Am I right to assume that CD-Rs are used for the the compact disc version? Can't see the official CD logo anywhere on the product. Edit: I contacted "New Braxton House" with this question. Will report back here. There is always the (cheaper) option of just buying the files.... If the discs are indeed CD-Rs, I might do this as well.
  5. Going to watch "Chasing Trane" tonight for the first time.

  7. Just got a shipping notification for the Turrentine set!
  8. I recently bought a new and sealed CD (Woody Shaw - Blackstone Legacy) from a large eBay seller with whom I had countless earlier transactions and found the jewel case empty. Never happened before to me. I got a refund without any discussion, although I would not have blamed them for not believing my story.
  9. Here is the Australian version of this story: https://www.theguardian.com/media/2018/jan/30/abc-dismantles-sound-libraries-and-axes-staff-to-improve-budget.

  16. Having a Julius Hemphill evening tonight spinning the following two records: It would be interesting to know more about G.A. Baxter whose music classes at I.M. Terrell High School in Fort Worth were attended (as is well known) by Ornette Coleman, John Carter, Dewey Redman and Julius Hemphill, among others. I wonder to what extent Mr Baxter was responsible for the jazz interests of his students. I also would like to know more about the relationship between John Carter and Julius Hemphill. It seems Carter taught clarinet to Hemphill (who was about ten years younger) but I wonder how extensive and formal these lessons were. Were these regular and paid lessons or just some informal and irregular meetings among students with similar interests? Does anyone here know more? Anyway, here's to you Mr Baxter.
