  5. A few of us saw Art Blakey's Keystone Korner Holiday Jazz Festival celebrations back in the day(late 70's--I have Dec.31,1979)-- The band I saw: Eddie Henderson, Jackie McLean,Billy Harper, Curtis Fuller, Cedar Walton, Dennis Irwin, Airto & Art Blakey. More guesting with Valerie Ponomarev, David Schnitter, Bobby Watson & James Williams
  6. The story I've heard is that Rocky Boyd was living in Boston. Came home to find some laced brownies in the fridge(of a famous pianist), but didn't know they were laced(with LSD possibly) and ate the entire tray. Story was that's when he disappeared. But also heard a few years later he turned up in Basie's or Duke's sax section--so who knows Played a gig with Jimmy Cobb recently & he still sounds amazing! Bebopper or not!
  7. Oh Thank you! Man, he had the Fats thing down back then! Just not as upper register... Sounds like Dwayne Clemons
  8. On Dexter Gordon's Chronological Classics 1947-52', who plays Trumpet on the live cut 'Steeplechase"? It could be Fats, but my fantasy is that this is the best recording of Little Benny Harris Who is it? Thank you!
  9. What a sad loss Huge loss...
  10. Fair enough-Guess I'm out here alone. Pat Zimmerli was a very interesting tenor player. Heard him a lot in Jeff Williams Quintet alongside Tim Ries(& Kevin Hays). So everybody hates his writing now(here); have you heard his knotty earlier writing style? I have 2 CDs from 1998-2000, "Expansion" and "Twelve Sacred Dances". These feature quartets with Ben Monder, Ethan Iverson, John Hollenbeck... Challenging listens! Sorry to stand up for fellow musicians
  11. I often find you mean spirited; only your opinion, don't forget--no matter your associations with them decades ago or your own cranky beliefs in your own superior music.
  12. I think Tadd sounds amazing on The Lost Sessions-- I found it amazing how different he sounds from earlier recordings; very quirky!
  13. Anyone receive and listen yet???
  14. Jacked to finally hear this!!! I love Fru
  15. Logan Richardson seems quite popular these days. I like Myron Walden. Also like Jaleel Shaw too. Also John O'Gallagher is an impressive player to me. Quite a few smokin' young alto students @Berklee & NEC these days I like Lund and have a few of his CDs...
