Lower left, thats mine there: Victor 1931 season announced Oct. 1930 model R-39. This and similar models were already on the schedule for Victor when RCA inked the deal--rca would release the TRF sets under the victor name and the superhets under the rca radiola name from then on. the series started in 1929. it was called micro-syncronous tuning. I jammed some Duke Ellington from the archive on it, like period ellington, period fletcher henderson, even anson weeks and ted weems n stuff- the SQ (AND TUNING) is way better than i ever expected when i dove into this- and it will be even better next week when my new tube comes. The fidelity is stunning. I wish i had a bigger room area to put it in to really get a grasp, instead of just being blasted with it, but that works too. Oh I also tried a little period Blind Lemmon Jefferson...........WHOA. It was authentic as you can get- it beat having the 78 i swear- it sounded out of this world. want to see the dial? these were the first dials where all channels are shows simultaneously - they plugged that hard in a lot of the ads- the dawg who i got it from was all the dial is dim. yeah in the outside daylight where he was testing it sure, at home it beams. if you live in a state that state has at least at this present time a few hundred old radios being given and practically given away- it is an amazing time to locate radios. ive seen some crazy old ones that are so nutz they must go to 1920s radio big dawgs. mine is like a cd player compared to some of the others ive seen around. Like an original style 3 tuning knobs-TRF where you need three hands and you tune all 3 knobs manually.....

So far, the big dawgs for 78s, is archive.org. But besides archive.org, what are some other streaming sites be it live radio or files/songs you pick (perfered)- whatever-- here are my favorites for 20s-30 jazz: archive.org Arctic Output AM from (apparently!??!).....Svalbard

guys, if i want Ellington brunswick (30s?) what earlier issue lp (this is apparently 1990!) should i get for Ellington Brunswick material...or should i go ahead and buy this lp- k thanks

i got a 1930 victor r-39, it has boosted my love of pre-bird jazz 900%- let me tell you, i was very, very mistaken, very mistaken, in expectation of sound quality, it far exceeds what I thought was possible in SQ. those, are they 30s, theyre 30s right? ellington brunswicks-- they just blast through this thing- sounds absolutely incredible. i put anson weeks through it, the i phone has every 78 he ever made on it at the flick of a scroll. The I phone and the victor r-39 pair together nicely via am transmitter.. the thing sounds incredible. I recommend it as an accessory for any fan of pre bird jazz. Theyre just giving them away all over the country. Anyone who wants one get get one basically at this point. You just need to fish for the right one for you. This was from right when RCA merged with Victor. They kept the Victor name for the TRF sets and the used the rca radiola name for the superhets. I have one tube out but because its push-pull amp they tell me it still works but all i do is buy the expensive tube, gently lift the old one out and gently put the new one in. i dont think im gonna hurt anything in that. But the 20s radio big dawg said fidelity will be improved with the other tube firing. i can hardly imagine what duke will sound like then- it was aboustely incredible. almost, or even, better than having the original 78. recommendations welcomed for period jazz and general music and resources besides archive.org and youtube etc....... i wish i could get all the ellington brunswicks in a row on the phone somehwere- is that stuff even available? look at the dial: 1

I have the Stereo-pact! issue but i swear it plays mono. Its engraved 'stereo' on the lp its not a mix-up, but i cant see how it can get 'more mono' this how it is already. does anyone have both to compare. i think theres a chance the other one, bird is free, is rechanneled, its actually subtle, but i do hear it upon separation of channels so i ordered a mono-pact just to make sure. but do i need to do that also for happy bird, i really dont think so, unless you can convince me....
