  1. Thanks...it was the .info link that was not working for me. Bookmarks have been updated. I always tend to call websites "dot com's" just like I always tend to call cd's albums and dvd's videos...tisseus are always kleenex...don't give me no hand me down world, I got one already!
  2. I have been trying to access alan's site for the past few weeks and...nothing? Whats the sketch here, eh?
  3. I'm not quite sure I am following you on this sentiment. If you mean this movie is just the kind of antidote for the kind of President we now currently have, then this country needs more films like this, I am with you. But if you are indeed implying what I think you are implying then I have to ask you why you think this statement is true. I thought the film was a lot of fun and gets better with each successive viewing.

I saw them all except Basra today...I thought there was one missing becuase I knew I was gonna set three aside for myself...anyways, maybe it comes late or maybe... NAH!!
  5. Testament tot he staying power of The Real McCoy...Go see any McCoy tyner concert and you can hear at least two tunes from it. Go to a two night run and he's play the whole album. First time I saw him, he opened with Passion Dance. That was all I needed. One the best musical performances I have ever seen.
  6. Takin' Off...it was re(mc)mastered in 1995 or 96.
  7. Damn...him and Ossie Davis on the same day... He was also great as Mr. Big in "I'm Gonna Get You, Sucka" "Lot's of other big stars have played villans in Blaxploitation films" that and putting Delta on Double Secret Probabtion...great stuff!
  8. Ah-ha...so maybe if you could post the last two digits of the catalog numbers we can play a fun game of guess the title!
  9. It does, at least once during the scene in the hotel room with Margie when he starts singing Hit the Road Jack, the scene then intercuts with Foxx lipsynching the rest of the tune live in performance.
  10. Two things my ex and my current both have in common... They both hate The Big Lebowski AND Steely Dan! Whats a guy to do here?
  11. LET'S GO A'S LET'S GO A'S LET'S GO A'S LET'S GO A'S LET'S GO A'S LET'S GO A'S LET'S GO A'S LET'S GO A'S sorry, I couldn't help myself. I swear, this team gets less love than the Twins...Crikey!
  12. The show was actually at the University of Maine, what town is that in? I forget. Anyways, I was staying just by North of Bangor, where my girlfriends parents own a house up on Pushaw Lake. Yes it was a long way to go, but it wasn't planned, he just happened to be there when I was!
  13. Unfortunately the passes didn't come in the mail until the day after the show! Anyways, the show was fantsatic, James Kammack (?) on bass and Idris on drums. The way Ahmad pulled the trio through each tune was simply a joy to watch, and his control of dynamics is something I had never seen done quite as eloquently. The trio did two pretty decently long sets before an enthusiastic crowd. I aint none too good at describing music, but I really really, really, really REALLY loved this show. One of the things Jamal does extremely well, aside from the aforementioned, is take things to a level in which the band could, given the chance, get lost in the improvisation, he brings them back down to earth and a seemingly effortless way. Even the drum solos were note perfect. Even Kammack, whom I had never seen or heard before but heard of, was seamless in the transitions pulled out all kinds of crazy double stops, allowing Ahmad and Idris to interact, while telling stories of his own. Does this make any kind of sense? I had a very nice week in Maine, 10 days actually, but I am OOHHH so glad to be back home!
  14. About damn time!! Anyone who has heard available bootlegs from the Petit and Grand Wazoo tours, know full well that even a 50 minute cd is going to be a triumph!!
  15. Great thread. I have put some nasty ass things in my mouth, potted meat (dad used to spread this on sammiches back when I was a kid, I am sure there is a full unopened can in the dark recesses of my parents pantry), a pizza in Prague, sushi anywhere, but nothing can top my adventure in an Brittish pub one chilly rain soaked day at the Stratford Shakespeare Festival 1994. We had an hour long break in between a marathon day at the festival, the matinee showing was Midsummer Nights Dream, and following intermission, we got Macbeth and something else, Twth Night maybe, it was long ago. Anywhay, a group of about 5 or 6 of us found this little pub nearby and stopped in for lunch. If I had been thinking clearly I would have grabbed some bangers and mash, or shepperds pie, something familliar. Instead I ordered the Steak and Kidney Pie, the pubs special that day. The pull of the whole thing was that the ingedients were marinated in a sauce based of Guinness, the whole soup packaged in a neat pot pie shaped confection. My order was met with some derision from the crowd as I assured them this would be delicious. So lunch comes and we all dig in, the crowd watched in abayence as I plunged my fork into the flaky brown crust, The room was punctured with the aroma of freshly cooked steak andkidneys. Folks, I dunno if you have ever dared eat kidney, but it felt and tasted like sticking a boiled nerf football into my mouth. I maybe took two more bites, the meat was grisly. My vegtables tasted great, so did my pints, but the steak and kidney pie was a nightmare. I ate a Mars bar and sat thru another 5 hours of shakespeare in the cold wet night of Southwest England
  16. The albums from the mid 70's are slightly more jazzy than the early albums. Check out Still Life or Godbluff. The basic instrumentation is Keys (organ and electric piano) saxophones and drums. And of course Peter Hammill's vocals, which can take some time to get used to if you arent ready for them. Still Life might be the best place to start, it eases into the overall sound of the band, from quiet to loud over a few songs and then back again. Of course, I am a huge fan and have the Box Set and most of Peter Hammill's solo albums!!
  17. You just can't beat the comforts of home, saying that the job market, being as unstable as it is right now for most of us, could be the one major roadblock keeping you in Philly. Does Gail think she will have a good chance finding employment in Seattle? If so, I say, get back to where you once belonged...ASAP! Having said that, my relationship is on the skids for similar reasons. Miranda was raised ont he East Coast, and after a time away, both her brother and his family and her parents (they all lived in Portland, OR) relocated bakc to the East Coast, her borhter and his family to Virginia, parents to Portland, ME. She is desperately unhappy living her away from her family and friends, and I fell bad that the only thing keeping her here is me. I took some time away fromt he Bay Area, born and raised here, and when I returned I felt that I never wanted to live far from home again. Family is important to both of us, and her peace and happiness resluts in being closer to her family and friends. Freinds can change though, but family dosen't. Go to Seattle!
  18. I've been waiting very patiently for the last 15 years or so for this to come out on cd. Good to see the playlist getting doubled up like this. An entire disk full of Adrian Belew twang-bar!! YIPPEEE

