  1. Finally ordered mine today. Don't wait too long - only 10 copies left now, people!
  2. I own zero Jamal so far and I don't think I've even heard a single note, but for some reason this big Mosaic set is very tempting...
  3. It's good. And as a bonus it has a 4-tune Bo Zieff arranged session with pretty special line-up (t, frh, bcl, bsn, cello, b). But is the Zieff material alone reason enough to get it? I already have the Sextet material on the expanded Chet Baker Big Band CD.
  4. Hi there, some of you may already have heard of my project called Relocator - those can skip right on to the next paragraph! For everyone else here's a short introduction: We're a bunch of guys from Germany (with a drummer from the Netherlands) who play instrumental prog/fusion and we have Derek Sherinian (ex-Dream Theater, Planet X) featured as a guest star, playing keys throughout the album. You can find a MySpace link in my signature - we have the full album streaming on our page! Now that some web-related things have been straightened out, we would like to expand the promo work for the album considerably - for example, we have contacted only a handful print magazines so far. One problem here is the simple fact that we aren't familiar with most foreign magazines (only the German ones, really) - so here's where you come in! * If you know a magazine in your country (online or print) that regularly reviews prog albums, let us know! We're really looking for magazines from all over the world. Web or postal addresses and such would be very helpful. * If you're an author for a music magazine or review site yourself, even better! Get in touch with us! * Same goes for those who have a (web) radio show that features prog. We want our music to be heard! * And if you have other ideas how we could get the word out, speak up! Our album is a 100% independent release and I'm pretty much on my own on the PR front, so any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Michael / Relocator
  5. Yep. More of the typical record company bullshit - "Here's some new stuff! You can have it if you also re-buy that music you bought five years ago!"
  6. Good to see they finally reissued this one, I've been waiting for it: Marion Brown - Why Not? http://espdisk.com/official/catalog/1040.html
  7. I've been listening to some LP rips of the not-yet-on-CD albums and had another idea - how about a "Brubeck & Guests" Mosaic Select? The Riddle Witches Brew + whatever else is left of the Bill Smith sessions Compadres Blues Roots The latter two add up to about 100 minutes alone and there's at least one more track with Mulligan (Theme for Jobim) they could add (it was on the the Summit Sessions LP originally). If the Witches Brew material is about one LP's worth by itself, that makes over three hours of music - I'd buy it!
  8. They don't seem to care much about these things. They've even put out albums that were released in Europe if there was no US release before. From what has been said, Brubeck himself will not allow Jackpot and the Paris album to be reissued. The others would be interesting, but would not make for a very coherent set.
  9. I don't think there's any material left that would make for a sensible big box set, but I would like such a Mosaic Select: Bossa Nova USA My Favorite Things Angel Eyes In Amsterdam Anything Goes Bossa Nova USA contains tracks from 1962, including some from sessions that were also released as part of My Favorite Things - which also featured some tracks from 1965. Plus there's a take of Santa Claus Is Comin' To Town that was recorded at one of those 1962 sessions for some Christmas compilation. Angel Eyes is another album culled from 1962 and 1965 sessions. The live stuff from In Amsterdam is from the same era as those '62 sessions and yet unissued on CD (except for excerpts on The Great Concerts). Anything Goes then contains the remaining '60s DBQ sessions that haven't made it to CD yet (outside of Japan) but are not explicitely damned to remain un-reissued by Dave Brubeck himself (unlike Jackpot and The Last Time We Saw Paris). All of this is prime DBQ material featuring the classic lineup, it's almost entirely unreleased on CD outside of Japan (not by any pirate labels, either) and it would probably fit very nicely on three Mosaic Select discs. EDIT: Just sent this to Mosaic Records as a product suggestion.
  10. I realized I was confused about the Newport album, or rather albumS. I've seen both the Newport 1958 and At Newport (the 1956 performance that was bundled with the Jay and Kai set) listed as official CD releases in a Brubeck discography (from the YahooGroups list), but they don't seem to be listed on the amazon site. Can someone here confirm that these two exist as official domestic Columbia CDs? I know both have been released in Japan for sure. Are these legal releases? They don't look sanctioned by Columbia/Legacy They obviously aren't and they (e.g., Red Hot and Cool) don't contain any of the more recent CD bonus tracks, either. Maybe they're taken from some earlier Japanese issues, maybe they (or at least parts of them) were just needle drops - anyone wanna find out?
  11. Let me bump this thread as I'm trying to complete my 50s/60s Brubeck collection and finding more and more albums that Sony still hasn't bothered to release on CD outside of Japan (or at all). Here's my current list: Officially released in Japan only: Bossa Nova USA Angel Eyes My Favorite Things Anything Goes Southern Scene Jazz Impressions of the USA At Newport (with Jay and Kai) Newport 1958 Jazz Goes to Junior College In Europe So far only released on CD by pirate labels (needle drops I guess): At Storyville 1954 At Wilshire Ebell Not on CD at all anywhere: The Riddle In Amsterdam Tonight Only! with Carmen McRae The Last Time We Saw Paris Jackpot: Live in Las Vegas Blues Roots Compadres Quite annoying to see so many albums out in Japan only while we get new reissues of "Jazz Goes to College" or, even worse, the useless "The Great Concerts" compilation (half of which is already on the Carnegie Hall CDs, the rest of which would be better reissued as parts of In Europe and In Amsterdam). And I should note that just buying the Japanese import isn't always an option, as some of those are quite impossible to get these days. The usual suspects from Spain and Andorra have recently put out CD editions of quite a few of the Japan only releases and seeing how little the Sony guys seem to care about making that material available I'm really tempted in some cases. Obviously I don't like to be in that situation.
  12. hidden at the bottom of a trumpet case, I guess Grow up! We must be happy with the crumbs that fall from the Sony table, because that's the adult way to deal with life! Also, this download isn't available in Europe simply because Sony aren't in this business to lose money! They know what's right for us (and them)!

