Heres a good one. I don't even own it!! But still I think my favorite track is All Blues. I don't have it, but I HAVE listened to it!
-
Pulled the plug on the Tristano last night. I am not gonna make the "Ellington mistake" again!

I've one of those in the fridge right now. got it for Miranda, but hence she's been really sick this week...so I think I might actually drink it. Even though it's only 9:30 AM, I think it might actually help my sluggish mood this morning!

or maybe Issac Hayes?

...which as generalized a statement as Miles only playing slow ones.

.J. Jackson, One Of MTV's First VJs Dies At Age 62

Damn, I had no idea he was the voice in the movie Car Wash. That and the early days of MTV bring back great memories!! -
That was a good pick up for Oakland. This gives them a superb triple threat 1b/DH platoon situation with Hatteberg and Durazo and bolsters a lineup that has been pretty soft offensively in the past few years. Of course the continued good health of Jermaine Dye makes this team a better offensive arsenal than they have in the past sevral years. and the starting rotation..well, enough said!

Standard alphabetical system here. Jazz on one shelf, Rock, blues, folk/bluegrass on another and the classical cds (of which I have like 5 or 6) after all of that. Right now I'm in a bit of dissarray, just the stuff I have gotten in the last 2 or 3 months are scattered all around. I need to find new storage ideas, though my girlfriend isnt bugging me to find a better place for them right now, so they will remain scattered until I find a better solution.

Impulse is part of Verve, which is part of Universal...these are retailing for $11.99 at a lot of shops nowadays.
-
The Berekely store has an upstairs Classical room. Funny thing is, in my 10+ years of shopping there, I have NEVER been in that room. Maybe I'll correct that mistake today!
-
I just wonder when they are gonna get around to remastering Future Games and Bare Trees!!!
-
The Tristano set is still in the "Running Low" category...it's a must have in my opinion. I only wish next Friday could be today! (pay day)

There are a few Streetlight's in the City... I know of one on Market near Castro and one on 24th Street, I believe which is in the Now Valley district...you can't miss it, its wedged in between the Castro and the Mission! I don't think Amoeba is getting rid of its jazz section completely...they might just be moving into another part of the store. However the way it has been set up, its in the quiet part of the store so you can browse the rack and racks of vinyl and cd's without the crunch they have in the Hip Hop section or the Pop sections. But the place is massive, its in what used to be the Haight Street bowling alley, so you can imagine the size. The Hollywood store is even larger. I almost pooped my pants when I first walked in. You can also check out Rasputins records...they have a store right by the Virgin megastore off Market street downtown.

I don't want to step on anyones toes here, but Jimmy should feel damn lucky that people will still pay to see the man play. All of the excuses in the world don't justify his being abusive and berating his to audiences. Yes he is a genious, yes he is a legend but none of that excuses his behavior. I saw the man play Yoshis a few years back, and he yelled something about "this is only for the fuckin money". Thats not a very apropriate way to act towards a paying audience in my opinion.

I have it..or should say I HAD it...Bad News and the Dangerous Brothers...I think my ex roommate might have snaked them from me. Yes, Father Ted is slowly taking over from the Young Ones as my favotire BritCom. DRINK!!! One of my favorite sections from Bad News is when Rik Mayall is talking to his mom on the phone about returning some overdue library books for him and when he realizes the camera is on him he switches into Rock Star mode... "Blairs' Origins of Feudal Brittan....Quo, Motorhead, Uriah Heep, and loads of bands...and you can quote me on that" -

Worth every damn cent!! Bambi is my favorite episode, though its pretty tough to really pin down less than 6 of them which are my favorites. I like the Bottom pilot as well...that whole series is out on DVD as well. Rik Mayall and Adrian Edmonson also did a bit on a series called the Dangerous Brothers...they are only 5 minute segements, but they are as funny as hell and it you think moments on the Young Ones are violent, wait till ya see this. Also...they guys had another series called "The Comic Strip" all the YO's are on these exept for the guy who plays Mike and they did two episodes devoted to the fictional Heavy Metal band called "Bad News" which is a great companion to Spinal Tap and almost as funny! "Corn flakes, corn flakes, corn flakes, etc." -
Small wonder that Tower went belly up!

I'll be that generous person. 90125 was the first album I ever purchased, so naturally I have a soft spot for it, but you can say that after that, they are a different band. But I still love that album as much as I did when I was a kid. I used to hang out at my local mall store and stare at the covers of Fragile and Topographic for hours after school and I always wondered what they sounded like, but I was afraid of them, they looked so imposing with the futuristic landscapes and "mountans coming out of the skies". I had no clue what they sounded like, though I had some idea. I lost touch with Yes over the years, having an inceasingly difficult time with Jon Anderson's Metaphysical (read:bullshit) meanderings, that I forgot about the truly awe inspiring tunes they created. Maybe thats why Drama became my favorite album!

Don Henley is precisely the sort of person to whom Neil Young once wrote the following lyric..."I hate them worse than houses and I'll kill them in their cars". ...and I echo that sentiment.

Allowing Kurt Lundvall to record live cd's at the Village Vanguard! No seriously...I think Blue Note takes a risk with every album it releases. There are enough people out there, let alone us who posts here and on the Blue Note message board who scrutinise its every move. Sure we are going to be hard on some of its choices, but I would say more often than not, BN does a pretty good job trying to satiate everyones interests, as well as competing with the rest of the marketplace.
