  1. Lots of thoughtful remarks regarding a possible John Carter Roots set. When I became interested in this music a few years ago, I decided to hunt down the CD versions of the Roots set (and the Moers releases as well). Although I generally prefer records, I was skeptical whether I would be able to find the full set in acceptable condition (this music requires quiet vinyl in my opinion). It took me at least a year to collect the full set and I paid a fortune, certainly much more than the price of a regular Mosaic set. There must be others like me who are priced out of the market or simply want a pristine set. I think the set would sell well, in particular once people realize what they have missed. While I meanwhile have a pretty complete John Carter collection, I still would buy a Mosaic set for the documentation alone.
  2. Spinning Dwight Trible on Gondwana Records tonight: Inspirations (2017) and Colors (2018). The latter includes a beautiful version of "The Creator has a Master Plan."
  3. John Carter's 5 CD set "Roots and Folklore: Episodes in the Development of American Folk Music" featuring Bobby Bradford. Deserves much wider recognition.
  4. Very nice. I think I can decipher Nat Adderley and Dick Hyman.
  5. Still hunting the complete Woody Shaw Muse Sessions (at less than current ebay prices).
  6. Thanks, I ordered this one. Will remind me of my travels to Marrakech a few years earlier (by Interrail).
  7. In my opinion, the research behind these releases: Sourcing the original material, recovering the order of recordings, documenting each session in detail (who, when, where...; often a complete discography for a certain artist and label) in the enclosed booklets, requesting extensive comments (far beyond traditional "liner notes") from experts, sourcing photographs from the recording sessions. Most of the time, the mastering is also very good. Do yourself a favor and try a set. You won't be disappointed.
  8. Reviving an old thread with a photo of Peter Brotzmann in my listening room. I acquired this photo from Melbourne photographer Tobias Titz, who shot it on large format Polaroid when Peter Brotzmann was visiting Melbourne a few years ago. I had it professionally framed behind anti-reflective glass. I like this photo a lot. It shows the serious person I have seen in concert.
  9. with Kenny Barron, Charlie Haden, Ben Riley, Howard Johnson and James Newton.
  10. From the same trio: Strollin' (Enja, 1986) This was recorded in my home town at a time when I visited lots of concerts as a teenager. Unfortunately, I had a different taste then. Instead of attending this concert, I went to see... Chris de Burgh a few days earlier. I will never forgive myself.
  11. Crystal Bells (Igloo, 1983)
  12. Nice light.
  13. John Carter and Bobby Bradford on Emanem
  14. Very good! Recorded for German state-owned radio, well known for having great engineers and recording equipment.
  15. I guess the new 1979 recording was supposed to be vol. 2 but someone messed it up during production. There were misprints before: The LP version of the 1982 recording lists the bonus track "Diane" as the second track on the C side (both on the cover and on the record's center label). It actually is the first track on the D side. Also wrong on discogs etc. On the other hand, Woody announces the last track on the D side as the one concluding their "first set". This suggests that vol. 2 might be the recording of their second set (on that evening I assume).
  16. Thanks, will give it a try.
  17. When I use this option,I am limited to a maximum file size of 0.1MB, which is very, very low. But other members seem to be able to upload larger files. And these files do not seem to be stored on any hosting services. What am I doing wrong?
  18. Wish I could post larger files. A 100 KB limit is quite restrictive.
  19. Thanks again, the CD is indeed hard to find. Will look for it on discogs from time to time. You were lucky to find it locally.
