Late to the party on this. Someone clever made a box set of the downloadable live shows, most of which are sbds. Check Discogs which is where I got mine.

12-14 will be the next bonus disc if that's any consolation (Albuquerque will be the second release)

2 things. That boot consists of tunes from a few different tapes (I used to have a copy). They did play st Actuon House in Nov. 70--I saw those shows--and there is a fragment on archive. I was also at that Cafe Au Go Go show. (My first show was 6-9-67 at the Cafe). They were messing with the jam, but let it go. Same as the Eleven by that young me. Too complicated for the more song oriented band. https://archive.org/details/gd70-11-09.aud.hanno.7591.sbeok.shnf An addendum. The seven was likely performed more than 4 times. I heard it at least twice--I believe at the Capital in Portchester as well as Cafe AGG. Unfortunately, there were a lot of untapped shows in 1970, and there has been a fair amount of confusion. In those days, cassettes were copied and recopied ( under the influence). Because all we had access to in 1970 were audience tapes, people would make compilations of "rare" songs. They did play the old Action House in Brooklyn, but nobody taped them. In fact, those shoes were poorly advertised and about half full.

One of the reasons I stopped going to their shows in 1972 was the increasingly large crowds. The 76-77 shows were generally in smaller places, but the style wasn't the same--and I was into other music. Wouldn't want to see grandpa Bob in an arena. $100 to see musicians way past their prime. Just an opinion.

Apparently, these sell out to ebay resellers. If you want one, buy it early as the prices go up quickly.

No one else was looking! Mine was the only bid.

1st, dp 24 just announced a minute ago: Berkeley 8/25/72. A great show. Me, I'm still in Dahlonega teaching for the University. Taught a course on the Beats--including Dylan--last Fall. Had major spinal fusion in December. Keeping up with the Dead through 1972. Found a complete set of Europe 72 on EBay for just over $100. That took a while to hear in its entirety. Still can't go much beyond that. I'm glad all is well with you!

Things are going great. Still teaching college punks for food and listening to music. The GD keep releasing hit and miss shows, and I'm still keeping up with the early stuff. Trying to collect 200 versions of Me and My Uncle. Looks like you're doing well.

Hey, Jazzbo, I read that they were releasing a 12 cd set that is made up of exclusively Pig Pen numbers. Thought you should know. How's it going?

I was at both shows. mans taped both of them from the audience. Amazing evening if music. The show appears to be up on sugarmegs.org

I saw Joseph so many times with the AEC, Egwu Anwu, and others and got to know him. Of all the musicians in the Great Black Music scene, Joseph was and IS the kindest, friendliest of them all. I hope that he recovers--his health and his smile.
-
Great. Just got hired to teach at North Georgia College and State University. Now maybe I can afford Europe '72.
-
Take 3 discs and call me in the morning.
-
Yeah. Just listen to that Copenhagen Good Lovin'. The original rapmaster.

I like a few things from "Blues." But I think that the opening suite is a tad trite in comparison to earlier stuff--lyrically. Hunter started to lose his touch. That said, Crazy Fingers is a top ten song for me.

Well, we all know you love Keith! WOTF is the last great Dead l.p, imho. I rank it fourth: American Beauty (so subtle and sublime); Europe '72 (a hybrid live/sudio disc), Workingman's, and WOTF. The latter is so "pretty" with Jerry's lilting guitar work and the general laid back tone. Here Comes Sunshine is as good as it gets--as ar Row, Jimmy, Row and Stella Blue. An Weather Report Suite is Bobby's masterwork.

The bros started in 1969; mountain was released in 1967. I'm sure the bros picked t up from donovan. BTW, in that version of NFA, they copy the2-14 lick precicely, including the notes that follow it. Garcia had quite the memory then.
-
Lon: quoted as it is on Feb 14, 1968 AND during the Fillmore East run on a NFA jam--this comes well before the brothers were the brothers.

I'd buy a Europe box as well. But one problem is that two of the shows have been released and the ENglish shows have been released in parts. Would they do the hundred year hall with the missing tunes? Would Rockin' the Rhein be includd? Small details, but . . . . I wqould imagine such a set would cost around $250.

I got a super shitty hissy cassette of the Alligator part of this show back in 1972. Likely from the FM broadcast. It cut out midway through Caution at that. Over time, better versions emerged until the whole show was pretty much available in the past decade. Then Mr. Miller upgraded it to something magnificent--even patching the cut in Alligatotr from the Anthem cd. Just a few months back, at that. So, I figured how much better can this release be? I knew it was mastered from the original 8 track tapes with state of the art equipment. And it is worth every penny. The sound is unbelievable--crisp, pure, clear. And the bonus tracks--well . . . . ditto. Two Viola Lee Blues'? Can't beat it. More, please.
-
What he said.
-
Yup. That and "Holed up waiting for a windy day."
-
2-14-68 is a scortcher. While the first set is a tad tentative, by the time they get to the Alligator--Caution, they are on fire. The Alligator from drums---the final "Alligator!" cries was used on ANthem of the Sun--in trunjcated version. To hear the whole jam is a treat. ANd, even though C. Miller just did a patched upgrqade, this set is from the 8 tracks--not 2 track. Thus, the whole mix is on a par with the sonic clarity and bite of ANthem. Get it now for the bonus--any 68 Viola Lee is a must--and here you will have two of them!. BTW cHeck this out: http://gratefulbreed.blogspot.com/search/l...Grateful%20Dead This site hosts downloads of the original mix of Aoxomoxoa (so much better IMHO) and the Aoxomoxoa outtakes as well as a bunch of other fine stuff. Note: I love it when my first post appears to have failed, and I rewrite it only to have them both appear. Sorry!
