Here is another one from Verve (original on Norgran label) which I played recently. Again he has selected nice melodies.
-Trio one with Max Roach
- Trio 2 with Art Blaley
Verve UMV 2571 [Japan 1981] - rec. 1954 & 1955(?)
Roberta had an interesting european tour. She did also a nice album with the Pratt Brothers big band
Here is an example from her european tour. Have recorded some of her appearances from radio.
💗 👍 Nice compilation ----> rustic hop *****
Among the many arrangements for other artists (Fifth Dimension, Shorty Rogers, The Kenton Orchestra a.o.) this one is a favorite of mine
The Four Freshmen " The Swingers"
On one of th Berlin Jazz Festivals (1985) there was a a special Topic: The big horns (all bariton players).
- Nick Brignola
- Ronnie Cuber
- Cecil Payne
Have it on tape and must search it. Very interesting live event.
Bill did not arrange for the jazz scene alone but was sucessful also on pop and rock arranging for groups. He had a broad feeling for music and melodies. Have most of his works (official & unofficial) and can only say I like everything I hear from him.
Yes do agree what you say. Good coverart is very important for me too but seldom seen these days. I may refer to DSM on CLEF/NORGRAN & Verve.
The music inside is excellent.
