level of the group where Barca and Milan are competing made the game a bit less important . -
