  2. MG Thanks för pointing it out! I just ordered it and it will be my first version of the work. /Shaft PS i just yesterday listened to his excellent Born to Be Blue (with Sonny C)!!
  3. Hi! Yeah I have them both versions on CD. First I got a copy of the newly mastered without applause and liked it very much. Then I stumbled over an old japanese CD that had the introductions etc. I like them both. SQ is a bit better on the new one but guess which one I play most....... I kind of like the talking by Peggy and the applauses it puts me a good mood somehow /Shaft
  4. Yes that is one great set I aquired som time ago! Much recommended. /Shaft
  5. Hi Peter, If you read this please PM me. /Shaft
  6. Hi Guys, I really really like this set Going through CD2 now and it's a gas It's pure Oscar at his best. Sound quality is very nice and solid. \Shaft
  7. Yeah, many of the GOLD CDs are out of print and fetching high prices on eBay. The remastering of those CDs were often quite good and in some instances in my opinion not yet surpassed like Miles on DCC. But there are examples when they certainly do not sound better that more recent remasters on silver discs. But remember Gold is always Gold - something magic about it. As for the gold itself lasting longer I'm not sure. It sure is very thin on the CDs which are almost transparent. Sound Quality is not gaining a lot in my opinion if all.... /Shaft

  9. Thanks Jazzbo! That's reassuring to hear. That London house sessions are a killer in my book. Listening to that great song "On Green Dolphin Street " makes me sit in awe..... /Shaft
  10. Hi again, Just put in an order for the Peterson Mosaic. Looking forward to this one very much. Have a lot of his stuff already but you know how it is ;-) Listening to the complete London house just made me clicka that order button /Shaft
  11. Ok, thanks guys. I kind of like the idea of keepin the product "intact" ie not cutting away paper insert. Then you can "restore" the whole CD in the future should you wish to do so. But how about digipacks???? /Shaft
  12. I have the best of and I was pleasantly surprised by the quality and groove of the music and the sound is great too;-) /Shaft
  13. Hi, I sometimes buy from Lonehill and FreshSound. I have some Proper but I find the SQ lacking. Are the Lonehills/FreshSounds needle drops (sourced from LPs) or do they ever use Master Tapes? Also is there any example where they steal someone elses mastering??? I don't like that in that case. They do sound very fine.An example would be: http://www.amazon.com/Birdland-Dream-Band-...ref=pd_sim_m_48 /Shaft
  14. Hi guys, A Q for you converted people.... Do you keep the back paper insert intact and complete when you ditch the jewel case???? I've met some guys that just rip the sides off to get it into the soft plastic. /Shaft
  15. I'm with Greg Mo here! I really wish the original cover art would also be included (as in the Mosaic Selects). But of course I still love the music just as much without covers. A lot of those old covers were really really nice to look at (and read). /Shaft
  16. Also about the Crusaders please don't forget to pick up the 3 Crusaders titles on Motown. They are great but not easy to find. Sorry for the OT on Mosaic. /Shaft
  17. I'll second everything about the Crusaders set! It's great!! /Shaft
  18. Hi Actually I'm not to keen on The Muir Woods CD. I play it very seldom. For me it's not really GD but more like an experiment.... /Shaft Could you give us a little more detail? Does George improvise on Muir Woods? Are the strings used in an ambitious way, or more just for background color? What is is about Muir Woods that does not work in your view? Hi again, Strings are used very ambitious way. It is in parts almost "classical" music - kind of "Arty". Some parts are more piano-driven and more jazzy, but I like GD when it swings and make me wanna move, tap my foot etc. When I want to hear classical I put on Beethoven. Here is a link to Amazon. It can be optained for under $3 so if interested please don't hesitate. Muir Woods on Amazon /Shaft
  19. Hey ChaunceyMorehouse, I must admit I didn't get your post in its enterity However it was sure fun to read. Some personal remarks though. Joe Zawinul was best with Cannonball and Wather Report. The whole World Music thing was not so fun. At least not what I have heard. Herbie Hancock is quite boring these days. Mr Hands is the last great album he did (With possible exception of Dis is da drum) George Duke still has the chops! Some sections on GDs later albums are great great. He's back after the 80s much too commercial albums. Still plays great! /Shaft
  20. Hi Actually I'm not to keen on The Muir Woods CD. I play it very seldom. For me it's not really GD but more like an experiment.... /Shaft
  21. Yeah I got the MPS box and everything else GD put out in his own name! Third World has not escaped me but I find it quite inferior to GDs own stuff. George Duke is my hero! I heard him live in Stockholm and got the privilege to shake his hand and talk to him a bit after the concert. He was a really really nice guy too;-) I don't think many would be disappointed with the box if you like "real" fusion. "The Inner Source" album and "Solus" are a bit weaker, but please start off with "Faces in Reflection" and "Feel" and you will be caught M;-) /Shaft
  22. My favourite Milt has always been the excellent "Soul Fusion" (PABLO) with Monty Alexander, Jeff Hamilton and John Clayton. http://www.amazon.com/Soul-Fusion-Jackson-...1857&sr=8-6 It stands up to any Milt you will ever hear and the band swings like crazy! /Shaft
  23. Hi David, I saw some really interesting CD on your list which I'm trying to PM you about. Johnny Lytle "Fast Hands Happy Ground" Red Garland "I Left My Heart...." Houston Person "A Little Houston on the Side" Nat Adderley "Talkin' About You" Charles Earland "Organomically Correct" Christmas with Houston Person and Etta Jones The Modern Jazz Quartet "The Quartet" Erroll Garner "Penthouse Serenade" Curtis Fuller "Bluesette" Best Regards Shaft
  24. Hi, PM sent on the Blue Mitchell '63-'67 (4 CDs) 110. /Shaft
  25. Hi Guys, I really hate to give bad rep to Mosaic because I think they are generally making such great work. I have about 10 great sets and enjoy the hell out of them. BUT when it comes to Quincy Jones set I think that they narrowed it down way too much to what Mosaic thinks are the "pure" big band in the late fifties and early sixties. Most of that material is available on CD already from Japan. However why not make a complete Mercury set adding, Hip Hits, Around The World (never issued on CD), Plays the music of Henry Mancini (never issued on CD) etc. I was really hoping for that when I heard about the set. I mean just to imply that Hip Hits is "commercial" and not up to Q's big band jazz high quality style is very ignorant ideed. It is a great swingin' album with a great lineup There are fine solos by Joe Newman, Jim Hall, Zoot Sims ,Phil Woods and also Rahsaan Roland Kirk. Ok, the songs are not long and adventurous, but the swing and move like crazy. a shame that more people don't get to hear this. /Shaft
