  1. Well, Creed Taylors name just keep popping up again and again. He must be a cat that has thousands of stories to tell. I've read some interviews by him and he seems willing to talk and share his memories of players and sessions. I'm these days (18 CD's) playing through the Bill Evans complete on Verve (highly recommended!) and the question cama up for me: Has he written (or ghost written) a book? /Shaft
  2. Hi all Great set! And I was soooo lucky when I bought this for $80 in Sweden at Tradera.se (like swedish eBay) /Shaft
  3. Hello, I have the big box set and it's really great - both the sound and the music. Very nice remastering on this on! /Anders PS And the book that came along is very beautiful with great pictures etc.
  4. Hello, I scored a couple of audiophile versions a couple of weeks ago: Bill Evans "Portrait of Jazz" DCC (GOLD CD) Bill Evans "Interplay" DCC (GOLD CD) John Coltrane "Blue Train" MFSL (GOLD CD) Miles Davis "Kind of Blue" (Longbox Gold CD) Bill Evans "Sunday Night at Village Vanguard" (XRCD) Bill Evans "Everybody Digs Bill Evans" (XRCD) All for $80 Pretty good score me thinks. /Shaft
  5. Hi! I would buy any box with Hank /Shaft
  6. Hi! I've PMd you about the set. /Shaft
  7. Hi all! Well, Barbara has been on my favlist for quite some time - since 1992. She's got it as far as I'm concerned! I especially like the Hot Stuff och Take off albums. I've never felt any lack of "grease" but if it's just grease you want maybe you should look elsewhere. The MIDI bass is however really making the recorded sound full and interesting. Some B3 recording with just organ bass can sound a bit thin but not here and she plays the bass very very well ;-) /Shaft
  8. Thanks for the thumbs up Mr Nessa! ;-) Ken, I guess you are right. /Shaft BTW - I just love those booklets from mosaic - a jazz lovers dream. I was just sitting last night and looking at all them pictures and reading about Ike's career at Blue Note and his struggle with cancer. It really adds a new dimension to the music.
  9. Ha ha Getting "Shafted" is not so good in my book Are you the bebop guy hanging around the swedish Euphonia Forum? I've listened more tonight and YES I really like them. They are very different of course. Kenton is very listenable - kind of "swings with a twist" (remember it's 1943). Good sound too. The Quebec is way cool. Ike is soooo relaxed and swingin. Good backup from not so well known names. /Shaft
  10. Thanks King Ubu - I feel better already even if my wallet is kind of hurt /Shaft
  11. Hi! Just got home yesterday from the local vendor in Stockholm with two used Mosaic boxes under my arms. The Ike Quebec 45 sessions (2CD) and the Kenton Complete Capitol 43-47. I paid about $100 for the two boxes. Was it an OK buy moneywise or did I pay too much? /Shaft The music is great BTW!
  12. I think I got it in that realm on eBay. /Shaft PS I would not be surprised if it surfaced on Verve Originals any year now;-)
  13. Hi I have the CD, but worked hard to aquire it so I'm holding on to it -_- . There is a copy on amazon for $50 but I guess you have ruled that one out. /Shaft Great music by the way!!
  14. Hi! I like the BN Works series myself. They are "straight" transfers with no compression added or narrowing of the soundfield as early RVG editions have. The McMaster are (early US Blue Notes) are often sounding thin in the bass whereas the BN Works get the balance right most of the time. The hardest BN Works (4000-series) I've looked for years for is the Hank Mobley "Soul station". I finally got it from eBay for $30 ;-) /Shaft
  15. I've listened to this CD a couple of times and it's.....a winner! /Shaft
  16. Yeah Ordered it today! Keep your fingers crossed it will not get stuck in customs greedy fingers. Shaft
  17. Hi, Sorry guys but Coltrane and Monk are not on the top of my list.........yet Maybe some day I'll go "OH" and "AH"!? But for some years I've bought their albums but play them rarely. Joe Henderson should perhaps be in the List and Sonny Rollins too. I just want to like them all but not so far..... /Shaft
  18. Hi again, My mistake you guys are right. Just omit the number one then. I was thinking about the work Steve Hoffman did on Vinyl for musicmatters.com - it is really good sounding. /Shaft
  19. I just ordered it! Looks great. I have a lot of Mr T so it's gonna be swell listening I hope. /Shaft
  20. I just love the Edelhegen! I've played it many times. I bought it on the account of Quincy tributing. Sure it is a bit commercial but the players in the band really get into it! The cover is hideous though.... /Shaft
  21. Hi On a general level för Blue Notes I would normally rate the following editions (not just "Something else") 1. DCC jazz by Steve Hoffman - Simply stunning! It's all there Resolution, warmth, bass etc. Not very common on BN I think just Vinyl ;-) 2. TOCJ the old jewel 4000 series - Straight transfers. Godd bass, wide spread and not too much treble 3. MFSL - They are sounding a bit old (not so revealing) sometimes but always nice. 4. Newer RVG's - Generally not so bad. A tad bright though. 5. Ron Mcmasters (never sounded special and shy of bass) 6. Old RVG's and JRVG's Compressed and narrow stereo spread, LOTS of treble. Tiring sound. There are of course exceptions Shaft
  22. Nat Cole is always timeless..... /Shaft
  23. Hi! I'm interested in the CD Cole, Nat King - "Coast to Coast Live" . Can you paypal and ship overseas? /Shaft
  24. Hi! TOUGH Question! Hank Mobley Morgan Shorter Jazz Crusaders and..... I love the Woody Herman select! /Shaft
  25. I like it! /Shaft
