  1. Actually, it went from "Last Chance" (a higher level of alert than "Running Low") to sold out in eight days, FWIW, but it still went relatively quickly. ← From my Father's Day email from Mosaid of only two days ago: "RUNNING LOW/LAST CHANCE We have just added The Complete Blue Note Donald Byrd/Pepper Adams Studio Sessions to our Running Low category. "
  2. Tried to call today and missed out
  3. From woodyshaw.com: "Stepping Stones - to be re-released July 26, 2005 on CD - contains three new tracks, samples of which may be heard at: www.woodyshaw.com/index2.htm. "It Call Comes Back to You" has not been kept, but this recording will thoroughly satisfy any dedicated Woody Shaw fan." Setlist and a peek at the new cover can be found at: http://www.woodyshaw.com/index2.htm Great news for us Woody fans although it's a little disappointing that "It Call Comes Back to You" has been omitted. I guess it gives me reason to keep my LP and CDR copy.
  4. Just tried to order a copy and was advised it's already sold out. Went from running low to sold out in only two days.
  5. Yes, the Barber is $20
  6. I thought Drew was Fri. night. PS-You know which one I'm going to.
  7. I just caught him last week at Birdland in NYC while up there on business. He was great but his long-time pianist stole the show. Took 7 of my co-workers (who are not jazzaholics) and most of them were equally impressed.
  8. Yeah, I do wish the packaging was a bit smaller ala the Blue Note versions of the Getz Roost or Nichols Blue Note sets. Hopefully the 4 CD Mulligan set will utililize a slimline double jewel case or two.
  9. Unless you frequent boards such as Organissimo, it's difficult to discover new music/artist without some access to radio. Jazz radio down here is rather minimal but by listening to what was available, I discovered both Don Pullen and Horace Tapscott, now two of my favorite musicians, as well as countless other musicans and albums. Thank you Len Pace and WLRN!
  10. He opened with a Trane tune when I saw him. Recall it was from JC's Atlantic era but don't remember the exact tune.
  11. Don't forget Mingus Moves. That's my fave of the Mingus albums withn that band.
  12. I saw him with John Hicks this summer while in San Francisco. He's great live. That's good to hear, David. I've never seen him before so I'm looking forward to it! Mark Assuming the venue is small enough, he'll hang out between sets, selling his latest CD and signing autographs. I talked to him a short time between sets at Yoshi's.
  13. A Select with 4 CDs? Can this be right? The exception proves the rule... I still have to see it to believe it. I seem to recall they marketed this series as only going to be 3 discs. PS-Not that I'm complaining.

  15. I saw him with John Hicks this summer while in San Francisco. He's great live.
  16. Are you talking about the Interplay disc? I love that! (And if anyone's curious, I happen to have a CDR of it available; just PM me...) I've got that one as well. Real nice disc. Tom Peron is listed as the co-leader with Spangler.
  17. Thanks for the tip on her website. Just ordered 5 discs, including three from her limited edition offerings.
  18. I think you'll be happy with it Ronald.
  19. Here's a prior thread on it: http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php?showtopic=8979 The set is very enjoyable.
  20. Me too. Was just there last week.
  21. I saw Sullivan this past Friday night at the Hollywood Jazz Fest. He led what was called the South Florida Jazz Collective, which featured a number of local musicians, most prominantly he and Turk Mauro. Switched off between sax, trumpet and percussion. I believe he spends most of his time in South Florida.
  22. Last night saw the Mingus Big Band at the Iridium with long-time net buddy Ronald Lyles. First time we've actually met in person.
  23. I just listened to some samples at AMG. From what I heard it sounds to be one of the more bizarre takes on Monk I've heard. Not acquinted with Stetch. Is this album a good place to start?
