  1. I wont buy any of these - have them as TOCJ (Chambers - good one, in my opinion!), Conn (Quebec & Davis), part of a Mosaic (Morgan) and the Jordan I have from an Italian Blue Note Magazine issue. That Jordan is a hell of a fine album, by the way! Dizzy Reece is great on it, as is Stanley Turrentine!

Still a rather underwhelming bunch, to me...

The only ones I have from this bunch are Bass on Top and Morgan Vol. 3. This is the most exciting RVG batch since I started buying them about three years ago.

  2. All cds are $6, shipping included. Please inquire about international rates. All payments by Paypal. PM if interested.

  3. The Heavyweight Champion. Love that set. The discs are nicely contained in sturdy digipaks, the booklet is easy to read and well constructed, plus there's the cool tape reel box for the bonus disc. It's nice to handle a set that doesn't seem fragile, one that's actually USABLE and a booklet you can read, unlike the Miles metal boxes.

I know some people don't like them, but I love the packaging of the Columbia Miles Davis box sets. I find it easy to get to the disks and the booklet, and like that they always stay together.

The kind I most dislike are the Mosaics that are unnecessarily large and bulky.

  4. To me it's a very disappointing list. Although there are great titles, I have them all happily on JRVG's, for the first time, I have zero to purchase from these - and since I'm a loyal diehard, that must surely spell trouble for BN as there are likely lots of other regulars in the same boat.

Too bad, IMO it's a missed opportunity - there are still lots of great titles not yet given the RVG treatment in Japan either - Elvin Jones, Bobby Hutcherson, Ornette, later Turrentine, Tyner, Rivers and many others.

And since I won't be buying - and I'm sure others who already have RVG's of these - that doesn't help get to the numbers needed to continue the series.

Cuscuna has broken the cardinal rule of the RVG series in the last several years - always have some titles never before RVG'd.

Oh well - thankfully the Prestige RVG series is continuing with lots of great stuff given RVG's sound for the first time!

Speak for yourself. In the last few batches I've only found one or two that interested me, but almost all of these interest me because I've been waiting for them to be remastered domestically. The only one I have is Bass on Top. I'm very, very happy with this list.

  5. I have this set and would say it's definitely not essential music, and if someone isn't a real huge Coltrane fan they have no reason to need it. I would return it if I were in your position.

As for me, I have my Coltrane phases. December tends to be my Coltrane month, when that's all I want to listen to (and I prefer the later Coltrane.) During the summer I never listen to Coltrane.
