  1. Hopefully you've found it in the meantime? Its on a Giant Steps CD GSCR 032 and contains also the funny episode for that You Tube comic "Three little Bops" with Stan Freberg.
  2. Correct. Shorty Rogers, Bud Shank, Bob Cooper,Art Pepper,Shelly Manne, Curtis Counce, Conte Candoli, Lee Konitz,Frank Rosdolino, Maynard Ferguson, you name them and they all did succeed in in way or the other with their own groups and orchestras (Sh. Rogers / M. Ferguson). Most of these artist´s are in my collection. A good source is this one By Terry Vosbein with all tracks listed (not the albums however) http://allthingskenton.com/table_of_contents/recordings/mosaic/holman_russo/
  3. May I join as "newbie" to the "I like Kenton family" if there is one. I have the Sparke book and also the complete Capitol recordings book. I would divide the Kento Era in 3 periods: the early Kenton up to the late 1940s, the middle Kenton up to the end of 1960s and the rest. He was called "The restless searcher" but obviously never found what he was searching. When he started the "Neophonic thing" he lost me. Have about 110 of his recordings and like most the middle part starting with his 1952 "Kenton Presents" up to the a bit commercial "The stage door swings". Inbetween we have the real jewels "New Concepts Of Artistry in Rhythm" , "Cuban Fire" & "Contemporary Concepts". Also "Kenton in Sweden" from 1956 belongs to that period I prefer from his complete work. Other members may haver different preferences. One of the real highlights i listened recently is the track Art Pepper on "Kenton presents". Can also recomment the PAUSA LP PR 9016: "Shorty Rogers" - 14 historic arrangements & performances with Stan Kenton / June Christy/ The Giants featuring Art Pepper. Much of the color and sound of the Kenton Orchestra was heavy influenced by the arrangers as Rugulo, Holman,Russo, Stan himself and later Dee Barton. An interesting series on his own Creative World label is the series "By Request!" which compiles a lot of tracks which never appeared on the LP's.
  4. That could be a task for all the members here with some Information from their own recording. I think there will be a lot to list. Thanks

  6. Have most of their releases. Can send pictures. Some on vinyl and some on CD/CD-r incl. unofficial releases.
  7. I doubt that very much. Same is with the "DOXY" vinylyls of russian origin. Havent seen a copyright or a license printed on any of their reissues. They dont have even an own logo (SCR) printed on the disc labels but only the original labels. Thats quite irritating. The pressings are fine but I dont think they do pay a cent for using the content. Its obviouslyx public domain material acc the european copyrights. Heaven knows where their source for the reissued material is. Have tried to start a thread at Discogs to clear the matter. IMO the "iron is too hot" so noone dit bite.
  8. Yes you are correct. Have a Jasmin vinyl reissue myself which has very good playback sound. Have also looked up at Discogs but they do list only LP's. Here is my copy.
  9. Thanks for the Info. Have several nonet albums by lee Konitz. Have to find out if this is available in Europe

  12. Thanks. That was very helpfull. I am also a Down Beat collector and some other magazines (jazz only) too. So I posted there a request.
  13. I'm living in Germany and have collected Down Beat from 1957 to 2013 (missing about 5 to 7 single copies). Have also some duplicated for trading. Woud like to get in touch with other collectors for the missing copies. Have got some from ebay but the prices + postager are really a pain in the...... W.B.
  14. Thanks for your Informations. Yes it is correct to argue this book is not a cover art book per se. But to create a new thread for books just on the border line (jazz & other topics dealing with jazz) looks a bit bueraucratic to me. I dont know how the toleration here is. Is there a special thread for such Items here in the forums? BTW I have most of my cover art books from OLMS, Switzerland and some pocket editions from Beck, Munich (Jazz is Beck) so you might know this source.
  15. Yes can agree to that b) the 2 volumes Not mentioned yet the biggest volume from Taschen-Verlag "Jazzlife" a huge coffetable book by William Claxton & the late german jazzcritic J.E. Berend. Cant do scans on a normal scanner so I have to try to do some fotos for displaying here. Here are 2 pictures:
  16. Beside collecting records I am also a fan of cover art books. This started with the discovery cover art of David Stone Martin on Down Beat Magazine & on JATP & Norman Granz LP's and step by step I discovered other great artists as Jim Flora and/or some photographers as Claxton. These books can be very expensive but al least you can find the covers of some long oop vinyls. There exists also a great book about movie posters and sound track records. Any fans here in that forum?
  17. Its on my recent order list. See above my complete Getz collection is listed as Getz fan # 1!
  18. Thanks !! For all the cover pix look here: https://forums.stevehoffman.tv/threads/bob-florence-limited-edition-big-band-orchestra.828073/ Would be interesting to work on a compilation of his arrangements but thats a complete other project and takes time.

  20. Nice to read that someone likes the coverart of Jim Flora. I have bought all 4 of his coverart books . His drawings are as good as the music and SF ist just exact the topic for his drawings. 23. Thank Mr. E for the welcome. Have just submitted my Getz collection from my Paradox database  and listened to that  new Getz You Tube clip with that wide separated Stereo effect what ever there happened at the recording session. Anyway I have it on my wantlist. Cant get enough Getz.

    See you

    W

  24. Well I'm a newbie her and look for interesting topics. The >Bob Florence Limited Edition is one of them Another one is Stan Getz. Probably it is not well known that Bob had a collaboration with a german Radio Big Band (= the HR Big Band ) and the studio productions were broadcasted and I did record these among others for my own collection. Was also in touch via mail with Bob ad tried to get him a gig at the german Radio station WDR. Bud this did not succed because they were heavy involved with Bill Holman at that time as temporary leader of the WDR Big Band playing & rehearshin Bill's own projects.
