  1. Hi Everyone We learned from a friend in NYC that Mike Longo, Dizzy Gillespie's longtime pianist / music director, passed away this morning. Mike was infected with Covid-19 after performing with his big band at a benefit concert a week or so ago. He turned 81 on March 19. Mike remained active in the music business to the end, and will be greatly missed by fans and friends in the U.S. and around the world. Played in memoriam here at "Jazzcorner's" place
  2. My Liberty LPR 3045 [FSR reissue 1984] has also 8 tracks. Red Mitchell is the bass player. Rumsey wrote the liner notes. Cover says" Lighthouse Series Vol one. Vol two is Liberty LRP 3051 " Tenors Head-On with Bill Perkins & Richie Kamuca Vol three is Liberty LRP 3064 " Drummin' The Blues with Max Roach & Stan Levey The label Contemporary has also issued recordings in a series "Lighthouse ". Have to review my stock for this one.

  6. Chico Hamilton recorded the Ellington Suite twice. First in August 1958 (with Eric Dolphy), again in January 1959 (with different musicians).