Here's an alternative suggestion: Why don't you just take your trolling act somewhere else?

That is just plain nonsense. We're making it quite clear that there is interest in the bonus material, just not when we're forced to play an additional $100 for stuff that we already have or just don't want. Why exactly you fail to see that part of the equation I don't quite get, but then your comments here haven't been "constructive" in any way to start with (if there's one thing that never helps on a forum, it's people bitching about too much bitching). And Sony people scanning the web for reactions to their recent press release are quite likely to read this thread.

Right, I misread it (or maybe they changed the exact wording since?), it says that there is a third CD, not a third disc (so the DVD is also included). Still pretty annoying - I'd like to buy that live DVD and the new live CD, but I'd have to pay for yet another edition of BB on CD and an LP edition of the album just to get those bonus discs. I doubt I'll do that. EDIT: Just saw that the pre-order price on amazon.com is $124.98 - looks like a nice set for people with too much money, but I'm not one of those.

And once again the fans get screwed by the major labels and asked to buy something they already own just to get their hands on something they've been waiting for a long time. And did I see that right, there are even TWO different BB editions with individual bonus material, meaning that you'd even have to re-buy BB *twice*? Fuck that!
  17. Got my CD/DVD set today.
  18. Please let me tell you about a new charity project by the progressive rock community: The Haiti Projekt brought together 40 bands or solo artists, among them such big names as Neal Morse, Roine Stolt (with his new band Agents of Mercy), Andy Tillison (from The Tangent), Dave Meros (from Spock's Beard) and IZZ. Many have contributed brand new compositions or unique, previously unreleased versions of their songs. For just $20 you can download over four hours of prog music in CD quality or as high-quality mp3s! All of the proceeds from this compilation will be donated to the Red Cross and its Haiti aid efforts. We have already raised over $1500, but I'm sure that is just the beginning! http://www.thehaitiprojekt.com Honestly: I bought the whole package myself and have already bought half a dozen of albums by bands that I didn't really know before who have contributed a song. It's a really nice compilation and it's for a good cause, so you really can't go wrong with this!
  19. That's because it's now here! Just listening to the organ sessions disc. Interesting stuff...
  20. Another for The King and I from me - excellent album!
  21. It's been almost three years since I first wanted to order this set, but for some reason I kept delaying my order. Finally pulled the trigger today, yay!
  22. Very cool! Really looking forward to the DVD!
  23. Hey everyone, our album is now also available from the iTunes Store. Please note however that we make more from direct sales via our website http://www.relocator-project.com where we also offer a FLAC version at no extra cost.
  24. Btw, Jim - the audio sample player on your website is "expired" and won't play anything.
