  1. Herb Alpert should freaking match the gofundme
  2. ---he rediscovered Alberta Hunter -he taught us about some of the unsavory interactions he had with Columbia records/John Hammond
  3. R.I.P. our fellow board member I admired chris albertson for how he did things from recording pioneers of blues & jazz in the Chicago "the living legends" series, to conducting interviews with friends and associates of besie smith, and even, i cant recall right now specfically, but he also had a foot somehow in rock and roll, and was around for some big moments of that genre as well
  4. never heard of this before, nor have i seen pictures of this museum. Are you a historian for a non music related subject for them. the history of this bldg is crazy
  5. is Zev Feldman the new Michael Cuscana. I liked the old one just fine but I'll work it what there is to work with. Hes not related to Victor, right. Yea tell him to release stuff!
  6. oh and was Vincent Chancey there (french horn)- he was really great too. Yea Knoel Scott was really good--- Dawg yea that was a really interesting part of the sun ra live experience for me, there was like some of the guys like Knoel Scott were members from the 80s that I did not know or ever heard of n stuff. He did the lead vocal on "Rocket Number Nine take off, take off, take off, for the planet, for the planet, Venus" - he was great! its my #1 show of the year I know already
  7. Arlo Guthrie- my 1st time- very very engaging show-
  8. proud of you my guy, yea that singer i saw her on recent video clips but she was not at my show in january, we instead had a male singer, who was very much sounded in the vein of Clyde Williams, and was a fantastic part of the band. you also mention piano/keyboard. my show in january had no piano or keyboards. You didn't mention Danny Ray Thompson but i suppose he was there. at my show we also got Michael Ray and extreme special guest Julian Priester
  9. so this will be the outdoor summer festival herbie experience. this is gonna be different than those overseas jvc jazz festivals in the 80s though, but the venue its at by me is pretty chill, i should really end up going
  10. spinning this out the window because i just upgraded to an early fantasy cd (pre ojc)-i got a made in japan with crude matrix but i see theres also a pre-ojc us issue too you cuold find in the bins-- essential upgrade for fans of this
  11. you know it is a pretty insnane topic, I admit i dont undertstand most of it, these guys were never really on my radar. i did see branford quartet once a long time ago. i dinstincly recall him talking to a group of students before the show and he was saying how learning jazz cant be a learn-how-to-solo-in-30-days type thing. it seemed sensible. show didint wow me.
  12. i have a promo copy of talking heads '77
  13. i guess the vinyl quality wowed me it looked so shiny- like those 80s green label beach boys lps-- way better than the original 60s ones
  14. how much you wanna bet my copy of brassamba is the audiophile version compared to the original pressing- i bet mine sounds way better if i had both to compare
  15. yeah- I like smooth jazz-- im just never got into kenny directly but i was never a fan of sidestepping avant-garde post bop jazz!