    Blue Note SUCKS!!!!!

You guys are weird. That warning is now on nearly every single CD that is being produced. This is the kind of thing that happens when a Bush gets elected intot he White House!
  21. Afaik, there were never any official "charges" levied against Yusef Islam, directly relating to his comments on the fatwah placed upon Salman Rushdie. In a tv appearance he was asked wether or not he agreed with the fatwah, but he merely only inadvertently mistakenly refrenced the Qu'ran. In his defence he said that he was quite naive about the issue at the time and apologized for his statements. I disgree with the "nut" tag being placed upon him here. Just because one aligns himself with a religion, rejects a former notion or belief, and lives his life according to what he has dicovered within that school of thought, does not make one a religious fanatic, and most certainly not, a nut.
  22. As John McLaughlin would say...and I quote... 'WRONG...Next Topic"
  23. Or the Red Sox!!
  24. Hey guys...listening to Cookers right now and IMHO the title accurately describes the content of the music. I really don't get why this set is so derided. This is, to me at least how a live gig should sound, everyone stretching out and jamming their arses off. I really enjoy the type of beats employed by the ensemble, the pseudo-calypso rhythm performed in such a non-Harry Belafonte type fashion. It's workin for me on a few different levels. I love to hear the crowd get into it and chant and cheer the guys on as they play. Mabern is ripping it up on this version of Breaking Point as we speak!!!
  25. There is another similar joke, in form, about Jimmy Buffett dying and being led to his house by God. Jimmy's place is a little shack on the beach, and he notices a big mansion on the mountainside with Grateful Dead banners and rainbow colored dancing bears and Jimmy says to God, I get this little shack and Jerry Garcia gets a mansion on the hill and God says, "That's not Jerry's house, that's my house"!
