  1. THE MAESTRO MARSHALL ALLEN, WARMING UP. LEADER OF THE SUN RA ARKESTRA. Sun Ra Arkestra 2019: many classic members. But this morning, this special, special morning- our show gets AN ORIGINAL MEMBER i have seen him in a horn section supoorting MMW i have seen him with his own quartet, i have seen him with Benny Maupin, but not tonight, not on this special night, tonight I get to see what hes really all about, in his original element, and there i was experiencing it. It was happening right before my eyes. angels and freaking demons at play. Remember how i exictied i was when at the joe walsh concert and ringo came out, well this was like that x50billion. they really did the dual flute part, i couldn't believe what was happening
  2. u got it my guy- im so glad to witness that sun ras music is alive and well, they really did it im already convinced this is going in the #1 spot of chewys top 10 concerts 2019 list....
  3. Do you understand this at our show and only our show we had not one but 2 members from the Sun Ra Chicago era: Marshall Allen + very special guest Julian Priester. And believe me when I tell you our show setlist this morning leaned very heavily toward the chicago era, they did stranger in paradise, and ra's arrangement of prelude to a kiss. Also believe me when I tell you the lead singers voice had the some tone as the original lead singer, like on dreams come true- they could of done dreams come true and it would of sounded like the record, would of been rad, but we got a lot of good songs, we got "love in outer space" and ANGELS AND FREAKING DEMONS AT PLAY--- with the dual-flutes. OH-MY-GOD. it really brought me back i tell you what- it was classic chicago sun ra, and im bellypressed against the front of the stage center and julian priesters over there in full space outfit and marshall allen ripping a solo and there shouting angels and demons at play! you guys must know ive seen a lot of concerts, but this was the greatest jazz show ive ever seen maybe, it really was them.
  4. i freaking met Marshall Allen Danny Ray Thompson and Michael Ray at 1:30am this morning
  5. It was the greatest jazz concert ive seen, since Lionel Hampton orchestra 2001.
  6. oh not much for me friday nite only seeing Sun Ra Arkestra in what is i believe is their 1st area apperence since 1991. Dreams come true allright, THIS IS SUPPOSED TO BE AN IMPORTANT DAY FOR ME TOMORROW
  7. Hi everyobdy I have some basic Bird Mosaic FAQ's that i would like cleared up if youd be so kind- so the 1st issue of the Benneditti material was the debut lp; Bird on 52nd st? Followed by the takes of Dee Dees Dance on the spotlite lp, followed by the mosaic.....then theres that one acetate on birds eyes not on the mosaic (very very poor sound, even for me), and then theres even some birds eyes material that IS on the mosaic, but is an alternate transfer. My question is, is there anymore I'm forgetting or is there known but not-released bennedditi material. All the mosaic tracks are at the correct speed right, on birds eyes, you NEED them as files to digitally lower the speed. theres this one datrfe from 1947 thats a live club show and you have to lower it -10% and when you do it sounds perfect on one of these main things (liner notes, maybe the bird discog site, i dont recall--) it said all the material could not be issued by mosaic dude to financial restrictions.....that seems odd, like something extra special benedditis brother was holding out on, is what it inferred, i think
  8. I want to go with Keith Richards (who lives around there)
  9. oh god, bird up, i keep seeing this- do i dare click on it? lol---- this isnt as crafty as us3
  10. it kind of was like sampling, but instead of bird being all what kind of beat can i lift, he was all what changes should the song be put on- it really is all connected!
  11. is this the closest ellington band ever got to fusion? im suprised by this
  12. You so know it! what we have here is the Canada Tv b'cast + canadian restaurant tape (partial)-, that where recently issued in full on Uptown CD for the first time. + the 1953 bandbox stuff with diz, + bird and candido birdland 53 + "your fathers mustache" chubby jackson. + one of five versions of 'easy to love' from set 1,2,3,4,or 5, to be determined, apollo theatre w/ strings '50!!
  13. In a sentance: Lee Konitz and Warne Marsh played many contrafats of jazz standards. its a word to describe when you write a different melody over another songs changes. So my question is: i always thought you called that, "when lennie wrote a new head ontop of this or that standards changes", never heard this word before- "contrafact" is that what theyre teaching with those fancy jazz schools. It sounds completely made up. When someone was wasting time inventing that word, (do we know who invented it, not wynton right lol jk) they should of been diggin around the library of congress or somethin instead and make themselves useful
  14. god all the lps i didnt buy all year i got all today, filling out the bird collection, now i have almost everything thats in the "bird box" in its original form- i THINK i have em all now after these-
  15. 78s have all but vanished. there used to be opportunities. many opportunites. those have been exitinguished for a long time. now, its just whenever someone happens to sell some to the local store. ive been to stores in the past w/ tons, but they are all gone!
  16. you bring up good points, well dog better late to the party than never, - im just happy this old bro who brought them in kept them so well each was in its own 12" paper 78 sleve, it was a giant pile, maybe 2 ft tall but i got everything i pretty much needed. 12" break easily. and you know im also stoked about my 1st 12" victor scroll i saw one a few mos ago at goodwill, but it was "sweedish dance orchestra" and i thought ughhh. but paul whiteman-- hoffman has used him as an example before for ultra HQ 78 rpm sound, and you know who else? Ted Weems. Ted Weems was expertly recorded early on. Plus its not horrible music, its not jazz, but its also not dated sounding like rudy vallee. You know on fantasy, dancin' with anson, thats kind of like it too but later. did you hear the 20 second chuck wayne guitar solo i posted above? my 78 doenst sound as hot as the youtube vid, i was hoping the guitar on the 78 was as loud as the video
  17. these are a time when u need formats dont you- vinyl to hear the bass analog, but then cd to have no noise floor and distortion
  18. I thought it was the same person as Benny Berrigan at first. I am way behind on this stuff. Is this called "small group swing"? is that the name of the genre? Yesterdays windfall was quite good.
  19. i went back and got one more today- who is barney bigard? i thought he was dixie but this is clearly fast swing, maybe early bop?, really good Chuck Wayne guitar solo
