  1. Have you seen the Don Was interview about Blue Note's own plans here? Details are not yet announced.
  2. Agreed. I also thought the singer on Motherless Child, Dwight Trible, is really good. He has a CD titled "Horace", which I will check out.
  3. I completely forgot about the CD that came with Isoardi's "The Dark Tree" until it was mentioned here yesterday. Ripped it today and listen to it for the first time in about 10 years.
  4. How is this one? Was Chet in good form? Is the sound quality good?
  5. These 1949 recordings are just amazing!
  6. This one was reissued one day before RSD by Verve. It's the mono version The sound quality is very poor. I wonder how the original sounds. Does anyone here have a mono original? Poor pressing quality as well. Paper inner sleeves scratched all vinyl surfaces. Not recommended!
  7. Which format? Vinyl? I wonder how "they" were supposed to play the disc.
  8. I have the same problem with Leigh's playing and this was confirmed again yesterday. I was expecting this but if you want to see PB down under, unfortunately you cannot afford to be selective. He is not exactly a frequent visitor to our shores. I had the impression, the two musicians did not really enjoy themselves yesterday. They played continuously for 45 minutes and then left without a word. They dropped their instruments exactly (at the very second!) at 10pm, as advertised. There must have been a clock on stage. I somehow believe that the venue (which is certainly not known for anything remotely related to jazz) was not really what they expected. Maye it did not help that they had to set up their instruments accompanied by heavy techno beats. Anyway, despite my problems with Leigh's playing (or maybe it's just the pedal steel guitar, I never heard this instrument elsewhere), there were some good moments (e.g., some references to Lonely Woman). One issue I had was the volume of the show. Either I am getting too old for this (probably), or it was just way too loud. I have visited dozens of jazz performances but never one that was so loud. The loud techno beats played before the show were dwarfed by the volume of the actual show. This was a very small venue which was fully packed with a standing audience of about 150-200 people. The reed instruments probably would have been just right without amplification. Instead, the instruments were amplified to the limits of permanent hearing damage. I used ear protection, I am fine today. Would I visit another Brotzmann/Leigh show in Melbourne? Yes, I happily accept any opportunity to experience PB live. Would I prefer to see BP with William Parker and Hamid Drake next time around? Yes, please! @romualdo is seeing the Brisbane show later this week, which takes place in a completely different venue (museum). I hope he shares some of his impressions from this show.
  9. Thanks for this. I missed this one. Will look it up.
  10. Peter Brotzmann and Heather Leigh
  11. I have about 50 PB recordings. If I only could keep one of them, it would be this one. More so than most PB recordings, this is a meeting of equally strong musicians, PB is not dominating here and maybe not as forceful as in some of his other recordings. The result is stunning. My copy is a reissue from Trost Records. Highly recommended.
  12. Agreed.
  13. Oh no, did not know this. Hope Katz's is still around. I used to go to Katz for a pastrami sandwich about twice per year when I was visiting NYC to work with a client 13-15 years ago. Every time, an elderly lady attending their customers recognized me and chatted with me. It was unbelievable given the number of customers she must have seen every day. Sorry for being off-topic.
  14. Lennie Tristano Quintet - Live at Birdland 1949 Lennie Tristano Quintet - Live in Toronto 1952 Lennie Tristano - Chicago April 1951 Lennie Tristano and Warne Marsh - Intuition
  15. Would love to be there. Enjoy!
